The YA Chronicles Exclusive Obsidio Box (Goodies Only) Unboxing

New Header Image (10)

Okay, so as many of you know, I chose to stop purchasing The YA Chronicles as it was no longer worth the money for me. However, when they announced an Obsidio box, I had to purchase. So I’m going to break down what I got, what I liked, disliked and whether it was worth it or not!

New Blog Title (13)

The YA Chronicles is based in Australia. They mostly do monthly subscription boxes but occasionally do these exclusive boxes.

Here is the link to their website!

It says on the website that there is international shipping, so I’m assuming they ship everywhere, so I’m sorry if they don’t ship to your country!

I will only be posting costing in AUD, so if you want to know what it would cost in your country then you can go here to convert it.

Cost of the Box: $39.99 AUD
Shipping to Aus and NZ: $9.99 AUD (this includes tracking)
Shipping internationally: $24.99 AUD (this includes tracking)

New Blog Title (14)

As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing so we can see if the box is worth the price tag!

IMG_1180

Galaxy Booksleeve

IMG_1190

Included is a gorgeous custom galaxy booksleeve created by Between the Pages. It’s so large it’ll fit Obsidio

Thoughts & Pricing

Okay, so even though it says that it will fit Obsidio, it won’t. I don’t have Obsidio yet as it is coming in the mail. But it won’t fit Illuminae & Gemina. It is so short! I’ll leave a pic below.
As for the pricing, I can’t find any book sleeves on their website. On Etsy most basic book sleeves like this are usually about $20

IMG_1191

</error> Candle

IMG_1183

The Book Hangover Store has created an amazing 4oz </error> candle for the end of the series. It smells of Vanilla, Black Pepper, Tobacco & Patchouli.

Thoughts and Pricing

I love candles so it couldn’t go wrong adding candles to boxes. This one claims to smell of Vanilla, Peppercorn, Tobacco & Patchouli but I can only really smell Patchouli with a hint of Vanilla. I can’t smell pepper or tobacco at all.
This is an exclusive, so this exact candle isn’t available but their 4oz candles are $12

Bracelet

IMG_1182

Charmed Fiction on Etsy has put together these super cute, custom bracelet pieces just for you! Finished the book but not ready to let the series go? Wear this gorgeous thing around to keep the space magic alive.

Thoughts and Pricing

So I was really disappointed with this. As you can see one of the charms have broken already. I only put it on and took it all off and it broke off. It was only attached with a paper thin piece of metal. So I have no idea how they thought that was going to last any length of time?!
Pricing for Charmed Fiction’s bracelets seems to vary depending on the number of charms and their size. So as this one only has 2 charms I’m going with $12.80. Again this is an exclusive, so it isn’t available on their store.

Paper Flower

IMG_1181

A Little Touch of Books has created an amazing death blooms paper flower, made from pages of the Illuminae books and splattered in the blood of these characters enemies.

Thoughts and Pricing

I have no idea what I’m going to do with this or where I can even put it as I feel like it will just get blown of my bookshelves by my aircon. But I do think it’s pretty cool.
Again this item isn’t actually for sale on their store. However, you can by paper flowers on Etsy for about $5 so that will do.

Tarot Cards

Last, Megan Jeong Books on Instagram has spent the last few months bringing the core cast to life in this brilliant Tarot card set. Find Kady, Ezra, Hanna, Nik, Asha, Rhys, and AIDAN in your pack.

Okay, so these don’t actually have the names on them they just say random words that relate to the character, but I think I know who is who!
Thinker = Kady
Flyer = Ezra
Fighter = Hanna
Joker = Nik
Heeler = Asha
Solider = Rhys
Power = AIDAN
The names Asha & Rhys aren’t familiar to me, so I am assuming they are from Obsidio. But I can guess which cards they are obviously.
As for pricing, this item again is not on their store. Based on the pricing of the prints she sells and the difference in size (as these are a lot smaller than the prints) I’m going to guess at $3 a card. So $3 x 7 cards = $21

The Spoiler Card

IMG_1185

I forgot to take a pic of the bookmark but it has the same design as this spoiler card and you can see it in the overview of all the items.

New Blog Title (15)

As this box didn’t contain the book I only paid $43.95 (including shipping within Aus).
Using the pricing underneath each picture it comes to a total value of $70.80. This is only a guess as most of the items aren’t available for individual sale. However, I’m pretty happy with the value of this box. Especially compared to the boxes I priced before I decided to stop purchasing (most of those were only just breaking even with how much I paid for them.)
I do like all the items in this book. The book sleeve, even though it won’t fit the Illuminae files books is still an alright book sleeve. It is not my favourite design, but it is okay. The bracelet, yes I am disappointed that it broke so easily but I’m not pissed off as I was going to rip off that charm anyway as I hate those fake glass looking charms. The candle smells alright and I’ll be able to use it in Bookstagram photos. The paper flower I probably won’t have much use of and I give it a week before it is wrecked by either accident or one of my animals. Lastly, the tarot cards, again I don’t know what I will do with them as I don’t have room to lay them all out on my shelves and they are too small to go on a wall. So they will probably only get used for Bookstagram photos as I do really like the design itself.

