Scallywagathon Round 2 TBR

Header Image (5)

Okay, so some of you may remember me participating in round 1 back in November and guess what it is happening again! This ReadAThon was not on my May ReadAThon Guide as it was only announced 2 days ago. I am going to copy and paste the info section from my the round 1 TBR as it is all working the same, the only difference is the challenges. This ReadAThon is pretty complex and can be confusing, so I hope my explanation helps you!

Blog titles (22)

This ReadAThon starts at midnight on the 20th of May & ends at 11:59 on the 27th of May.

You can watch Ali’s video HERE for a whole in depth desrciption of the ReadAThon along with an example TBR but I am going to try and explain it!

Firstly, the map!

*This was taken from the link in Ali’s video.*

Screen Shot 2018-05-13 at 11.51.58 am

Every number and letter on the map corresponds to a challenge in the graphic below!
Okay, so how this map works is first you pick a number between 1 & 5. Once you pick your starting point you follow the corresponding coloured line to the next challenge. Most of them have more than one option you can choose from. Then when you get to your first stop you then follow that number or letter’s corresponding coloured line to the next challenge until you get to the treasure chest. All of the tracks you take will have 4 challenges but if you finish those 4 in the week you are welcome to continue onto any of the other challenges you wish.
So, here is an example of how to navigate the map. I am going to start at 1, from there I will follow the dark purple line to 6, from there I will follow the orange line to A and then from A I will follow the dark blue line to 9 and then to the treasure! Hopefully, that makes sense.

The path I will be following is:

5 > 8 > A > 9

5: Calm before the storm – The first in a series

A Shot in the Dark by Lynne Truss

9781408890493.jpg

This is an Adult Mystery that I received an ARC of and need to read by the end of June. This one comes out 28th of June in Aus.

8: Yo Ho Ho! – Book that starts with ‘RRRRRR’

Rise of Fire by Sophie Jordan

61FNM2HnNyL._SL500_

This is the second book in the Reign of Shadows duology. I listened to Reign of Shadows a while ago and really enjoyed it! Reign of Shadows is a dark Rapunzel retelling and it ended on a rather large cliffhanger so I’m keen to continue.

A: Marooned: Standalone

Endless Night by Agatha Christie

51vkX3TwXUL._SL500_

There is a heap of Agatha Christie books on Scribd, so I hunted through her standalones and came up with this one!

9: Blow down the man – A book by a woman author

The Theft and the Miracle by Rebecca Wade

y450-293 (4)

This is one of the books I am reading for the Book to School challenge. It is also by a female author, so perfect!!

Are You Reading More Than A 5th Grader? ReadAThon TBR

Header Image (2)

Okay, so you may have seen my TBR for the Book To School Challenge over at TBR and Beyond on Facebook! Well alongside that challenge they have a week-long ReadAThon going on to help us get those Book To School TBRs complete!! I thought I would share my TBR here!!

If you want to join in! Head over to TBR and Beyond and press join!! It is a super fun group with heaps of things going on! We even have author chats coming up in the next few months!

Blog titles (2)

So as there are no challenges, I don’t have a definite TBR, but these are the books that I hope to have finished by the end of the ReadAThon!

So I plan to read 6 books. 3 audiobooks and 3 books. I have already started Dragon on Trial and Beneath the Sugar Sky so I may have finished them before the readathon or at least read a fair chunk of them. They are both really short, so I probably will get them finished beforehand.
Krakens and Lies is pretty short too, but I want to continue the Menagerie series as it has been awesome so far!
Mark of the Thief is one of the books on my Book To School TBR, so I need to get to it!
Snow Like Ashes is the BOTM for the Facebook group I run, The YA Book Nerds, so I need to get on that reread so I can write the discussion questions.
Lastly, Whisper is an eARC I have, however, the book is already out and I bought myself a physical copy yesterday when I saw it at Kmart. So hopefully I love it or that will be a waste of money! I have high hopes as I loved The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni!

You can find the ReadAThon Twitter HERE!

The Buzzword ReadAThon

This ReadAThon is being hosted by Lala of BooksandLala on Youtube! This ReadAThon will be happening recurringly, they haven’t announced how often as yet though. The idea is that each round will have a Buzzword picked by the hosts and all the books you read have to be based on that buzzword. For this, the buzzword actually has to be in the title of the book, not just in the info about the book.
If you don’t know what Buzzword means, it is basically a word that is mentioned in the title or description about a book makes you definitely want to pick that book up. So it’s a category/thing that is something that really interests you and you love reading about. Some examples, my mum loves everything with Dragons, so her Buzzword is dragons. Cat @ Little Book Owl on YouTube’s Buzzword is Assassins.

