ScallyWagAThon TBR

Header Image (12).jpg

Okay, so I am utterly fucking crazy! This will be ReadAThon number 4 in November. You can find my #HouseCupReadingChallenge TBR HERE & Read-A-Thin HERE if you wanted to know about those. My TBR for Duodecathon will be up closer to the dates of it.

Okay, so as this was a late announcement and it didn’t make it onto my November Reading Guide till about half an hour ago I am going to put all the info below. I’ll just copy and paste it straight from my guide! If you already know then just skip the the ‘My TBR’ header.

Blog Title (28)

Okay, so this is a really fun looking ReadAThon and I’m thinking about adding it into my crazy November!!

This ReadAThon starts at midnight on the 5th of November & ends at 11:59 on the 11th of November. There is alsoa Pirates of the Caribbean WatchALong happening from the 12th to the 18th.

You can watch Ali’s video HERE for a whole in depth desrciption of the ReadAThon along with an example TBR but I am going to try and explain it!

Firstly, the map!

*This was taken from the link in Ali’s video.*

scallywagathon

Okay, so how this map works is firstly you pick a number between 1 & 5. Once you pick your starting point you follow the corresponding coloured line to the next challenge. Most of them have more than one option you can choose from. Then when you get to your first stop you then follow that number or letter’s correspoding coloured line to the next challenge until you get to the treasure chest. All of the tracks you take will have 4 challenges but if you finish those 4 in the week you are welcome to continue onto any of the other challenges you wish.
So, here is an example of how to navigate the map. I am going to start at 1, from there I will follow the dark purple line to 6, from there I will follow the orange line to A and then from A I will follow the dark blue line to 9 and then to the treasure! Hopefully that makes sense.

When you complete the 4 challenges you can enter your email in the link on Ali’s video to get some free printables from Ali!

Okay, next is the Pirates of the Caribbean WatchALong. Here is a calendar that can be downloaded from the link in Ali’s video. It has the dates on the sides for each of the movie WatchALongs. However follow Ali on Twitter as she will be announcing closer to the date the times that they will be watching each movie.

scallywagathon (1)

And finally she is holding a giveaway! All you have to do is post your TBR to either YouTube, Blog or Tumblr and leave the link in the comments of Ali’s video. Also make sure you leave a way for Ali to contact you in your TBR post.

8: Tell it to the parrot – Over hyped book

November Read-A-Thin TBR

Header Image (3)

I have decided to participate in Read-A-Thin! This ReadAThon goes for the whole of November and concentrates on thinning out your TBR pile!

The only rule is that you have to use books you already own or have already borrowed from the library. You can’t buy or borrow a book for the challenge.

Find the Read-A-Thon Goodreads group HERE!

You can use 1 book for up to 2 challenges! I have done that a bit as you will see.

Blog Title (21).png

16. Read a book you got from a subscription box

9781101916681

17. Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway, etc.)

18. Read 4 books

Well if I read all of those, then that will be more than 4 books.

As this ReadAThon crosses over with 12 days of the House Cup Reading Challenge so of these books also count for that. Those include Gemina, And I Darken, Warcross and Mask of Shadows. Well, that is all for my TBR.

Let me know if you are participating! What’s on your TBR?!

Read-A-Thon Guide – November 2017

Header Image (9)

I’m back for another monthly ReadAThon guide! Let’s get into this!

At the moment I am planning on doing the Read-A-Thin & Duodecathon. I will have TBRs out before both start!

Blog Title (15)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

So this ReadAThon has 2 parts, first, there is the theme. So the idea is to try and read books related to that theme and then there are the challenges, they are an extra challenge. I am not sure whether you have to try and find a challenge that fits into that month theme or whether you just read two separate books for each.

HERE is a link to their Goodreads page

This ReadAThon happens every month so here are all the future challenges in case you wanted to plan!

6-12 November: New to you authors
Challenge: Read A Duology

4-10 December: 2017 Debuts
Read the last book (or books) you bought

Blog Title (16).png

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all.

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

UPCOMING DATES:

November 22-28
December 25-31

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Blog Title (17).png

This is an 8 day ReadAThon going from midnight on the 23rd to 11:59pm on the 30th of November. This ReadAThon has a heap of challenges and all you have to do is pick 4 and try and complete them! Of course, you can complete less or more than that though, just set yourself a goal and go for it!! Because there are so many challenges I’m not going to type them all out, so I will just leave a link to the Google Doc with the challenges!

HERE is the Twitter account!

Blog Title (18)

This ReadAThon is held from midnight on the 3rd to 11:59 on the 5th of November.

You can find the announcement video from BrunetteBibliophile HERE! You can find their Twitter HERE!

