Well that’s all the ones I can find! I am going to try and participate in #AYearAThon & Winter Biannual Bibliothon, but we will see! I will either be participating in #AYearAThon or Duodecathon this year. But I am waiting to see Duodecathons challenges for the year before I decide and Duodecathon hasn’t announced their dates and challenges yet! Hopefully it will be up by the 1st.

As always if you know of any others that are happening in Jan then please let me know so I can add them!

Header Image (23)

I’m back for another monthly ReadAThon guide! Let’s get into this!

At the moment I am planning on doing Duodecathon!

Blog Title (15)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

So this ReadAThon has 2 parts, first, there is the theme. So the idea is to try and read books related to that theme and then there are the challenges, they are an extra challenge. I am not sure whether you have to try and find a challenge that fits into that month theme or whether you just read two separate books for each.

HERE is a link to their Goodreads page

This ReadAThon happens every month so here are all the future challenges in case you wanted to plan!

Blog Title (51)

Okay, so this looks like a new ReadAThon and there is very little info on it! All I can tell is that it goes for the first week of December, so that would be 1st-7th.

You can find their Twitter HERE!

Blog Title (52)

HarryChristmasToYou is a month long ReadAWatchALongAThon! So basically you read the books and watch the movies! You can read as many of the books as you can in the month! You do not have to read them all, just as much as you can. This might be a time to do a reread using the first 3 illustrated editions seen as Prisoner of Azkaban just came out!

Now I am assuming this will be on this year! There isn’t an announcement video up yet for this year, they still have last years pinned to the top of the page. But there are hints in the other Tweets that it is on. All my information is based on how it has worked in previous years.

For the WatchALongAThon part there will be a different youtuber for each book & movie and they will be posting on Twitter when to watch the movies if you want to watch them at the same time as everyone else.

There is also usually Video challenges, Trivia Nights and a house cup! You can win points from heaps of different things and then everyone in the winning house will go in the draw to win a prize!

You can find their Twitter HERE!

Blog Title (53)

AVeryMerryReadAThon is a christmas themed ReadAThon that is pretty laid back! There are only 3 reading challenges and the ReadAThon goes for 5 days. You can also use one  book for multiple challenges, so if you are really talented you could read 1 book and complete the ReadAThon!

HERE is the announcement post!

The ReadAThon will take place from midnight on the 4th till 11:59pm on the 8th of December.

Challenges:

Read a book that takes place during the holidays
Read a book with a Christmas colour/s on the cover
Read a book just because you want to

You can find their Twitter HERE! And if you are talking about the ReadAThon on Twitter make sure you tag them and use the hashtag #AVeryMerryReadathon on other social media.

Blog Title (54)

Okay, so as far as I can tell this week long ReadAThon is aimed at your currently reading books and trying to get that number down as we go into the new year! So this would be exculsively for people that start multiple books and don’t finish them. I would not be able to participate as I just don’t do that, I’m a one book at a time kind of person. She also said in the announcement that this is a ReadAThon to finally finish those books or DNF them completely. But I’t if it still counts as completing a challenge if you DNF.

The ReadAThon takes place from midnight on the 11th till 11:59pm on the 17th of November.

There are challenges for this ReadAThon but you don’t have to complete them. Obviously, because you are restricted to books you have already started you simply may not have a book that fits a certain challenge, so that is fine. You can also use one book for more than one challenge.

Challenges:

Finish a book that you put down over a year ago
Finish a book you put down sometime this year
Finish a book that you put down at halfway
Finish a book you are actively reading
(so not one that you put down a while ago and just haven’t finished.)
Finish 5 books

You can find their Twitter HERE!

Blog Title (55)

The Cramathon is a week long ReadAThon happening after Christmas and crosses over a little into Janurary! The Cramathon has reading challenges.

The ReadAThon takes place from midnight on the 26th of December and finished at 11:59pm on the 2nd of January.

You can find the Twitter page HERE! Also HERE is Ali’s announcement video!

Reading Challenges:

A book with under 200 pages
A book with LGBTQIAP+ rep
The shortest book on your TBR
A book with your favourite colour on the cover
A book that was gifted to you
One of the hosts’ favourite short books (If you can’t get your hands on one of these then you can choose a book that a friend recommended.)
– The Grownup by Gillian Flynn (64 pages)
– Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott (169 pages)
– George by Alex Gino (208 pages)
– And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrick Backman (96 pages)
Read 7 books.

Blog Title (56)

This is a month long ReadAThon, but I would actually call it a challenge too. Basically all you have to do is try and read as many diverse books as possible in the month of December. You don’t have to read only diverse books but the challenge is just here to encourage you to read more diverse books!

HERE is the announcement post on Books & Munches Blog!

