Wrap Up since I’ve been MIA

Hey all! So yes, I’ve been MIA but life has been crazy! I’m finally settling into a new schedule and want to get back to the things I enjoy doing! Like blogging. So let’s wrap up the books I have read since my last wrap up in January!
Let’s jump into it.

Audiobook

I have been busy so haven’t had a chance for a lot of physical reading. Coincidently audiobooks have been amazing. I took this time to relisten to some books so that I could finally continue or finish the series. So I am finally update/finished the Wayward Children series & Shades of Magic series. I’m also finally listening to Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston. The sequel for Crown of Coral and Pearl will be next up so I can finally finish off that one too!

Physical Read

Got to two of my most anticipated releases! The Mask Falling is book 4 in The Bone Season series which it has been a F*CKING LONG WAIT for! It was amazing so well worth the wait. Also picked up The Prison Healer as soon as I got my copy and it was so damn good! That cliffhanger was insane! I’m so glad it’s only a couple months to wait for book 2.

Currently Reading

Will be starting This is Not a Ghost Story as soon as I finish this post! I’m also currently listening to Bookish and the Beast which is pretty good so far.

Scribd “Saved” Spring Clean!

Welcome to a possibly confusing post! So, we all know the unhaul posts where you take books off your shelves because you either don’t plan to read them anymore or you’ve read it and didn’t love it enough to keep it. Well after that I bought you my Goodreads “Want to read” Clear Out! Which was basically the same thing but I was removing books from my Goodreads shelf that I am no longer interested in. Welllllll, today I bring you a Scribd “Saved” Spring Clean! Firstly I would like to say, no, it is in fact not spring… Nor is it close to spring here in Australia…. But the 3 Ss just sounded good together… Secondly, if you didn’t know when you have a scribd membership you can ‘save’ eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, etc. to the ‘Saved’ Section so you can more easily find them. That section is what I’m clearing out! I have never been through and removed books from this & I have had the account for at least 6 years now… I think it’s time!
Let’s jump in!

eBooks I’ve read…

Unread eBooks…

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

Audiobooks I’ve read…

Unread audiobooks…

Who else needs to do a major clear out of their Scribd saved list?!

Two Line Reviews

Two Line Reviews 📚 #1

I found myself scrolling through the Reader tab looking at other peoples posts and while doing so I was thinking that I should do some mini reviews for the books I read in January as I didn’t review ANY of them! Next second THIS post came up called ‘One-Line Reviews #2’ from Pooled Ink and it was a perfect fit for what I was thinking about! So no, this was not my idea & you should definitely go check out Pooled Ink!

So, welcome to my first Two Line Reviews post! I didn’t think 1 line was quite enough for me, so 2 it is. I will try & do these frequently and they will include the books that I haven’t reviewed which will generally be audiobooks & graphic novels that I’ve read. I’ll try and aim for 5 books each post and hopefully post twice a month depending on how many books I read that month!
Enough talking, let’s jump in!

Bee and PuppyCat: Volume 1 by Natasha Allegri

3 Stars

This graphic novel was just weird & confusing. I didn’t get anything out of it and I didn’t see any point to it but the art was cute.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

2.5 Stars

I don’t personally enjoy the lyrical type writing style of this one as I find it excess & sometimes confusing. This one I also found slow & kinda boring which I think is definitely influenced by the writing style having so much floweriness (yes, that’s a word now) & excess detail.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

4 Stars

Absolutely amazing representation & Characters and the plot was engaging and fun. I didn’t personally like the insta love romance, just not my thing, and I just don’t think it quite lived up to the hype everyone has been giving it.

To Best the Boys by Mary Weber

This one was so much fun and had amazing main characters that I just loved so much! To Best the Boys was also very engaging & I was hooked from the very beginning.

Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl

I expected this to be a fairly common YA Mystery but nope, let’s throw a fantastical element in there! This was so interesting, gripping & well written.

