Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Absolutely gorgeous! Have no idea what the meaning it to do with the book but they are really nice covers!
I really enjoyed the writing of this book. It was descriptive and easy to follow. The writing also flowed well. I did enjoy the words that parts that were
crossed out. It was an interesting addition and a lot of the time it was used for things that Juliette didn’t think she should be thinking if that makes sense. At times it made it easier to understand her as we had those little extra bits of information. This happened mostly through the first half of the book and in the last half it was only every now and then.
To be completely honest it’s a little predictable. A girl with a dangerous power and being locked up and then saved by someone who wants to use her for torture or getting information from others (very Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken vibes). Even though it was kinda predictable I did enjoy it. The only thing I didn’t love was the romance. As I say in every damn post, I don’t like reading about romances, especially in Fantasy books. If I am reading a fantasy/sci-fi I want the main focus to be the events and the world but a lot of time in this book the romance was the main focus and that is just not something I enjoyed. The romance was a little iffy for me too. I get that they knew of each other before the events in this book but in reality, it was ‘know of’ them before not actually knowing them. So for that reason, I would definitely call this instalove. Also slightly a love triangle which neither I am definitely not a fan of!
Juliette was an okay character. I did like that even after everything she has been through she is still trying to be a good person at heart. Adam was enjoyable, he is kind and caring and would do anything for the people he cares about. Warner is the last of the major characters and I don’t like him in the slightest. I will never agree with a character like him who is just cruel and expects to get everything he asks for. He acts like he is patient and caring but he is actually cold, calculating and twisted. I feel like he is written and feels a lot older than he is as well. He is around 19 I think but he is kinda written as a creepy older man.
So as I said there is a slight love triangle in this book. I hate it, I don’t care who the characters are, I don’t like it. But especially with these character as Warner is just cruel and an animal and I don’t understand at all how anyone could even consider him as a love interest.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and the world a lot but the romance I didn’t like in the slightest. The writing was also enjoyable. I didn’t love Juliette, she was just okay and Warner was horrible, but also the perfect bad guy I guess. I did enjoy Adam though, so at least there is 1 out of 3 I like. I probably won’t be continuing this series soon, but I do want to as I want to know what happens next and I’m just hoping the romance improves!