All you have to do is make a blog post saying you are participating and your possible reads! Pretty simple right?! Make sure you use the hashtag #diversedecember when posting on social media.

Blog Title (58)

This ReadAThon is a 12 day ‘choose your own adventure’ ReadAThon with so much going on!! But I will get to all that!

This ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 13th to 11:59pm on the 24th of December!

Firstly there are challenges! This works in a map system similar to the map of the Scallywagathon! So you start at the bottom and when you reach the top you have finished! There are signposts all over the map which have challenges on them. Whenever you get to one, that is the challenge you complete. Some of the signposts are on intersections and you have a choice of which path (and challenge) to take. I will insert the map below. There are also 2 examples in their blog post if you wish to see them.

**All pictures are from novelthoughts.co**

Xmas_Readathon_Map

** Save the photo and zoom in if you are having trouble reading the signposts**

As you can see, there are only single words on the signposts. Each of them links to a challenge which you can find in the image below.

IMG_0328

Depending on which path you take you will land on 1 of 4 characters. These characters match 1 of the 4 ‘houses’ which you are part of for the House Cup part if you wish to take place, this is optional.

Make sure you post a TBR on your blog or social media and say if you are participating in the House Cup challenge and which ‘house’ you are in. Use the tag #holidayadventureathon when posting your TBR! There are 4 separate hashtags for each of the houses to share just with your house! They are #holidaypenguin #holidayreindeer #holidayelf & #holdaysnowman

There are heaps of ways to earn posts for your house! I will copy and past them direct from the AdventureAThon post below!

  • Posting YouTube videos about your readathon experience. (20p)
Can be: TBR videos, reading updates, daily or weekly vlogs, wrap up videos.
  • Posting blogs about your readathon experience. (20p)
Can be: TBR posts, reading updates, wrap ups.
  • Posting photos of your TBR or reading progress. (10p)

  • Tweeting about the readathon. (10p) (MAX 12)
Tweet with the hashtag #holidayadventureathon and your team hashtag so that we can find your posts. Only one Tweet per day will count points towards your team.
  • Participating in Twitter sprints. (5p)

  • The number of pages you read. (1p)
1 point will be awarded for every 1 page you read. Audiobooks are also counted.
  • Finishing books. (200p)
  • Completing readathon challenges. (100p)
  • Completing your entire readathon path. (500p)

There is a FAQ section on the post too if you have any other questions or comment on their post!! You can find their announcement post HERE and you can find their Twitter HERE!

Blog Title (3)

This ReadAThon focuses on f/f romances and the only rule is to read books with f/f romances that involve the MC! This ReadAThon has a bingo board of challenges! You can use 1 book for more than 1 challenge too.

The ReadAThon goes for 2 weeks and starts at midnight on the 14th and finishes at 11:59pm on the 28th of December!

Read-A-Thon Guide – November 2017

Header Image (9)

I’m back for another monthly ReadAThon guide! Let’s get into this!

At the moment I am planning on doing the Read-A-Thin & Duodecathon. I will have TBRs out before both start!

6-12 November: New to you authors
Challenge: Read A Duology

4-10 December: 2017 Debuts
Read the last book (or books) you bought

Blog Title (16).png

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all.

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

UPCOMING DATES:

November 22-28
December 25-31

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Blog Title (17).png

This is an 8 day ReadAThon going from midnight on the 23rd to 11:59pm on the 30th of November. This ReadAThon has a heap of challenges and all you have to do is pick 4 and try and complete them! Of course, you can complete less or more than that though, just set yourself a goal and go for it!! Because there are so many challenges I’m not going to type them all out, so I will just leave a link to the Google Doc with the challenges!

HERE is the Twitter account!

Blog Title (18)

This ReadAThon is held from midnight on the 3rd to 11:59 on the 5th of November.

You can find the announcement video from BrunetteBibliophile HERE! You can find their Twitter HERE!

There is a giveaway going on with this ReadAThon too! Check out the description in the announcement video for how to enter!

Reading Challenges:

1. Read a book with a fall connection
2. Read a book with the letters R/A/M/A in the title or authors name
3. Read 3 books

Blog Title (19).png

This is an awesome ReadAThon that encourages you to borrow books! So the main challenge is to read books that you borrowed, whether that be from a friend or from a library!

BorrowAThon is happening from midnight on the 5th to 11:59pm on the 12th of Nov!

You can find an announcement video HERE that’s by one of the co-hosts! And you can find there Twitter HERE!