Reading Slump? 📚 January Wrap Up

In January I tried 4 times to read a book physically but I just wasn’t feeling it and ended up putting it down after a chapter or two OR swapping to audiobook. I can’t be sure if this is an actual slump or if I’m just not in the mood for those books. As I was in Bookopoloy ReadAThon I didn’t have a huge amount of control over what I could choose to read. I’ve been in a huge Mystery/Thriller kick lately and I just didn’t have books of those genres that could fit in the challenges, so I was left with a lot of Fantasy which I haven’t been in the mood for lately… I won’t talk about the ones I stopped reading as I didn’t read more than 2 chapters of any of them & I’m not even counting them as DNFs.

Graphic Novel

Bee and Puppycat: Volume 1

Audiobooks

Currently Listening

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling

Well that is all the books I read in January. Definitely not my best month but not too bad considering I was struggling to pick up a book. Thank goodness for audiobooks!!

I’m back! 📚 February TBR

So, I’m back! I took an unplanned 3 week break from blogging and YouTube which I think I really needed. After posting every day of December I really wasn’t feeling motivated. So I took some time & I’m back! Will hopefully be back on youtube soon too. Had to fix an SD card issue first… Literally 2 SD cards of mine are breaking at the same time (One my camera cannot read at all) & I want to get new ones before recording anything.

Anyways! Here is my February TBR. In January I participated in Bookopoly ReadAThon and because of the challenges I landed on I didn’t get a chance to read the books I was super keen for! So hopefully I will get a chance in February. This TBR will be short however as I have ALOT on in Feb including organise the Miles From Anywhere Auto Show & Shine (including traveling to pick up supplies like trophies for the evnet), helping out with events for Miles Golf Club & Carnivals happening at work. It’s going to be a busy month!

Another rambling! let’s jump in!

Physical/eBooks

Audiobooks

I am currently listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire but I’m not sure yet if I will continue the series or just jump into something else. I won’t bother including the covers for those as I think you all know what they look like by now.

Well that’s about it for my February TBR. I have a couple rereads on here (Geekerella, The Princess and the Fangirl & Crown of Coral and Pearl) as I want to reread those before continuing onto the next book in those series as it’s been a while.

Let’s Chat!

2020 Reading Goals & Challenges 📚 Wrap Up

Today I’ll be talking about my 2020 goals/challenges & how I went. To be honest I lost focus on these challenges completely after I fell into a reading slump in March/April. After that I was simply focusing on reading what I felt like reading to try and kill the slump! So, let’s jump in.

20 Books to Read in 2020

This was a fail…. I read 4 out of the 20 books that I planned to.
Read:
Nyxia Unleashed by Scott Reingten
King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs
The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson

Didn’t Read:
A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kaung
Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers

Big Book Reading Challenge

This one was a bit of a fail. My goal was to read 1 book from each of the following categories:
801 – 900
901 – 1000
1001+
I ended up reading 1 book between 801 – 900 and that was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix which I reread twice in 2020. Which didn’t really fulfil the challenge as it was a reread & an audiobook. But oh well.

End of the Year series!

Worst & Most Dissapointing Books of 2020

Today I am going to chat about the worst & most disappointing books of 2020. Usually I write two seperate posts for these categories but this year there is only 3 books that fit the category of ‘worst books’. This year I really stuck to the idea that if I’m not enjoying then DNF! So, I didn’t finish too many books that I really didn’t enjoy. 2 of the ones on the ‘worst’ list are Graphic Novels as they are super short, so I do finish those even if I’m not loving it because they only take an hour or less usually.

Worst Books I Read in 2020

Kriss: The Gift of Wrath by Ted Na

Firstly we have Kriss: The Gift of Wrath which is a Graphic Novel which I received on NetGalley. This one was just confusing. I couldn’t follow what was going on and didn’t understand most of it. I rated this on 2.5 stars!
You can find my full review HERE!

The Celestial Gate bu Avital Dicker

Next I have The Celestial Gate which was just straight up not what it was advertised as. The synopsis is completely different to what actually happens & I break it down in my review, which you can find HERE! Besides the synopsis issue it was bland and not well written. My other complaint is that it is very heavily religion based which because of the synopsis was not what I was expecting. I went in keen for a YA adventure book but instead got a very religious booked based on reincarnation & a quest to find god….. Not what I signed up for.

