So there is a couple Read-A-Thons coming up that I want to participate in and I just wanted to talk about them! I will do another one of these at the end of May for the ReadAThons starting in June & continue this throughout the year.

So this one is coming up at the end of April and I will definitely be participating in this one!

This is a ReadAThon that goes for 24 hours! There is no reading challenges, you just read as much as you can in that time. What is different about this ReadAThon is that it doesn’t start at midnight in your timezone, it starts at the exact same time no matter where you are in the world! So if you are interested in participating HERE is a link to find out when it starts in your timezone

For me in Australia is starts at 10pm on the 29th of April and finishes at 10pm on the 30th of April.

Find more info HERE and Sign-Ups are HERE!

For this one I will be posting a TBR on the day before this one as there is no reading challenges it will just depend on where I’m up to at the time!

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read. In May the aim is to ReRead books! I don’t know what exactly I want to ReRead yet but I will also post a TBR for this one closer to the date. Also each month there is a challenge and May’s challenge is to read books that are 400+ pages (this is optional I believe).

You can find their Goodreads group HERE!

This one runs from midnight in your timezone on the 1st of May until 11:59pm on the 7th of May.

For this one there is also sometimes group reads. There isn’t one for May that I have seen though.

Also upcoming dates, themes and challenges:

1-7 May: Rereads
Challenge: Books with 400+ Pages

5-11 June: Catch Up/Finish a Series

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all. As I have already missed Jan, Feb, March and April I will not get all the challenges done, but I hope to participate every month from now on!

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

Upcoming Dates:

May 24-30
June 24-30
July 19-25
August 1-7 or 11-17 (it has two dates on the goodreads pages, so I’m not sure atm)
September 18-24
October 7-13
November 22-28
December 25-31

Challenges to pick from:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Challenges I’m going to try and complete:

Read 1,200 pages – this one should be a little difficult but I like the challenge

Start Or finish a series – this should be easy as there are a couple series I need to finish

A 2017 Debut author – I might do this one for May as I’ve just ordered online Caraval and it should be coming soon, but it will depend on if I can wait till the end of the month to pick it up! Other options I’m considering is Frostblood, Daughter of the Pirate King & The Hate U Give

A Short Story – You could get through a couple short stories in a week easily and feel like you have accomplished heaps! I just don’t know which I would choose

A Graphic Novel – I have never read one before I do want to give it a go, but I just don’t know. If you have suggestions please leave them in the comments! I’m a fantasy reader and I don’t know how that fits into Graphic novels really haha. They are just an unknown for me.

A Non-Fiction Book – I want to read some Non-Fiction World War II stories, so this would be a good opportunity to do that. Any recommendations?!

A Book with multiple Authors – I have These Broken Stars on my TBR shelf and it is by 2 authors, so that is an option I already own.

A book you picked up because of the cover – Well the only books I have done that too that are on my physical TBR shelves is Everything, Everything & These Broken Stars. So this is a maybe as I’m not going to go out a specifically purchase books that just have pretty covers,  I don’t have money to waste like that.

A book that has to do with travelling – This doesn’t say travelling by distance, so I’m going to take this as travelling by time. So some options are Passenger and A Thousand Pieces of You

Challenges I won’t be doing:

A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years – I didn’t have a TBR 2 years ago, so I can’t exactly do this one

Someone else’s favourite book – Nearly every book you read is someone in the world’s favourite. I didn’t really not choose this one for any particular reason, it was just the least interesting to me.

The first book on your shelf you haven’t read – Well I don’t actually know if this means the first book you physically put there that you haven’t read yet or you go along from left to right going down your shelf until you find a book you haven’t read. Either way, I won’t be doing this. If it is my second guess then it will be The Hobbit as I have my TBr separate from books I’ve read on my shelves and by TBR section is in colour order, so it’s the first black book that I haven’t read, so that is what it would be.

Now I want to talk about other ReadAThons that are happening in May that I’m not participating in.

I will not be participating in this even though I really wish I could.

This ReadAThon goes for 3 months! From the 15th of May to the 6th of August.

Required to read in that time:

– Harry Potter Series
– Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
– Hogwarts Library books: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages & The Tales of Beedle the Bard
– Pottermore Short Stories: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardships & Dangerous Hobbies, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics & Pesky Poltergeists & Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide.
– Pottermore Info on Illvermorny
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

Required to watch in that time:

– Harry Potter series
– A Very Potter Musical
– A Very Potter Sequel
– A Very Potter Senior Year
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

So as you can see that is a lot to do, if this was over the year then I would definitely do it. I could do it in a 3 month time frame, but even though I love Harry Potter that is a waste of a 3 reading months in my opinion as this would be all I was reading and wouldn’t have time for too much else. I would probably do this in a year without it being a ReadAThon, but I won’t be doing this challenge. I still wanted to let you know that is is a thing though. There is also challenges and chat time and quizzes and stuff that go along with this ReadAThone and you can find out everything HERE! You can also purchase a handmade bookmark in your house colours with your name on the back and I purchased mine before actually thinking through whether I was going to do this or not. So I’ll still be getting a cool custom bookmark but won’t be participating.