Untitled design (13)

What do you think of the items that came in this box? Did you get this box? Would you have liked to?
Who is keen for Obsidio!!!???

August 2017 OwlCrate Unboxing

More Header Image (1)

This is my second ever OwlCrate! I didn’t like this one as much as last month, mainly because there are just things I won’t get any use out of in this book.

Blog Titles (38)

Here is a link to their website!

Cost of the Box: $29.99 USD (Approx $37.50 AUD)
Shipping to Aus: $19.99 AUD (Approx $25.00 AUD)

OWL CRATE JR.:

Cost of the Box: $27.99 USD (Approx $35.00 AUD)

YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE PREVIOUS BOXES HERE!

Blog Titles (39)

August – Something Wicked This Way Comes…

As always I will write under each photo what is written in the book next to it. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing so we can see if the box is worth the price tag!

IMG_4036

Edgar Allan Poe Socks

IMG_4039

Once upon a midnight while I pondered, weak and weary… These Edgar Allan Poe socks from Out of Print will keep you warm when you experience chills from your next scary read!

This item costs $10 USD which is about $12.50 AUD.

Happenstance Coffee

IMG_4043

Time to brush up on your unforgivable curses! Raise a mug to He Who Must Not Be Named witht his yummy Dark Arts inspired medium roast coffee made exclusively by Happenstance Coffee. Nagini Approved!

They don’t sell this exact one or this size on their website, but their normal coffee is 8oz for $12, so going by that, this bad of coffee is worth $3.

Fountain Pen

IMG_4037

Want to write the next great horror novel? When inspiration strikes, use your new fountain pen from Ooly. These gorgeous pens write so smoothly and come with extra ink cartridges so you can write long into the night.

This pen cost $5 Usd which in about $6.30 AUD!

Sleepy Hollow & Other Stories

IMG_4046

Author Washington Irving created one of the most iconic characters of all time (the infamous Headless Horsemen) when he wrote Sleepy Hollow. But did you know he wrote other spooky stories as well? We hope you enjoy diving into this exclusive edition of Sleep Hollows & Other Stories, published by our friends at Rock Paper Books.

The Penguin Classics edition of Sleep Hollow & Other Stories costs $15.08 on Book Depository, so I’m going to value this one the same.

This Savage Song Sticker

IMG_4040

It’s no secret how much we adore Victoria Schwab here at OwlCrate. Her unique stories linger with you long after you turn the last page. To celebrate the conclusion of the Monsters of Verity duology, Evie Bookish has designed an exclusive This Savage Song sticker just for you!

So on her RedBubble her stickers about this size usually cost $2.87, so I’m going with that for this one too.

Double-Sided Bookmark

IMG_4044

IMG_4045

When thinking of wicked (yet lovable) characters, the gang from Ketterdam are at the top of our list! Treehouse of Books has designed an exclusive double-sided bookmark inspired by our favourite outcasts from Six of Crows.

So I can’t even find this Treehouse of Books store… But on average a double-sided bookmark will sell from between $3 & $5 on Etsy. This one is really nice quality so I will give it $5.

The Book!

IMG_4047

FullSizeRender 165

FullSizeRender 166

Would you ever be tempted to sell your soul? Dee gives up her heart and agrees to work for a demon in exchange for escaping a dangerous home life. But things quickly go awry, and Dee soon realises she’s dealing with much more than she bargained for. Alongside a group of other ‘heartless’ teens, Dee embarks on the fight of her life. Will they survive this chaotic nd otherworldly threat? Without a heart, will Dee ever be able to love again? The Hearts We Sold is a powerful, genre-blending story all about finding your inner strength, the power of friendship, and how important love is when the world goes dark. We also hope you enjoy the lapel pin (which will make sense once you read the story!).

On Book Depository this book is worth $22.40 and on QBD it costs $28.99. I’ll be using the Book Depository price.

Blog Titles (41)

So adding up all the pricing it ends up at $67.15 AUD. This box cost me $62.26 a month. For something worth $62 I expect a bit more value in the box. Last month was worth $84 which I was really happy with, this month was a bit below.