There is a giveaway going on with this ReadAThon too! Check out the description in the announcement video for how to enter!

Reading Challenges:

1. Read a book with a fall connection
2. Read a book with the letters R/A/M/A in the title or authors name
3. Read 3 books

Blog Title (19).png

This is an awesome ReadAThon that encourages you to borrow books! So the main challenge is to read books that you borrowed, whether that be from a friend or from a library!

BorrowAThon is happening from midnight on the 5th to 11:59pm on the 12th of Nov!

You can find an announcement video HERE that’s by one of the co-hosts! And you can find there Twitter HERE!

There are also 6 optional reading challenges for this ReadAThon and they are:

1. Give an Author a second chance
2. Start a new-to-you series
3. Read a book with 5 or more words in the title
4. Read a 2017 release
5. Read a book you find in a #LibraryHaul
6. Read a book that features a library

Blog Title (20).png

This is a month long ReadAThon where you concentrate on thinning out your TBR pile! So there is one rule for this ReadAThon and that is to read books that are already on your physical or digial TBR (this means eBooks, not on your Goodreads TBR)! So that means no buying books to fit the challenges and no borrowing new books from the library. If you have already borrowed a book from the library then you can use it, but no new ones!

There is only one exception to the rule and that is for the challenge ‘Listen to an audiobook of a book you own’. I will explain it now. This challenge requires you to listen to the audiobook of a book you already physically or digitally own (eBooks). So you can buy this audiobook or borrow it from the library. But you must already own a copy!

So as I said this ReadAThon goes for the entirety of November!

You can find the Read-A-Thin Goodreads page HERE. All three of the hosts have done announcement posts/videos. You can find Chelsea’s blog post HERE, Jessica’s youtube video HERE & Amanda’s post HERE!

You can use 1 book for 2 challenges but no more than that! So you could read 9 books and complete all the challenges! Or you can just pick a few, but the goal (challenge 18) is to read at least 4 books in the month!

Reading Challenges:

1. Read a 2017 release
2. Read a diverse book
3. Read a book that is related to your favourite emoji
4. Read a book with a fall themed cover
5. Start and finish a series
6. Read a book in 24 hours
7. Read a new to you author
8. Buddy read a book
9. Read a horror/thriller
10. Read a book outside of your favourite genre
11. Read an eBook
12. Listen to an audiobook of a book you own
13. Read a book that counts toward another readathon
14. Read a book that is due back to the library the soonest
15. Read a book you ended up putting down previously
16. Read a book you got from a subscription box
17. Read a book you got for free (gift, ARC, giveaway, etc)
18. Read 4 books (At least 8 challenges)

Read-A-Thon Guide – October 2017

Copy of Review Banner (10)

I’m back for another monthly ReadAThon guide! Let’s get into this!

At the moment I am only planning on doing the Duodecathon. If I am going to participate I will do a TBR before that ReadAThon before it starts.

I am predicting before searching that most of these will be Halloween themed.

Review Titles (16)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

So this ReadAThon has 2 parts, first, there is the theme. So the idea is to try and read books related to that theme and then there are the challenges, they are an extra challenge. I am not sure whether you have to try and find a challenge that fits into that month theme or whether you just read two separate books for each.

HERE is a link to their Goodreads page

This ReadAThon happens every month so here are all the future challenges in case you wanted to plan!

2-8 October: LGBTQIA+ Books
Challenge: Read Poetry & Short Stories

6-12 November: New to you authors
Challenge: Read A Duology

4-10 December: 2017 Debuts
Read the last book (or books) you bought

Review Titles (15)

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all.

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

For August there are 2 ReadAThon dates and I’m assuming that is because there wasn’t a ReadAThon date for January. I will only be participating in one and that will be the 11-17 one.

UPCOMING DATES:

October 7-13
November 22-28
December 25-31

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Review Titles (17)

So this isn’t a ReadAThon is like a MovieAThon. But I thought I would put it in anyway.

So this is on the 28th of October and you just watch along with everyone participating.

You can find the movie list HERE along with the link for where you can watch on the day.

Review Titles (18).png

So for this one each round of the ReadAThon you have to read books or authors (first or last) starting with a certain letter.

For this month the letter is D.

This round the ReadAThon goes from the 23rd of October to 29th of October.

You can find their Twitter HERE and their blog post HERE!

Review Titles (19).png

This one is exactly how it sounds! You have 24 Hours to read as much as possible. What’s unique about this book is that this ReadAThon starts at the same time worldwide rather than at a certain time in your time zone.

And you know what else is super cool? The October ReadAthon marks the 10 year anniversary of the event!

In October it is happening on the 21st.

To find out what time the ReadAThon starts for you then go HERE and it will tell you so you don’t have to figure it out.