There are also 6 optional reading challenges for this ReadAThon and they are:

1. Give an Author a second chance
2. Start a new-to-you series
3. Read a book with 5 or more words in the title
4. Read a 2017 release
5. Read a book you find in a #LibraryHaul
6. Read a book that features a library

Blog Title (20).png

This is a month long ReadAThon where you concentrate on thinning out your TBR pile! So there is one rule for this ReadAThon and that is to read books that are already on your physical or digial TBR (this means eBooks, not on your Goodreads TBR)! So that means no buying books to fit the challenges and no borrowing new books from the library. If you have already borrowed a book from the library then you can use it, but no new ones!

There is only one exception to the rule and that is for the challenge ‘Listen to an audiobook of a book you own’. I will explain it now. This challenge requires you to listen to the audiobook of a book you already physically or digitally own (eBooks). So you can buy this audiobook or borrow it from the library. But you must already own a copy!

So as I said this ReadAThon goes for the entirety of November!

You can find the Read-A-Thin Goodreads page HERE. All three of the hosts have done announcement posts/videos. You can find Chelsea’s blog post HERE, Jessica’s youtube video HERE & Amanda’s post HERE!

You can use 1 book for 2 challenges but no more than that! So you could read 9 books and complete all the challenges! Or you can just pick a few, but the goal (challenge 18) is to read at least 4 books in the month!

Reading Challenges:

1. Read a 2017 release
2. Read a diverse book
3. Read a book that is related to your favourite emoji
4. Read a book with a fall themed cover
5. Start and finish a series
6. Read a book in 24 hours
7. Read a new to you author
8. Buddy read a book
9. Read a horror/thriller
10. Read a book outside of your favourite genre
11. Read an eBook
12. Listen to an audiobook of a book you own
13. Read a book that counts toward another readathon
14. Read a book that is due back to the library the soonest
15. Read a book you ended up putting down previously
16. Read a book you got from a subscription box
17. Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway, etc)
18. Read 4 books (At least 8 challenges)

Blog Title (27)

Okay, so this is a really fun looking ReadAThon and I’m thinking about adding it into my crazy November!!

This ReadAThon starts at midnight on the 5th of November & ends at 11:59 on the 11th of November. There is alsoa Pirates of the Caribbean WatchALong happening from the 12th to the 18th.

You can watch Ali’s video HERE for a whole in depth desrciption of the ReadAThon along with an example TBR but I am going to try and explain it!

Firstly, the map!

*This was taken from the link in Ali’s video.*

scallywagathon

Okay, so how this map works is firstly you pick a number between 1 & 5. Once you pick your starting point you follow the corresponding coloured line to the next challenge. Most of them have more than one option you can choose from. Then when you get to your first stop you then follow that number or letter’s correspoding coloured line to the next challenge until you get to the treasure chest. All of the tracks you take will have 4 challenges but if you finish those 4 in the week you are welcome to continue onto any of the other challenges you wish.
So, here is an example of how to navigate the map. I am going to start at 1, from there I will follow the dark purple line to 6, from there I will follow the orange line to A and then from A I will follow the dark blue line to 9 and then to the treasure! Hopefully that makes sense.

When you complete the 4 challenges you can enter your email in the link on Ali’s video to get some free printables from Ali!

Okay, next is the Pirates of the Caribbean WatchALong. Here is a calendar that can be downloaded from the link in Ali’s video. It has the dates on the sides for each of the movie WatchALongs. However follow Ali on Twitter as she will be announcing closer to the date the times that they will be watching each movie.

scallywagathon (1)

And finally she is holding a giveaway! All you have to do is post your TBR to either YouTube, Blog or Tumblr and leave the link in the comments of Ali’s video. Also make sure you leave a way for Ali to contact you in your TBR post.

If you know of any other ReadAThons then please comment or tag me on Twitter in their post! @duskangelreads !!

Read-A-Thons Guide – End of April & May

Header Image (6)

So there is a couple Read-A-Thons coming up that I want to participate in and I just wanted to talk about them! I will do another one of these at the end of May for the ReadAThons starting in June & continue this throughout the year.

Blog Titles (6)

So this one is coming up at the end of April and I will definitely be participating in this one!

This is a ReadAThon that goes for 24 hours! There is no reading challenges, you just read as much as you can in that time. What is different about this ReadAThon is that it doesn’t start at midnight in your timezone, it starts at the exact same time no matter where you are in the world! So if you are interested in participating HERE is a link to find out when it starts in your timezone

For me in Australia is starts at 10pm on the 29th of April and finishes at 10pm on the 30th of April.

Find more info HERE and Sign-Ups are HERE!

For this one I will be posting a TBR on the day before this one as there is no reading challenges it will just depend on where I’m up to at the time!

Blog Titles (7)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read. In May the aim is to ReRead books! I don’t know what exactly I want to ReRead yet but I will also post a TBR for this one closer to the date. Also each month there is a challenge and May’s challenge is to read books that are 400+ pages (this is optional I believe).