I don’t love this book as much as I did last months! In this months box I will not use the socks, one because I have no damn clue really who Edger Allan Poe besides that he is an American poet. Nor do I wear high socks like these. Also, I don’t drink coffee and neither does any of my friends or father and my Mum only drinks decaf unflavoured coffee… So that will probably go in the bin eventually. I’m not sure I will read Sleepy Hollows either.  I like the pen, sticker and bookmark a lot! I’m not sure on the book as it kinda sounds like a romance, which I’m not huge on, so I don’t know.

Well, that is all for this month’s OwlCrate unboxing! I didn’t get The YA Chronicles this month as I couldn’t afford both. As they usually have their boxes up for sale after the original shipment, so I will check out the spoilers and if I love the box then I will grab one! I will be really disappointed if The YA Chronicles is amazing as it’s the first one I haven’t got in months and I wasn’t obsessed with this months OwlCrate!

July 2017 The YA Chronicles Unboxing

Header Image (97)

I’m back for another The YA Chronicles unboxing! Let’s jump straight in!

Blog Titles (38)The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!

They have closed sales for the pride box but you can preorder the Tower of Dawn box. There are 3 options for this box. One is the UK paperback + goodies, the second is US Hardcover + goodies and the last is the UK paperback, US hardcover + goodies.

Also, this subscription box is not automatically recurring, so you do have to purchase it every month, which is good and bad because it means you can easily pick and choose the themes that you want to purchase but also you have to remember to get in before it sells out!

In this box every month, you receive a new release paperback YA book, a TYAC bookmark with that month’s theme on the back and 2-5 other bookish items. Each month is themed and the theme is announced as soon as the subscription box goes on sale!

Also they have previous boxes for sale! At the moment they have the following for sale:

June 2016: Pride Week
December 2016: Simply Wonderful
April 2017: Bippity Boppity Book
June 2017: Take To The Seas
July 2017: To The Revolution (This box)

Blog Titles (39)

VOLUME TWENTY THREE: TO THE REVOLUTION

As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing so we can see if the box is worth the price tag!

IMG_3560

Rise Up Candle

IMG_3561

Prepare for the revolution with the alluring scent of Rise Up, a Hamilton inspired candle made exclusively for this box by The Book Hangover. The candle smells of Hay, Tobacco, Leather, Amber & Mahogany.

The Book Hangover is currently closed and they also don’t usually make 4 oz candles, so I’m just going with the average pricing of a 4 oz bookish candle on Etsy. So I would price this at $8.

Magnetic Bookmark

FullSizeRender 142

FullSizeRender 146

Remember Amani from Rebel of the Sands (our first and most beloved rebel?) well now you have this super cute Amani magnetic bookmark by Epik Page on Etsy.

This one costs $3.05 on their Etsy store.

FullSizeRender 143

Place this Hamilton Rise Up decal onto your laptop, eReader, or even your bedroom wall and show off your dedication to the cause! Decal created by Goldparrotcreation on Etsy.

This one costs $3.90 on their Etsy store.

Feminist Pin

FullSizeRender 141

We absolutely love this Feminist pin from jubly-umph.com. Show off your feminist pride and fight for equality for all.

This one costs $16.95 on their website. I don’t agree with an item like this being in the box as not everyone are feminist, myself included. So I would get absolutely no use out of this pin.

Readvolution Sticker

FullSizeRender 152

Start a revolution of your own with this readvolution sticker from annaOMline on Redbubble.

You can purchase this sticker on their Redbubble store for $2.87.

Hachette Australia YA superproof

FullSizeRender 153

FullSizeRender 155

We’ve also provided you with a Hatchette Australia  YA Superproof so that you can decide on which books to read during your revolution.

These books are usually given away so I can’t put a value to this.

The Book

FullSizeRender 147

FullSizeRender 157

In our book of the month, The Walking Land by Callie Bates, Lady Elanna Valtai has been raised by the King since she was a child. But when the King dies under mysterious circumstances, Elanna is accused of his murder and flees back to her homeland. Fighting to suppress the strange connection she has to the natural world, Elanna must team up with her father to lead a revolution against the Kingdom to which she once gave her allegiance. Trapped between divided loyalties, she must summon the courage to confront a destiny that could tear her apart.

This book costs $17.88 on The Book Depository & $19.99 at both Dymocks & QBD.

The Bookmark

FullSizeRender 149

The Card

FullSizeRender 150

Blog Titles (41)

So all up this box was worth $52.65. This box costs me about $45 as I used a coupon code. But usually, the box is about $50 a month. Honestly, I would like a bit more value to the box as $3 extra really isn’t that worth it especially taking into account there is most likely going to be at least one item you don’t like or have no use for in each box. Hopefully, next month will have better value!

