My June the YA Chronicles subscription box came today! So here is my unboxing! I will again put the price of each item underneath it and at the end add it up to see the value of the box!
The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!
Here is the link to their website!
It says on the website that there is international shipping, so I’m assuming they ship everywhere, so I’m sorry if they don’t ship to your country!
I will only be posting costing in AUD, so if you want to know what it would cost in your country then you can go here to convert it.
Cost of the Box: $39.99 AUD
Shipping to Aus and NZ: $9.99 AUD (this includes tracking)
Shipping internationally: $24.99 AUD (this includes tracking)
They have closed sales for the pride box but you can preorder the Tower of Dawn box. There are 3 options for this box. One is the UK paperback + goodies, the second is US Hardcover + goodies and the last is the UK paperback, US hardcover + goodies.
Also, this subscription box is not automatically recurring, so you do have to purchase it every month, which is good and bad because it means you can easily pick and choose the themes that you want to purchase but also you have to remember to get in before it sells out!
In this box every month, you receive a new release paperback YA book, a TYAC bookmark with that month’s theme on the back and 2-5 other bookish items. Each month is themed and the theme is announced as soon as the subscription box goes on sale!
Also they have previous boxes for sale! At the moment they have the following for sale:
June 2016: Pride Week
December 2016: Simply Wonderful
April 2017: Bibbity Boppity Book
June 2017: Take to the Seas (This box)
Volume Twenty Two: Take to the Seas
As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing so we can see if the box is worth the price tag!
Sweet Cherry Soda Bath Donut
Escape the Winter chill with your mermaid bath donut by sweetcherrysoda.com.au! Smelling of lime and coconut, this donut contains two bath bombs, a bubble bath and soap. That’s a total of four sea adventures in one.
So this exact bath bomb isn’t on their website. The ones on the site also don’t have a soap in the middle, they are just the two bath bombs and the bubble bath. Those ones on the site are $12, because this one also has the soap I’ll give it $14.
Iron on Patch
This Sea Witch patch by Liliancuda on Etsy is perfect for those of us who wish we were magical underwater beings. Just iron (or stitch) it ontoy your clothing of choice and you’re good to go.
Okay, first of all The YA Chronicles, you need to proof read your info card because it’s actually double L in Lilliancuda and also ‘it ontoy your’ is not words.
HERE is the link to the etsy store. And HERE is the link to this exact patch! It costs $8 on their Etsy store atm, it does say it’s on sale though.
A Darker Shade of Magic Print
Nothing says take to the seas quite like Lila Bard for the Darker Shade of Magic Trilogy. Enjoy your custom and exclusive Lila Prin, created by the amazing Paperfury on Society6.
Again, I don’t think this was proof read and also it’s called the ‘Shades of Magic’ Trilogy, not ‘Darker Shade of Magic’.
The prints on their shop are usually $15, but on special at the moment for $12. I will use $15 as the price for this though.
Mermaid Socks
You can’t grow a tail, but slipping your feet into these mermaid socks is the next best thing. Put your pair on and imagine yourself swimming across those seven seas in an adventure of your own.
It doesn’t say where these came from, but you can find them on ebay for around $6. And just a little note, I will never wear this and they will honestly probably go in the bin because I don’t know anyone who would actually wear these.
Pirates Treasure
No sea adventure is complete without a little pirate treasure. We’ve done the hard part for you and located the treasure chest, all you have to do it enjoy your share.
This is something that you could get a bag of at a cheap shop for like $2.
Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser
The daughter of a wherryman, Caro believes she is destined for the river. She’s spent seventeen years listening to the water, waiting for the River God to speak to her. But she hasn’t heard a peep from him, and there’s a chance she never will. When her father is arrested for refusing to transport a mysterious crate, Caro decides to take on the job in exchange for his release. What follows in the Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser is an epic take on pirates, politics, and princes.
You can get this paperback edition on Book Depository for $13.04!

Letter from the Author
Monthly The YA Chronicles Bookmark
Info Card
So for the items and book it adds up to $58, I would also add an extra say $5 for the 2 bookmarks. I don’t know what a letter from an author would be worth if anything, so I won’t add that to the value. That makes the total about $63 AUD. The box costs me about $50 which includes the shipping, so I’m happy with that value!
And that is all for this unboxing!
Wow, looks good! I can’t commit to any one book sub box, that’s why I choose not to sub to any. Just too many options, and then I’ll worry I’m missing out on good things if I were to sub to another instead. Plus, what if I don’t like all the stuff I get? Then it just becomes more junk in my room. $50 is a lot for a cheap-ass like me, considering I already spend that buying books each month! Maybe if I just stopped eating…. *hmm*

Haha fair enough. This is the one that I have stuck with for the longest. It’s an Australian company and I like supporting fellow Aussies. I have considered OwlCrate, but it’s always sold out. And I also want to try Fairyloot, I was going to get it this month but it was sold out, so I will try for next month if I have the spare cash. I usually like most of the things that are in the boxes. And the stuff that I don’t goes into a box to go to future giveaways or to friends.
The three items that are regular things for Bookish subscription boxes that I wish they would send are Bath bombs, as I don’t have a bath, tea as I don’t drink tea or coffee as I’m allergic to caffeine and don’t like the taste of any test I have ever tried and mugs. I don’t drink tea or coffee… so mugs just go on my bookshelf and not get used for that reason. Those are the only items I have a real issue with but besides that I’m usually pretty happy with everything that comes in The YA Chronicles boxes.
And it is a fair bit of money, but I only get it when I have extra cash at the time, that’s what’s good about this one, it’s not automatically recurring, so I can make sure I can afford it before I purchase it.
And I’m on a book buying ban atm, so I don’t feel as bad buying this box this month because I’m not spending anything on books haha. 😂😊

That’s a cute one…I do have a question though…
Do you get Hardcover books out there? I’ve only seen paperbacks and we don’t get a paperback option until the book has been out for months.

Well The YA Chronicles only ever ships paperbacks in their box.
But as for other books I think we get paperbacks first? I have no idea really. I buy from Book Depository. But when I have been to bookstores they basically never carrying hardcover editions or if they do you have to ask for them. Except books that only come out in hard cover that is.
But besides that I really don’t know.
Unless authors are Australian we usually get UK editions of books. So I guess we get whatever they get.
But I have noticed that people in America are excited for the releases of books that we already have sometimes..