The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 7th of May till 11:59 pm on the 13th of May.

For this round, the Buzzword is “GIRL“. In the description of BooksandLala’s announcement video, she leaves a link with ideas of books with “Girl” in the title and she has also asked people to comment with recommendations of books with “Girl” in the title.
They are also having a group read which you can choose to participate in.

There will be live shows held before & at the end of the ReadAThon. The first Live show is on May 6th @ 1:00pm PST with BooksandLala & DylantheReader5 on BooksandLala’s channel & the second will be in the evening on the 13th of May on BooksandLala’s Instagram.

Make sure you use the hashtag #BuzzWordReadAThon on all social media posts!

Group Read:

Undead Girl Gang by Lily Anderson
Young Adult Fantasy Mystery

You can find Books and Lala’s announcement video HERE & the ReadAThon Twitter HERE!

MusicAThon

This one is a music-themed ReadAThon happening at the end of the month! There will be challenges and also a giveaway happening but no info has been posted yet.

The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 21st of May till 11:59 pm on the 27th of May.

You can find the ReadAThons Twitter HERE to keep up with the upcoming info!

Moody May 2018

This is a month long ReadAThon held by fellow blogger Kathy @ Books & Munches! This goal of this ReadAThon/challenge is for the whole month you do not set a TBR, don’t make a list of books that you have to read and don’t pressure yourself! It is all about picking up what book you feel like reading at the time!

Rules:

The main rule is to NOT post a TBR! You still have to make a post/tweet/whatever saying you will join but no TBRs for May! You can post a full list of all the books on your physical/eBook/audiobook TBR, or maybe even a list of books you should be reading in May (eg. ARCs) but won’t be worrying about thanks to Moody May!
If you are talking about Moody May on Social Media use the hashtag #MoodyMayBM

Check out Kathy’s announcement post HERE!! Also just follow her as she is always holding awesome ReadAThons and challenges!

Magical ReadAThon TBR!

New Header Image (14).jpg

Okay, so this is a Harry Potter themed ReadAThon that sounds like tonnes of fun! I will copy and paste the info I used on my Monthly ReadAThon Guide for how this ReadAThon works as it is unique! As this is a 4 week ReadAThon is does cross over with the two monthly ReadAThons I always participate in, Duodecathon & #AYearAThon.

Magical ReadAThon goes from 2nd till 29th. The #AYearAThon goes from 2nd to 8th & Duodecathon is from 8th to 14th. I will post separate TBRs for each so it doesn’t get confusing in one post.

Untitled design (13)

Copied from my April ReadAThon Guide

This is a 4 week long ReadAThon that is based on Harry Potter and when I discovered this I was like yes bitch I’m joining!! Anyway, this ReadAThon is based on the OWL (Ordinary Wizarding Level) exams at Hogwarts. So basically there are challenges for each of the 12 school subjects that Hogwarts students could take. So each challenge you complete is 1 OWL. You cannot double up challenges, so 1 book per challenge!  You complete challenges and strive for the highest overall OWL grade. Unlike the books you don’t get an OWL grade for each subject, you just get an OWL for each completed subject challenge and depending on how many OWLs you get overall a corresponding grade is awarded. You can see the grades below.

Grades:

Fail Grades:
T = Troll: Did not show up at your OWL examinations (Didn’t start a challenge)
D = Dreadful: Start but not finished an OWL task
P = Poor: Sit only 1 OWL

Pass Grades:
A = Acceptable: Sit (and pass) at least 2 OWLs (complete 2 challenges)
E = Exceeds Expectations: Sit (and pass) at least 3 OWLs (complete 3 challenges)
O = Outstanding: Sit (and pass) at least 5 OWLs (complete 5 challenges)

Subjects & Challenges:

Ancient Runes – A book with a symbol on the cover
Arithmancy – Read a book with a number on the cover or in the title
Astronomy – Read a Sci-Fi Book
Care of Magical Creatures – Read a book that includes Magical Creatures OR Features a Magical Creature on the Cover
Charms – Read a Fantasy Book
Defence Against the Dark Arts – Read a book about/featuring secret societies/clubs