And that is all for this unboxing!

The book!

IMG_3587

This is the story of a charming lord who won’t grow up, his best friend (who he may or may not be in love with), and his studious and sassy little sister. This is the tale of their incredible road trip through 18-century Europe, and all of the mischief they encounter along the way. This book has everything you could ever want – an amazing cast of diverse characters, pirates, highwaymen, mysterious artifacts, laugh-out-loud moments, dangerous adventures, and ALL THE FEELS!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue has us smiling from beginning to end, and we know you’ll love it! We also hope you enjoy the exclusive cover, super fun letter and signed bookplate from Mackenzi Lee, as well as the cute art print map!

On Book Depository this book is $24.93 but I will give it $30 for the exclusive cover & signed book plate.

Blog Titles (41)

So adding up all the pricing it ends up at $83.97 AUD. This box cost me $62.26 so I am happy with how much this box ended up being worth.

I personally won’t use the owl bag tag as I don’t think it is cute and I just don’t travel anywhere that requires a bag tag. I also personally think it’s more of an item for kids.. I also won’t use the drawstring bag as I haven’t used them since Primary school when we had to.. Also, another item that I think is more for kids… Not necessarily the quote and design itself but the bag itself.

As always I will write under each photo what is written in the book next to it.

IMG_3114

Goblet of Fire Print

IMG_3120

See below the two variations that could have came. I like both prints but I think the one I got was my favourite. You can see in the photo above that in the background of the coloured flames is the towers of the Quidditch Pitch which I think is a tool addition.

Also in the front of the book GeekGear has added the following note

“Over the last few months we have made some amazing changed – one being out Prints! These are now ALL Licensed exclusives approved by Warner Bros and exclusive to us!’

So that’s cool!

IMG_3122 2

Exclusive Pin Series!

IMG_3115

Start collecting with our first ever No. 0001 World of Wizardry Pin!

So by the sound of that there will be a pin in each box from now on! Which is awesome and if they are all as cute as this one I will be happy! Also there was 3 variations that you could have gotten of this pon! There was Classic which is just the normal 1, there was the Silver edition that was 1 in 50 & Gold which is 1 in 100! So that was awesome that I got the Silver one when I never get the exclusive items!

IMG_3116

World of Wizardry Deck of Cards

IMG_3117

And you can see below what the cards themselves look like!

IMG_3131

House Scarf

A beautiful scarf, wear if with pride!

Show your love for the Wizarding World!

I couldn’t fit it all in one pic, so there is a pic of each houses section of the scarf!

Lightning Strike Necklace

IMG_3119

Flying Ford Anglia Figure

The famous car has been restored to its original condition and you can now proudly show it off on your shelf!

An exclusive figure by GeekGear!

IMG_3118

The Shirt.

FullSizeRender 137

I honestly don’t like this shirt. The colouring I think is what is weird for me because the blue is too dark and the brown kinda colour is just a bit weird. On the Ravenclaw House logo on Pottermore the Raven is a darker brown but the crest behind it is Blue and silver.. So I don’t know, the colours just don’t look right to me. You can see in the booklet photo below this, the design which would have been on the other house’s shirts!.

The Booklet!

IMG_3121

Well that is all for this months GeekGear World of Wizardry box! I really liked this book except the shirt, I wish I had got any of the other houses as they all looked awesome, just Ravenclaws didn’t look right to me. And even though I’m not a Slytherin or Hufflepuff I would have worn those shirts if I had received them because they look cool. But the Ravenclaw one will be put in a giveaway at some point.

June 2017 The YA Chronicles Unboxing

Header Image (64)

My June the YA Chronicles subscription box came today! So here is my unboxing! I will again put the price of each item underneath it and at the end add it up to see the value of the box!

Sweet Cherry Soda Bath Donut

IMG_2941

IMG_2942

Escape the Winter chill with your mermaid bath donut by sweetcherrysoda.com.au! Smelling of lime and coconut, this donut contains two bath bombs, a bubble bath and soap. That’s a total of four sea adventures in one.

So this exact bath bomb isn’t on their website. The ones on the site also don’t have a soap in the middle, they are just the two bath bombs and the bubble bath. Those ones on the site are $12, because this one also has the soap I’ll give it $14.

This Sea Witch patch by Liliancuda on Etsy is perfect for those of us who wish we were magical underwater beings. Just iron (or stitch) it ontoy your clothing of choice and you’re good to go.

Okay, first of all The YA Chronicles, you need to proof read your info card because it’s actually double L in Lilliancuda and also ‘it ontoy your’ is not words.