There is also a 30 Days of ReadAThon challenge going on for the 10 year anniversary and you can find more info HERE!

And you can find their Twitter HERE.

Review Titles (20)

So this is being run by Empty Shelfie. This is a month long ReadAThon where there are 7 reading challenges. You can complete as many as you like though. The only rule to this ReadAThon is you must read books you already own or have checked out of the library. The idea of this ReadAThon is exactly as the name suggests, to empty your shelves. So you can’t go out and buy a book specifically for any of the challenges. That is also why they don’t say that you have to complete all the challenges because you just may not have a book that fits that challenges already on your shelf. Oh, and btw any eBook & audiobooks you own count too!

So there is also a whole lot more going on in the month of October for the Spookie Shelfie such as Instagram challenges, BookTube challenges, Movie WathALongs, Reading Sprints & Author Pep Talks. There are also going to be prizes for some things and the prizes will be ‘spookie’ themed.

You can watch the announcement video HERE. It’s not the best quality video when it comes to audio and I had trouble understanding some of what was said, so check out HarbackHoarder’s announcement video. She is one of the hosts and explains it really well. You can also find the Reading challenges announcement video HERE! Again the video is kinda bad audio quality so I watched Libri Labra’s TBR video and got the challenges from there. She is one of the hosts so I’m assuming they are correct haha. You can find her video HERE if you want to watch it. Their YouTube Channel HERE! Their Twitter HERE! Their Goodreads HERE!

Reading Challenges:

Read a book that will probably give you nightmares
Read a book with a serial killer in it
Read a book with a freakish character
Read a book with orange or black on the cover
Read a book with a spell or curse
Read a book with a mask on the cover or the word “mask” in the title
Read a book with supernatural or paranormal elements

Review Titles (21)

SpookAThon is a week long ReadAThon that starts on the 16th at midnight till 11:59pm on the 22nd of October in your time zone.

SpookAThon Twitter page.

You can find announcement posts on Paige’s Pages, Bookerly & BooksandLala

Reading Challenges:

Read a thriller
Read a book that is based off of a childhood fear
Read a book with orange on the cover
Read a book with a spooky word in the title
Read a book with a spooky setting.

There is also a ReadALong book that you can choose to read and that is A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena. You can win a copy of this book before the ReadAThon if you comment on any or all of the hosts announcement videos which I linked above.

419Wfo0rCdL._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_

There is also a month long Instagram challenge which is being put up on Kayla’s Instagram: BooksandLala. It is not up currently I don’t think (well I couldn’t find it), so follow her so you don’t miss it.

Okay, so I think that is all. But as always if you know any other ReadAThons happening in October then please comment or tag me in it on Twitter!

September 2017 Duodecathon Wrap Up

Copy of Review Banner (7)

So I didn’t read too much during the Duodecathon this time but I completed 1 challenge, so I’m happy with that. On the weekend I was helping my dad a fair bit and then went out on Saturday night too and then went to bed pretty early on Sunday as I only got 2 and a half hours sleep on Saturday, so I did absolutely no reading on the weekend. So this is what I read for the first 5 days of the ReadAthon.

Rainbow ReadAThon Wrap Up

More Header Image (5)

So I’m actually starting writing this book with about an hour left of the Rainbow ReadAThon in my time zone. But I have completed all the reading challenges and I have some free time, so I’m writing this now!

I read/listened to 7 books during this ReadAThon & also started another. I didn’t fully stick to my TBR, but oh well, I still finished all the challenges haha.

You can find my TBR HERE if you were interested!

Also, I didn’t follow the order we were kind meant to follow, but don’t really care. I needed to read certain books first because of #TheReadingQuest.

White

29854115195_4be5dac487_z

Yes, this is more grey, but I don’t care haha. I was trying to find an audiobook that was short (so I could finish it tonight) that was also a thriller (to finish the last square in the Summer Bookish Bingo) with a white cover (for Rainbow ReadAThon) & this was the closest I could find.

COVER THAT MATCHES YOUR HOGWARTS HOUSE COLOUR (GRYFFINDOR)

So that is all for my Rainbow ReadAThon Wrap Up! I completed all 7 challenges which I’m really happy with! I also read about 20% of The Mime Order during this ReadAthon. The Mime Order was originally meant to be my White book but as it’s such a big book and it’s not a quick read either, I knew I wasn’t going to get it finished by tonight, so I picked The Dispatcher instead.

Did you participate? How did you go!?!? Let me know in the comments!

Read-A-Thon Guide – September 2017

More Header Image (3)

This is my guide for the Read-A-Thons happening in September! I couldn’t find a tonne for September but if you know of any others happening please let me know and I will update the post!