EverAfter by Olivia Vieweg

EverAfter is another graphic novel & this one is translated as far as I know but, so I can’t be sure if it’s the translation that is the issue here or just the actual story. I was so damn confused though! The cover makes it look like a whimsical kind of story but then inside it’s actually about mental health & zombies??? I figured out that there is a zombie apocalypse happening but that is literally all I know. Nothing was explained, it was hard to follow & just left me confused.

Most Dissapointing Books I Read in 2020

The End and Other Beginnings by Veronica Roth

Just like most of these books I just expected more. I love Divergent by Veronica Roth and I expected to at least like half of these stories however I ended up liking 2, disliking 2 & feeling meh about the other 2. So I only enjoyed 2 out of 6 which is not great… I expected better but was just left disappointed.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky by Mackenzi Lee

The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky is a novella for the Montague Siblings trilogy which I have so far loved book 1 & 2 in the series. This one however just let me underwhelmed & also cringing for most of it… I was disappointed with this one compared to all her other works that I have read which have been amazing!

The Backstagers: Vol 3 by James Tynion

I don’t know if there is a technical term for what this book is but it is basically a graphic novel novella bind up for The Backstagers Vol 1 & 2. I loved The Backstagers Vol 1 & 2! This however was confusing & kind of pointless. I expected simply a 3rd story but it’s a heap of little stories which I just didn’t see the point off and the characters started to annoy me in this when that wasn’t the case for Vol 1 & 2… Wasn’t impressed with this one and I’d recommend just reading Vol 1 & 2.

The Test by Sylvain Neuvel

How can the same person write The Themis Files, which were gripping, emotional & unpredictable, and write The Test, which was bland and predictable… I don’t get it. This was a short story and I really didn’t care for it. This one left me underwhelmed and I was so curious for this one as The Themis Files is just soooo good!

This one I still rated a 4 however for me it didn’t quite live up to the hype. I hear such amazing things about Branden Sanderson & yes this book was good but it didn’t blow my mind. So was slightly dissapointed.

Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia

This is another one that was being hyped so much and there was such positive feedback but I was not impressed. I rated this one 3 stars and I was honestly just confused and blown away by the ‘big reveal’. It just felt kind of ridiculous & was not expected at all. I guess it can get bonus points for unpredictability but that’s about it for me.

Odd One Out by Nic Stone

Odd One Out was super disappointing for me! I read Dear Martin & loved it! So I was excited about reading some of Nic Stone’s other works but this one was just bad. This features a very toxic relationship & also person & neither of which were really rectified or discussed. I’m glad that this author has grown since writing this but it still makes me hesitant to read more by this author.

Let’s Chat!

Last Year I Was Reading...

Last Year I Was Reading… # 16

So, I’m joining a weekly feature that is kind of like a Throwback Thursday! Last Year I Was Reading… was created by ReadingMaria!

Take your current read and compare it to what you reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to? Be sure to link it back to my blog so I can see them!

This Year I Am Reading…

I am struggling a little with this one! I started reading physically but this has that kind of flowery writing style that I’m personally not a fan of. So I ended up swapping to the audiobook but I am struggling keeping occupied with it. I’m getting bored I guess. I will finish it as I have already read 45% and I’m in a ReadAThon and don’t want to have wasted 5 days on a book to not even complete a challenge with it… So I’ll finish it but I’m not loving it.

Last Year I Was Reading…

The End and Other Beginnings is an anthology, so it’s difficult to rate as a whole as it was 6 individual stories. Overall though, I was disappointed as out of the 6 stories there were 2 good ones, 2 average ones & 2 not great ones. So that’s 4 that weren’t amazing & only 2 that were… So overall a disappointment.

This is a hard one as The End and Other Beginnings was disappointing & I’m not loving The Ten Thousand Doors of January. At the moment I think I’m going to choose The End and Other Beginnings purely because of the two stories in the anthology that I really enjoyed!