HERE is the link to the etsy store. And HERE is the link to this exact patch! It costs $8 on their Etsy store atm, it does say it’s on sale though.

A Darker Shade of Magic Print

IMG_2940

Nothing says take to the seas quite like Lila Bard for the Darker Shade of Magic Trilogy. Enjoy your custom and exclusive Lila Prin, created by the amazing Paperfury on Society6.

Again, I don’t think this was proof read and also it’s called the ‘Shades of Magic’ Trilogy, not ‘Darker Shade of Magic’.

The prints on their shop are usually $15, but on special at the moment for $12. I will use $15 as the price for this though.

Mermaid Socks

IMG_2951

You can’t grow a tail, but slipping your feet into these mermaid socks is the next best thing. Put your pair on and imagine yourself swimming across those seven seas in an adventure of your own.

It doesn’t say where these came from, but you can find them on ebay for around $6. And just a little note, I will never wear this and they will honestly probably go in the bin because I don’t know anyone who would actually wear these.

Pirates Treasure

IMG_2952

No sea adventure is complete without a little pirate treasure. We’ve done the hard part for you and located the treasure chest, all you have to do it enjoy your share.

This is something that you could get a bag of at a cheap shop for like $2.

Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser

IMG_2949

IMG_2950

The daughter of a wherryman, Caro believes she is destined for the river. She’s spent seventeen years listening to the water, waiting for the River God to speak to her. But she hasn’t heard a peep from him, and there’s a chance she never will. When her father is arrested for refusing to transport a mysterious crate, Caro decides to take on the job in exchange for his release. What follows in the Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser is an epic take on pirates, politics, and princes.

You can get this paperback edition on Book Depository for $13.04!

Blog Titles (41)

So for the items and book it adds up to $58, I would also add an extra say $5 for the 2 bookmarks. I don’t know what a letter from an author would be worth if anything, so I won’t add that to the value. That makes the total about $63 AUD. The box costs me about $50 which includes the shipping, so I’m happy with that value!

And that is all for this unboxing!

May 2017 The YA Chronicles Unboxing

Header Image (30)

My the YA Chronicles subscription box came today! So here is my unboxing! I will again put the price of each item underneath it and at the end add it up to see the value of the box!

Blog Titles (38)The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!

Blog Titles (39)

Volume Twenty one, I see fire

As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing to see if this box is worth the new pricing.

IMG_2403

Fireheart Candle

IMG_2404

IMG_2405

We love this FireHeart candle from Kozy Korner Boutique on Etsy. Inspired by our favourite Fae assassin, this candle smells of honeysuckle, peony & sandalwood. Light the fire and let the scent fill the room.

I don’t know who or what book this candle is inspired by as I don’t know who ‘our favourite Fae assassin’ is! So if you know let me know in the comments.
Candles this size are priced $15 on their etsy store, which you can find HERE!

Catching Fire Blind Bag

IMG_2408

In honour of the girl on fire, we’ve included catching fire blind bags from Ikon Collections.

I’m guessing this is the girl from District 4 in the 74th Hunger Games because in Catching Fire the female tribute was Mags and that’s not Mags.. So that’s what I’m guessing. These are worth $3.99 each.

Sailor Moon Socks

IMG_2410

Sailor Mars is one of the best sailor scouts. So we’ve included these super cute sailor Mars socks! Wear yours under your boots for that extra protection against evil.

I found these on some random website and they were $9.90 USD which is $13.30 in AUD.

Fire Nation Bracelet

IMG_2409

Life is calm and peaceful, “but everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.” Be part of the club wit this Fire Nation bracelet inspired by Avatar and the Legend of Korra.

I can’t find this but you can purchase bracelets with the same image but metal on eBay for around $1.

Sticky Notes

If you’re anything like us than tabs are a must when reading a good book. Use this Dragon sticky tab booklet while reading Flame in the Mist and tav your favourite parts.

This doesn’t have any branding on it but you can get these types of things for about $4 at cheap shops.

Book Folding Pattern

IMG_2411

Dogearforart on etsy has created this gorgeous Aelin Silhouette book folding pattern and we just had to include it. Get creative and make your own

I honestly don’t know how to price this.

Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh

IMG_2412IMG_2413

Mariko knows her fate – a political marriage to the son of the emperor’s favourite consort. But when she learns that the black clan have been hired to kill her before she reaches the palace, Mariko takes matters into her own hands. Determined to track down the person responsible for the  target on her back. Shs is pulled deeper into the Black Clan where she uncovers a dark history of secrets, of betrayal and murder, which will force her to question everything she’s ever known. You’ll get all of this and more in our book of the month: Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh.

I have already read this book as I received an eGalley of it! You can find my review for it HERE.