At the moment I am only planning on doing the Duodecathon. If I am going to participate I will do a TBR before that ReadAThon before it starts.

Blog Titles (52)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

So this ReadAThon has 2 parts, first, there is the theme. So the idea is to try and read books related to that theme and then there are the challenges, they are an extra challenge. I am not sure whether you have to try and find a challenge that fits into that month theme or whether you just read two separate books for each.

HERE is a link to their Goodreads page

This ReadAThon happens every month so here are all the future challenges in case you wanted to plan!

4-10 September: Standalones
Challenge: One Word Titles

2-8 October: LGBTQIA+ Books
Challenge: Read Poetry & Short Stories

6-12 November: New to you authors
Challenge: Read A Duology

4-10 December: 2017 Debuts
Read the last book (or books) you bought

Blog Titles (51)

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all.

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

For August there are 2 ReadAThon dates and I’m assuming that is because there wasn’t a ReadAThon date for January. I will only be participating in one and that will be the 11-17 one.

UPCOMING DATES:

September 18-24
October 7-13
November 22-28
December 25-31

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Blog Titles (86)

This is a fairly chill ReadAThon! Firstly the only rule is that you have to read only fantasy books! There is reading challenges, however, you just choose however many you want to do, you can choose to do 1 or all 5! There is also photo challenges which you can post to Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr and possibly win a giveaway for doing so (each photo is one entry)!

You can find the creators Twitter HERE & the announcement post HERE.

Dates: 4th – 10th of September

Reading Challenges:

– Read a blue fantasy book. Any amount of blue will do!
– Read a swashbuckling fantasy novel! Think The Three Musketeers or The Princess Bride.
– Read a fantasy book that reminds you of Fall. Maybe this book gives you cosy Fall feelings, maybe the cover has Fall colours, or it could take place in the Fall…
– Read a classic fantasy book! Specifically, anything written before the 1980s. Think LOTR, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Once and Future King, The Earthsea Cycle, The Neverending Story, The Sword of Shannara, etc.
– Read a fantasy book with wings on the cover.

So as far as I can tell with this one the only rule is to read books that you wanted to read last year but never got to! I don’t think there is reading challenges!

Dates: 8th – 11th September

Find their Twitter HERE!

*Firstly, yes I have slightly changed the graphic between when I originally made this post and this update*

This is a month long ReadAThon hosted by Books & Munches here on WordPress. So the only rule to this ReadAThon is to read sequels!

All you have to do to participate is make a blog post with the books that you will possibly read during Septemeber, so basically a list of the Sequels you own that you have already read the first book to. Make sure you link back to Books & Munches announcement post!

There isn’t a Twitter or any other social media for this ReadAThon but when talking about it on social medai use the hashtag #SequelSeptember !!

August Duodecathon TBR

Header Image

I almost forgot to post this! Usually, I post my TBRs a couple days before a ReadAthon starts but this one starts tomorrow!

So if you don’t know the duodecathon is a monthly ReadAThon. There are challenges for this ReadAThon but the cool thing about this one is you have the option to pick from 12 challenges. So there are 12 challenges for the 12 months of the year and the idea is that you participate each month so that by the end of the year you have completed all the challenges!

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you haven’t read

The ones in bold above have already been completed

As I only started last month I am doing 2 or more challenges per month to get them all done by the end of the year. So, for this month, I’m choosing A book with multiple authors & A Graphic Novel.

The Duodecathon overlaps with the beginning of #TheReadingQuest so some of these books will count for the quest as well as the duodecathon. You can find my TBR for #TheReadingQuest HERE! Also for the first 3 days of the ReadAThon, I will be away from home, I will indicate which books below I will be taking with me.

Blog Titles (63)

TWTDTPB2-2x3-300

This will complete the challenge to read a graphic novel. I will be taking this book with me when I’m away.

31450752 (1)

This will complete the challenge to read a book with multiple authors.

TheWicDiv_03-1

This is volume 3 of The Wicked + The Divine series and I plan to read this during the ReadAThon as well. This doesn’t really count for a challenge as reading volume 2 of the series will cover the graphic novel challenge. I will be taking this book with me when I’m away.

bo0b-square-1536

Salt to the Sea I will be reading via audiobook. This book doesn’t count for a specific challenge for the Duodecathon but it counts for a #TheReadingQuest challenge which overlaps with the Duodecathon.

20983362 (2)

This book also doesn’t count for a Duodecathon challenge. It is, however, the BOTM for the Facebook group YA Book Club and Book Talk.

If I finish the other books with time to spare then I will start either This Savage Song or Graceling. This Savage Song is the BOTM for the YA Book Bloggers group on Goodreads and also both books complete challenges in #TheReadingQuest!

And that is all for my TBR of the Duodecathon!
