So I have been getting The YA Chronicles since February last year, I did miss 2 throughout that time though. I will still show and talk about those months boxes even though I didn’t get them. I also thought I would point out that they have put their post up from $29.99 to $39.99 as of 1st April due to shipping cost increase but they also claim to be adding more items to the boxes from now on, so we will see. So for Australians it will now be a total cost of $49.98 with shipping. If the new products are added and continue the same quality then I will continue subscribing, but if not then I may unsubscribe.
What we got in each box since last Feb and my opinion of each one
As I only started doing unboxing since September so I will be using photos that are taken off The Ya Chronicles website which I believe they got from other people’s Instagrams. I will credit the photographer under the photo and link to their Instagram if it is still active.
If I find links to any of the items I will link them!
February 2016 – Volume 6: Rebel with a Cause
- Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton
- Literary Tea Co. Lunar Chronicles inspired tea
- The Sticker Alley “Throne of Glass” stickers
- From The Page “Dauntless Cake” lip balm
- Behind the Pages “The Hunger Games” poster
- Rebel of the Sands bookmark & pin
I’m a fantasy reader, so this box was really interesting to me. Rebel of the Sands turned out to be one of my newer favourite series as well, so that is great! And HERE is my review for it. The Dauntless lip balm & Hunger Games poster were really fun items as I’m a Divergent & Hunger Games fan! I don’t drink tea, so I gave that one to my Mum, but that’s personal preference. And lastly the Throne of Glass stickers, this is a well known series and would be a good item for many people! I still haven’t read this series, so I didn’t know who those characters specifically were, but I thought they were cute and had them on my iPad for a while.
March 2016 – Volume 7: Australia Made (Missed)
- Signed copy of Sidekicks by Will Kostakis
- A ‘The Sidekicks’ bookmark
- June Design Co. Tote Bag
- Lillytales wooden bookmark
- Double sided poster
I missed this one which didn’t bother me too much because it is a contemporary and I’m not a huge contemporary reader. As for the other items, the tote bag would have been cool but I don’t really use them that often. I would have liked the wooden bookmark though as I think they are really unique but I still don’t own one.
April 2016 – Volume 8: Journal Junkie
- This is Where the World Ends by amy Zhang
- MiGoals “Get Shit Done” notebook
- Book ends tape
- The Sticker Alley “Currently Reading” sticker set
Okay, so this book was one that I didn’t personally enjoy when I read it. HERE is my review. But everything else in the box was really good. I still occasionally use those stickers in my diary, when I decide to remember it, as I have a few left still. I also still use that notebook for my shopping lists when I use a written list. I have lost the tape now, but the it was really cool.
May 2016 – Volume 9: Summer Daze, Drifting Away
- The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
- Nook Burrow “Fairy Bread” Candle
- The Woods Avenue Sun or ice cream magnetic bookmark
- All Body Soaps bath bomb in “Green Tea”
This was another book I enjoyed reading, it was one of the first contemporaries I really enjoyed and I would more than likely not have picked it up if I hadn’t received it in this box. You can find my review HERE. I loved the fairy bread candle. I still haven’t burnt it though because it’s too pretty. There was two options of magnetic bookmarks to receive and I got the sun one and I honestly have no idea where it went, as I never used to have any way to display or store them so it probably just went in my room somewhere, but it’s really cute! Lastly the bath bomb came pretty smashed up as Australia Post aren’t exactly the most carefully with packages, but oh well. It is still sitting in a The YA Chronicles box in my front room as I don’t have a bath to use it in and neither does any of my friends! Still a cool item for those who could use it haha.
June 2016 – Volume 10: Pride Week
- You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour & David Leviathan
- June Bug Printables Gay Pride Print
- Tote Bag
- “Read Diverse Books” wrist band
- Shadowhunters necklace
Loved loved loved this box! This book was really good and another enjoyable contemporary. HERE is my review! I still wear the wristband, I have it on right now. I have that rainbow poster up on my wall in my room. I also still have the Shadowhunters necklace with all my other jewelry and I did wear it for a while. I really should put it on display with the first 3 The Mortal Instrument books that I own. And the tote bag, as I said before I don’t really use bags that much, so it is up in my cupboard.
July 2016 – Volume 11: Ladies Who Slay (Missed)
- And I Darken by Kiersten White
- The Crowns Game bookmark
- Belle Regalia Throne of Glass keyring
- Juicy Ginger Sailor Moon Compact mirror
- Hermione’s Wand necklace
- Welcome To The Hub Tris inspired temporary tattoo
It really sucks that I missed this box! The book is something I’m still interested in reading I just don’t have a copy on. The thing I wish I got the most was the Hermione’s wand necklace!! Tris’s bird temporary tattoo would have been cool too. I haven’t read The Crowns Game so it didn’t bother me that I didn’t get the bookmark and I don’t watch Sailor Moon, so that didn’t annoy me either. But hermione’s wand!!!
August 2016 – Volume 12: Professional Book Lovers
- Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
- Behind the Pages “Bibliophile” soap
- Mini Book Light
- Library Card Scarf
I still haven’t read this book, but I do really want to! It sounds so interesting! I haven’t actually used that light as where I read it doesn’t need extra light. The scarf is absolutely awesome and such a cool idea! The soap smelt really good, I haven’t used it as a lot of soaps effect my skin, so I didn’t want to risk it and also it’s just prettier to look at than use haha.
September 2016 – Volume 13: You Win or You Die
Photo’s from now on are all mine!
- Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
- Jon Snow Keyring Funko Pop
- The Book Hangover “Queens of YA” Candles
- Crown Ring
- Colorfulprint “Dementor & Stag” Poster
- Idashop Boutique Game of Thrones Quote Poster
This was probably my least favourite box for the items. The candles were kinda boring and they didn’t smell that great to my preference. The characters that the candles were themed with weren’t one I really knew at the time. I have now read Snow Like Ashes, so I know who Meira is now, but I haven’t read Throne of Glass, The Lunar Chronicles or The Wrath and the Dawn so I don’t know who those are. The prints were okay, I hated GoT, so that one was meh to me, the Harry Potter one was really nice though! And the ring was just small cheap and I probably would have snapped it if I had tried to make it big enough to fit my fingers, so it wasn’t a great month for the bookish items in my opinion. The book is one I haven’t read yet but I really want to get to soon!
Gemina Box
- Signed copy of Gemini by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
- Letter from the authors
- Illuminae Bookmark
- Author Poster
- Evie Seo Gemina Tote Bag
- Heimdall Ship Schematic Print
- Illuminae Microfibre Pouch (not pictured)
This wasn’t one of the monthly boxes, this was an extra thing. Just like the A Court of Wing & Ruin box they had for sale a little while ago and the Pride Box they have for sale now. I loved Illuminae so I had to get this box! Gemina was so damn good! HERE is my spoiler free review. And a signed copy! I really liked the print of the Heimdall and the Illuminae bookmark!
October 2016 – Volume 14: Against All Odds
- Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven
- Camp Half Blood Necklace
- Behind The Pages “Manon” lip balm
- Six of Crows temporary tattoo
This was another eh box for me. I’m not going to go into detail about everything, but I don’t really read contemporary, I haven’t read Percy Jackson or Six of Crows and I don’t know who Manon is. For people who have read the corresponding books it would be a good box though, I just haven’t got to them yet.
November 2016 – Volume 15: Welcome to Wonderland
- Heartless by Marissa Meyer
- West End Tea Co. “Red Vanilla” tea
- Read and Wonder Cheshire & Queen of Hearts magnet Bookmarks
- Heart tea infuser spoon
- Retelling recommendations poster
I read Heartless just after getting this box and didn’t enjoy it too much. You can find my spoiler free review HERE. Again I don’t drink tea myself, but I gifted the tea and infuser spoon to a friend. The bookmarks from Read and Wonder are really cute though!
December 2016 – Volume 16: Simply Wonderful
- Finding Wonders by Jeannine Atkins
- Snitch Bracelete
- Down The Reading Hole “I fell into a book” Magnet
- Blossom Books Bookmakers
- Washi Tape
I don’t know if I will read this book or not, it is really interesting, but I just haven’t had the urge to pick it up, I should though, its so short it would only take a couple hours. I have the magnet on the side of my aircon in my room and love the quote on it! The post its a really cute and I keep forgetting to use them though! They are on my bedside table but just forget while reading! I covered the edge of one of my shelves with the washi tape and I think it’s really cute except that the wood is a little wider than the tape. I like that they added a description of why they chose that book as well!
January 2017 – Volume 17: Did Someone Say Fantasy?
- A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess
- Penguin Teen Australia Super-Proof 2017
- One Ring
- Behind The Pages “The Raven Cycle” Bookmark
- Miss Phi Society6 – A Darker Shade of Magic Print
- 2 x Tales Fantastic Illustrations
The book in this one is another I still haven’t read but plan to soon! I also love the idea of the Penguin Teen Australia Super-Proof 2017 book! That is an awesome idea and a cool thing to get in a subscription box! I already have a One Ring, but who doesn’t need two! The Raven Cycle bookmark is gorgeous and I have since purchased the entire set from them! The prints and illustrations are pretty cool too! I’m guessing the A Darker Shade of Magic one will make more sense when I get to read that book soon!
February 2017 – Volume 18: Can You Feel The Love Tonight?
- Valentine by Jodi McAlister
- Okay Okay Pin
- The Book Hangover “feysand” candle
- West End Tea Co. “Amortentia” tea
I think this is my second least favourite box so far. I don’t drink tea, but I do have it displayed on my bookshelf next to my potion bottle of Amortentia! The Feysand candle kinda smells bad to me, but I hope to be reading ACOMAF soon so that Feysand makes sense to me, because so far in ACOTAR it is feylin still. I have no interest in The Fault In Our Stars pin as I will probably never read that book and disliked the movie. The book does sounds interesting though!
March 2017 – Volume 19: Feels Like A Fairytale
- Frogkisser by Garth Nix
- From The Pages “Transmogrification” Lip Balm
- Ink and Wonder “Tale as old as time” sticker
- Burning Pages Candles “Villain” Bath Salts
This one was probably my least favourite box of all. The book does not sound like something I will enjoy, the lip balm is kinda meh, the bath salts honestly smell like peroxide being mixed with bleach powder, if anyone has ever bleached their hair themselves then they will understand that smell. The sticker is really cute, but that was the only thing I really enjoyed in this box. I did like that it came with a signed book plate and also that the page edges of the book are coloured! That’s always fun.
Overall I really enjoy getting these subscription boxes! Sometimes the items aren’t for me and sometimes the books aren’t going to interest me, but that’s one of the joys with subscription boxes! I do wish they created a fantasy and Contemporary option so that you could choose your prefered genre. That would be awesome!