This book is $17.81 on Book Depository! You can find it here.

Blog Titles (41)

So this box added up to $55.10 not including the Book folding pattern and the book costs about $50 with the Australian shipping.

Overall this book was alright. I don’t watch Sailor Moon and I never plan to, so the socks are useless to me and the bracelet wouldn’t fit me, so I can’t wear that if I wanted to..

April 2017 The YA Chronicles Subscription Box Unboxing

Autumn

So I just recently posted me overview for all the boxes since I starting purchasing them! You can find that HERE! On the 1st of April The YA Chronicles put their prices up due to a change in shipping costs or something for them. They did a poll on twitter I think asking whether people wanted it to go up $5 and the box stays the same or $10 and get some more items in the box each month. This is the first box that they has applied to and this box contained 5 bookish items.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SUBSCRIPTION BOX

The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!

At the moment they have a Pride Box available which will include 1 new release hardcover  featuring a gay male protagonist & a new release Australian debut novel featuring a bisexual female character. The box are released in May and the boxes will ship shortly after. The box will cost $34.99 + shipping. I haven’t purchased this yet but if I have some spare cash before its sold out then I will.

Also, this subscription box is not automatically recurring, so you do have to purchase it every month, which is good because it means you can easily pick and choose the themes that you want to purchase

In this box every month, you receive a new release paperback YA book, a TYAC bookmark with that month’s theme on the back and 2-5 other bookish items. Each month is themed and the theme is announced as soon as the subscription box goes on sale!

What I received

Volume twenty, Bippity Boppity Book

As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing to see if this box is worth $50 AUD.

FullSizeRender 117

Harry Potter Inspired notebook

FullSizeRender 110

This month we’ve included for you an absolutely stunning Harry Potter inspired Notebook from Literary Emporium. There were six possible covers for you to receive: Magical Thinking, Potions, Advanced Spells, Divination, Magical Creatures, or Dark Forces.

This book is worth 4.00 GBP on their website, which is $6.65 AUD

A Darker Shade of Magic Magnetic Bookmarks

FullSizeRender 111

We love the A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy and so we’v included ADSOM magnetic bookmarks thanks to ReadAndWonder on Etsy. You will receive either Kell & Lila or Rhy & Alucard.

I haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic yet, can someone let me know which of that characters these are in the comments please!

On the ReadAndWonder Etsy page a set of 2 magnetic bookmarks are $4.00 AUD

The Night Circus Ticket

FullSizeRender 109

The circus arrives without warning, but fear not for you already have your ticket! Your night circus ticket was created for you by the lovely RedGoldSparksPress on etsy. It’s good for one entry so make the most of it.

You can purchase a set of 3 of these tickets on their etsy site for $10.20 AUD, so that is $3.40 each and we only get 1.

Niffler Key Chain

FullSizeRender 106

One of the best things to come from Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is the niffler. We wish we could have our own pet Niffler and this Niffler Keychain is the next best thing.

I found a similar keychain for sale for $12.00 online. I couldn’t find any with hearts instead of coins as this was obviously specially made.

Cinderella & Fairy Godmother Print

FullSizeRender 115

With a theme like this, we just had to include something from Cinderella. This Cinderella and Godmother print from Loliefreta on Etsy is stunning with the use of colour on black. All of loliefreta’s prints are stunning so make sure to check out her shop.

On their etsy shop this costs $13.47

The Secret Science of Magic Playing Card

The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil

FullSizeRender 113

FullSizeRender 114

Welcome to the April “Bippity Boppity Book” box filled with all things magical! Our book this month is the wonderful The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil. This coming-of-age tale follows teenagers Sophia and Joshua. Sophia is genius-level smart but can’t quite figure out how to crack the code that is social interaction. Joshua spends his time honing magic tricks and planning how to win Sophia’s heart. In live and love, timing is everything.

Goodreads Synopsis:

A captivating novel about two extraordinary teens, and the unsolvable problem of life after high school.

Sophia is smart, like genius-calculator-brain smart. But there are some things no amount of genius can prepare you for, and the messiness of real life is one of them. When everything she knows is falling apart, how can she crack the puzzle of what to do with her life?

Joshua spends his time honing magic tricks and planning how to win Sophia’s heart. But when your best trick is making schoolwork disappear, how do you possibly romance a genius?

In life and love, timing is everything.

From Melissa Keil, the award-winning YA author of Life in Outer Space and The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl.

This book cost $19.99 on QBD at the moment. It isn’t available on Book Depository or I would have got their pricing.

The Bookmark

FullSizeRender 116

I will just give this bookmark $2 in value because its not a handmade/homemade/hand designed print. It’s just a printed bookmark.