You can find their Goodreads group HERE!

This one runs from midnight in your timezone on the 1st of May until 11:59pm on the 7th of May.

For this one there is also sometimes group reads. There isn’t one for May that I have seen though.

Also upcoming dates, themes and challenges:

1-7 May: Rereads
Challenge: Books with 400+ Pages

5-11 June: Catch Up/Finish a Series
Challenge: Read a Book with a Character your age

3-9 July: Translations
Challenge: Read books from the year you were born

7-13 August: Childhood Favourites
Challenge: Marathon a Series

4-10 September: Standalones
Challenge: One Word Titles

2-8 October: LGBTQIA+ Books
Challenge: Read Poetry & Short Stories

6-12 November: New to you authors
Challenge: Read A Duology

4-10 December: 2017 Debuts
Read the last book (or books) you bought

Blog Titles (10)

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all. As I have already missed Jan, Feb, March and April I will not get all the challenges done, but I hope to participate every month from now on!

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

Upcoming Dates:

May 24-30
June 24-30
July 19-25
August 1-7 or 11-17 (it has two dates on the goodreads pages, so I’m not sure atm)
September 18-24
October 7-13
November 22-28
December 25-31

Challenges to pick from:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Challenges I’m going to try and complete:

Read 1,200 pages – this one should be a little difficult but I like the challenge

Start Or finish a series – this should be easy as there are a couple series I need to finish

A 2017 Debut author – I might do this one for May as I’ve just ordered online Caraval and it should be coming soon, but it will depend on if I can wait till the end of the month to pick it up! Other options I’m considering is Frostblood, Daughter of the Pirate King & The Hate U Give

A Short Story – You could get through a couple short stories in a week easily and feel like you have accomplished heaps! I just don’t know which I would choose

A Graphic Novel – I have never read one before I do want to give it a go, but I just don’t know. If you have suggestions please leave them in the comments! I’m a fantasy reader and I don’t know how that fits into Graphic novels really haha. They are just an unknown for me.

A Non-Fiction Book – I want to read some Non-Fiction World War II stories, so this would be a good opportunity to do that. Any recommendations?!

A Book with multiple Authors – I have These Broken Stars on my TBR shelf and it is by 2 authors, so that is an option I already own.

A book you picked up because of the cover – Well the only books I have done that too that are on my physical TBR shelves is Everything, Everything & These Broken Stars. So this is a maybe as I’m not going to go out a specifically purchase books that just have pretty covers,  I don’t have money to waste like that.

A book that has to do with travelling – This doesn’t say travelling by distance, so I’m going to take this as travelling by time. So some options are Passenger and A Thousand Pieces of You

Challenges I won’t be doing:

A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years – I didn’t have a TBR 2 years ago, so I can’t exactly do this one

Someone else’s favourite book – Nearly every book you read is someone in the world’s favourite. I didn’t really not choose this one for any particular reason, it was just the least interesting to me.

The first book on your shelf you haven’t read – Well I don’t actually know if this means the first book you physically put there that you haven’t read yet or you go along from left to right going down your shelf until you find a book you haven’t read. Either way, I won’t be doing this. If it is my second guess then it will be The Hobbit as I have my TBr separate from books I’ve read on my shelves and by TBR section is in colour order, so it’s the first black book that I haven’t read, so that is what it would be.

Now I want to talk about other ReadAThons that are happening in May that I’m not participating in.

I will not be participating in this even though I really wish I could.

This ReadAThon goes for 3 months! From the 15th of May to the 6th of August.

Required to read in that time:

– Harry Potter Series
– Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
– Hogwarts Library books: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages & The Tales of Beedle the Bard
– Pottermore Short Stories: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardships & Dangerous Hobbies, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics & Pesky Poltergeists & Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide.
– Pottermore Info on Illvermorny
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

Required to watch in that time:

– Harry Potter series
– A Very Potter Musical
– A Very Potter Sequel
– A Very Potter Senior Year
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

So as you can see that is a lot to do, if this was over the year then I would definitely do it. I could do it in a 3 month time frame, but even though I love Harry Potter that is a waste of a 3 reading months in my opinion as this would be all I was reading and wouldn’t have time for too much else. I would probably do this in a year without it being a ReadAThon, but I won’t be doing this challenge. I still wanted to let you know that is is a thing though. There is also challenges and chat time and quizzes and stuff that go along with this ReadAThone and you can find out everything HERE! You can also purchase a handmade bookmark in your house colours with your name on the back and I purchased mine before actually thinking through whether I was going to do this or not. So I’ll still be getting a cool custom bookmark but won’t be participating.
