Goodreads Synopsis
A Cinderella story with deadly stakes and thrilling twists, perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying and Knives Out.
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why–or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch–and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.
Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.

This one was a very pleasant surprise as there has been very little talk about it & I had no idea what to expect.
The Inheritance Games was a very mysterious & unpredictable story. It was gripping & I found myself not wanting to stop listening. It was very addictive actually, even if I could only listen to 3 minutes of it in between other thinks I found myself putting it on when I usually wouldn’t. So that tells me that I was enjoying it!
All the characters were very realistic and nearly all had a backstory and depth put into them. I like that you also saw the characters developing & showing more of themselves throughout as Avery got to know them. I also like how different the 4 boys are. The author could have gave them all the same qualities but every one was unique & interesting in their own way.
I also loved how atmospheric the book was. I loved learning about the house & surrounds as it really built a picture & set the scene. The authors writing when it came to explaining things definitely helped in engrossing you in the story and being invested in the characters.
Overall I really enjoyed The Inheritance Game and more than I thought I would as I simply didn’t know what to expect as I have heard basically no one talking about this. This is book 1 in a duology, so I’m loving that as duologys are hard to find. I’m very keen to see what will happen next!