The Card

FullSizeRender 107

So for pricing this box is worth $61.51, so it is worth a bit over $50 (the $50 includes shipping within Aus) so that is pretty good and worth the money!

I don’t know if the book is something I will read, but maybe eventually! I’m not a big contemporary reader, so this book isn’t going straight to the top of my TBR pile. The magnetic bookmarks are cute but as I haven’t read A Darker Shade of Magic yet I don’t know which pair they are yet. The niffler keychain is cute but he needs a nose! The notebook is interesting and I love how old it looks. The Night Circus ticket is a fun item, I haven’t read The Night Circus yet but plan to and the Cinderella print is really pretty and will go up on my wall by the end of today!

The YA Chronicles – An Overview of the last year!

Screen Shot 2017-04-13 at 10.58.24 pm

So I have been getting The YA Chronicles since February last year, I did miss 2 throughout that time though. I will still show and talk about those months boxes even though I didn’t get them. I also thought I would point out that they have put their post up from $29.99 to $39.99 as of 1st April due to shipping cost increase but they also claim to be adding more items to the boxes from now on, so we will see. So for Australians it will now be a total cost of $49.98 with shipping. If the new products are added and continue the same quality then I will continue subscribing, but if not then I may unsubscribe.

What we got in each box since last Feb and my opinion of each one

As I only started doing unboxing since September so I will be using photos that are taken off The Ya Chronicles website which I believe they got from other people’s Instagrams. I will credit the photographer under the photo and link to their Instagram if it is still active.

If I find links to any of the items I will link them!

February 2016 – Volume 6: Rebel with a Cause

February-16-@bookstorefinds-300x300

I’m a fantasy reader, so this box was  really interesting to me. Rebel of the Sands turned out to be one of my newer favourite series as well, so that is great! And HERE is my review for it. The Dauntless lip balm & Hunger Games poster were really fun items as I’m a Divergent & Hunger Games fan! I don’t drink tea, so I gave that one to my Mum, but that’s personal preference. And lastly the Throne of Glass stickers, this is a well known series and would be a good item for many people! I still haven’t read this series, so I didn’t know who those characters specifically were, but I thought they were cute and had them on my iPad for a while.

March 2016 – Volume 7: Australia Made (Missed)

March-16-@mugglemagicisbooks-300x300

I missed this one which didn’t bother me too much because it is a contemporary and I’m not a huge contemporary reader. As for the other items, the tote bag would have been cool but I don’t really use them that often. I would have liked the wooden bookmark though as I think they are really unique but I still don’t own one.

April 2016 – Volume 8: Journal Junkie

snowflakebooks-300x300

Okay, so this book was one that I didn’t personally enjoy when I read it. HERE is my review. But everything else in the box was really good. I still occasionally use those stickers in my diary, when I decide to remember it, as I have a few left still. I also still use that notebook for my shopping lists when I use a written list. I have lost the tape now, but the it was really cool.

May 2016 – Volume 9: Summer Daze, Drifting Away

May-250x300

This was another book I enjoyed reading, it was one of the first contemporaries I really enjoyed and I would more than likely not have picked it up if I hadn’t received it in this box. You can find my review HERE. I loved the fairy bread candle. I still haven’t burnt it though because it’s too pretty. There was two options of magnetic bookmarks to receive and I got the sun one and I honestly have no idea where it went, as I never used to have any way to display or store them so it probably just went in my room somewhere, but it’s really cute! Lastly the bath bomb came pretty smashed up as Australia Post aren’t exactly the most carefully with packages, but oh well. It is still sitting in a The YA Chronicles box in my front room as I don’t have a bath to use it in and neither does any of my friends! Still a cool item for those who could use it haha.

June 2016 – Volume 10: Pride Week

13562131_265605157133205_436524983_n-298x300

Loved loved loved this box! This book was really good and another enjoyable contemporary. HERE is my review! I still wear the wristband, I have it on right now. I have that rainbow poster up on my wall in my room. I also still have the Shadowhunters necklace with all my other jewelry and I did wear it for a while. I really should put it on display with the first 3 The Mortal Instrument books that I own. And the tote bag, as I said before I don’t really use bags that much, so it is up in my cupboard.

July 2016 – Volume 11: Ladies Who Slay (Missed)

@thebookshire-July-2016-242x300

It really sucks that I missed this box! The book is something I’m still interested in reading I just don’t have a copy on. The thing I wish I got the most was the  Hermione’s wand necklace!! Tris’s bird temporary tattoo would have been cool too. I haven’t read The Crowns Game so it didn’t bother me that I didn’t get the bookmark and I don’t watch Sailor Moon, so that didn’t annoy me either. But hermione’s wand!!!

August 2016 – Volume 12: Professional Book Lovers

@papillon_books-August-2016-300x203

I still haven’t read this book, but I do really want to! It sounds so interesting! I haven’t actually used that light as where I read it doesn’t need extra light. The scarf is absolutely awesome and such a cool idea! The soap smelt really good, I haven’t used it as a lot of soaps effect my skin, so I didn’t want to risk it and also it’s just prettier to look at than use haha.

September 2016 – Volume 13: You Win or You Die

FullSizeRender 11

My Unboxing

Photo’s from now on are all mine!

This was probably my least favourite box for the items. The candles were kinda boring and they didn’t smell that great to my preference. The characters that the candles were themed with weren’t one I really knew at the time. I have now read Snow Like Ashes, so I know who Meira is now, but I haven’t read Throne of Glass, The Lunar Chronicles or The Wrath and the Dawn so I don’t know who those are. The prints were okay, I hated GoT, so that one was meh to me, the Harry Potter one was really nice though! And the ring was just small cheap and I probably would have snapped it if I had tried to make it big enough to fit my fingers, so it wasn’t a great month for the bookish items in my opinion. The book is one I haven’t read yet but I really want to get to soon!

Gemina Box

IMG_5544

My Unboxing

This wasn’t one of the monthly boxes, this was an extra thing. Just like the A Court of Wing & Ruin box they had for sale a little while ago and the Pride Box they have for sale now. I loved Illuminae so I had to get this box! Gemina was so damn good! HERE is my spoiler free review. And a signed copy! I really liked the print of the Heimdall and the Illuminae bookmark!

October 2016 – Volume 14: Against All Odds

IMG_5691

My Unboxing

This was another eh box for me. I’m not going to go into detail about everything, but I don’t really read contemporary, I haven’t read Percy Jackson or Six of Crows and I don’t know who Manon is. For people who have read the corresponding books it would be a good box though, I just haven’t got to them yet.

November 2016 – Volume 15: Welcome to Wonderland

FullSizeRender 21

My Unboxing

I read Heartless just after getting this box and didn’t enjoy it too much. You can find my spoiler free review HERE. Again I don’t drink tea myself, but I gifted the tea and infuser spoon to a friend. The bookmarks from Read and Wonder are really cute though!

December 2016 – Volume 16: Simply Wonderful

IMG_6206

My Unboxing

I don’t know if I will read this book or not, it is really interesting, but I just haven’t had the urge to pick it up, I should though, its so short it would only take a couple hours. I have the magnet on the side of my aircon in my room and love the quote on it! The post its a really cute and I keep forgetting to use them though! They are on my bedside table but just forget while reading! I covered the edge of one of my shelves with the washi tape and I think it’s really cute except that the wood is a little wider than the tape. I like that they added a description of why they chose that book as well!

January 2017 – Volume 17: Did Someone Say Fantasy?

FullSizeRender 67

My Unboxing

The book in this one is another I still haven’t read but plan to soon! I also love the idea of the Penguin Teen Australia Super-Proof 2017 book! That is an awesome idea and a cool thing to get in a subscription box! I already have a One Ring, but who doesn’t need two! The Raven Cycle bookmark is gorgeous and I have since purchased the entire set from them! The prints and illustrations are pretty cool too! I’m guessing the A Darker Shade of Magic one will make more sense when I get to read that book soon!

February 2017 – Volume 18: Can You Feel The Love Tonight?

IMG_0764

My Unboxing

I think this is my second least favourite box so far. I don’t drink tea, but I do have it displayed on my bookshelf next to my potion bottle of Amortentia! The Feysand candle kinda smells bad to me, but I hope to be reading ACOMAF soon so that Feysand makes sense to me, because so far in ACOTAR it is feylin still. I have no interest in The Fault In Our Stars pin as I will probably never read that book and disliked the movie. The book does sounds interesting though!

March 2017 – Volume 19: Feels Like A Fairytale

IMG_1325

My Unboxing

This one was probably my least favourite box of all. The book does not sound like something I will enjoy, the lip balm is kinda meh, the bath salts honestly smell like peroxide being mixed with bleach powder, if anyone has ever bleached their hair themselves then they will understand that smell. The sticker is really cute, but that was the only thing I really enjoyed in this box. I did like that it came with a signed book plate and also that the page edges of the book are coloured! That’s always fun.

Overall I really enjoy getting these subscription boxes! Sometimes the items aren’t for me and sometimes the books aren’t going to interest me, but that’s one of the joys with subscription boxes! I do wish they created a fantasy and Contemporary option so that you could choose your prefered genre. That would be awesome!
