July Duodecathon TBR

Header Image (85)

So if you don’t know the duodecathon is a monthly ReadAThon. There are challenges for this ReadAThon but the cool thing about this one is you have the option to pick from 12 challenges. So there are 12 challenges for the 12 months of the year and the idea is that you participate each month so that by the end of the year you have completed all the challenges!

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with traveling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you haven’t read

The ones in bold above have already been completed

As I only started last month I am doing 2 challenges per month to get them all done by the end of the year. So, for this month, I’m choosing A book you picked up because of the cover & A book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years.

photo_5653_0-7 (2)

I don’t physically own any books that have been on my TBR for more than 2 years that I actually want to read, so I’m choosing The Hobbit as I have wanted to read this since I saw the first movie! I love the movies for this book and can’t wait to finally get to the book.

13138635 (1)

And this one will be the book I chose for the cover as I basically only bought this for the cover and this isn’t a book I would usually purchase as it is a romance, which I am generally not a fan of. But I am going to read it anyway as I want to get it off my physical TBR and using it for this ReadAThon will mean I do that and it’s not just sitting there for the next year or two.

51vig4jtTgL._SY346_

This is just an extra book as I hope I will be able to get through those first two and still have time left. So I am putting this one on here too. This is a book as I downloaded through the Instafreebie program because it sounds really interesting. I have a lot of books from Instafreebie on my iBooks app as I kinda went a little crazy when I first started getting them and downloaded a heap that sounded interesting and I want to start getting through them!

Also, this ReadAThon ends on the 25th, but I also have the BookTubeAThon that starts on the 24th. So I’m hoping to get these done by the 24th so I can start reading books for that as I’m going to try and push for the Read 7 Books Challenge so I’m going to need all the time I can for the BookTubeAThon.

So that is all for my TBR! Are you participating?? If you are what are you planning on reading?!

Read-A-Thon Guide – July

Header Image (53)

This is my guide for the Read-A-Thons happening in July I will post the next one at the end of July for August!

At the moment I am only planning on doing the Duodecathon. If I am going to participate I will do a TBR before the ReadAThon.

Blog Titles (53)

So there isn’t a tonne of info about this ReadAThon except a little bit on the creators Goodreads page. But what I can gather is every month the creator releases 3 challenges and you can either pick one or do all 3! The main challenge though is that you have to only use book you already own! You can’t buy a book that fits the challenges you have to find a book you already own to complete 1 or more challenges!

This challenge goes all month!

HERE is their Twitter Page.

July’s challenges:

1. TV Adaptions
2. Paranormal
3. Based on a video game or has characters who play video games

Blog Titles (52)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

So this ReadAThon has 2 parts, first there is the theme. So the idea is to try and read books related to that theme and then there is the challenges, they are an extra challenge. I am not sure whether you have to try and find a challenge that fits into thats month theme or whether you just read two separate books for each.

HERE is a link to their Goodreads page

This ReadAThon happens every month so here is all the future challenges incase you wanted to plan!

3-9 July: Translations
Challenge: Read books from the year you were born

7-13 August: Childhood Favourites
Challenge: Marathon a Series

4-10 September: Standalones

6-12 November: New to you authors

Blog Titles (54)

So this challenges runs from the 17th to 30th of July. Use the Hashtag #HSreadathon for the ReadAThon.

So this ReadAThon is a seasonal thing, there is 4 different ReadAThons that they run as far as I can tell. This specific one has no reading requirements, you just read as much as you can in that time. There is a giveaway at the end of ReadAThon, you have to participate and post a Wrap-Up to enter. You can either post on a blog, twitter, facebook or Goodreads!

Blog Titles (55)

So as you can probably guess with this one, you attempt to read for 24 hours of the 48 hours the ReadAThon runs for. There is no specific reading challenges for this one.

You can find the Sign Up for this one HERE!

Blog Titles (56)

So this one is run on twitter and includes reading challenges, group book read, blog challenges, video challenges and photo challenges! You can participate in whatever you want, you do not have to do the video, blog, photo or group read! If participating in any of the video challenges you go in the draw to win a book. There is 8 books altogether that they are giving away! Checkout the link below for the Video Challenges to see which books can be one for each of the challenges.

The link for the ReadAThon’s Youtube is HERE!

They do have a post that explains the Booktube-A-Thon which you can find HERE!

This ReadAThon is from the 24th to 30th of July! They don’t have anymore info up about it yet as it isn’t till the end of July but I will do a seperate update about it when I post my TBR! Last years BookTubeAThon was the first ReadAThon I had ever participated in and I want to do it again this year for that reason!

A book that is set in the summer

Blog Titles (51)

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all. As I have already missed Jan, Feb, March and April I will not get all the challenges done, but I hope to participate every month from now on!

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

UPCOMING DATES:

August 1-7 or 11-17 (it has two dates on the goodreads pages, so I’m not sure atm)

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series

A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling

Blog Titles (60)

This is, as you can probably tell a 24 Hour ReadAThon and is being held again on the 21st of July! As far as I can tell there isn’t any reading challenges, it’s just reading as much as you can in the 24 hours.

June Duodecathon TBR/Possible Reads

Header Image (56)

So if you don’t know the duodecathon is a monthly ReadAThon. There is challenges for this ReadAThon but the cool thing about this one is you have the option to pick from 12 challenges. So there is 12 challenges for the 12 months of the year and the idea is that you participate each month so that by the end of the year you have completed all the challenges!

CHALLENGES TO PICK FROM:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

So I  haven’t been participating all year as I have either not had time at the beginning of the year with my Diploma taking up most of my time Jan-March and I honestly was having such a good reading month in April I honestly just forgot and then it was too late and then in May I had already done 1 ReadAThon and I just didn’t feel like doing another.

And I will be choosing the Read 1,200 pages challenge for this ReadAThon. I think this will be easy, the ReadAThon runs for 7 days so that is only 171 pages a day which I do anyway, well lately I have been. I have been having awesome reading months and reading tonnes! I read a 400 page book yesterday so I’m pretty sure I will be able to handle 171 pages a day!

Also as you can tell from the title this will be more likely Possible Reads.. I have basically been picking up whatever I feel like lately, so this is just some of my options! It will also depend on what books I finish before the ReadAThon as I may very well pick up and read a book on this list before the ReadAThon starts if I feel like reading it.

download (21)

Since receiving my copies of the Gryffindor Paperback & Hardcover 20th Anniversary editions I have felt like rereading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and the extra info in  20th Anniversary editions!

Pages:  368

chamber-of-secrets-illustrated-edition

I want to reread Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets using the Illustrated edition! I did this with the Philosopher’s Stone illustrated edition when I first got it but I have had the Chamber of Secrets one for ages and still haven’t done it! I have flicked through the book but I probably haven’t actually looked at every illustration in it!

Pages: 259

18692431

This one and the next book will definitely depend on what I feel like at the time as to whether I will read them or not! I have a few contemporaries on my shelves, most of them are from The YA Chronicles subscription box and I want to try and knock them off my TBR shelf. Everything Everything I did purchase myself as it is a diverse book in the fact that the main character has a condition that not many people have and very few know about.

Pages: 310

28052476

This is a book I received from The YA Chronicles and this isn’t a book that I would have bought for myself if I hadn’t received from them. This is a YA Contemporary Romance which is okay sometimes but majority of the time I won’t pick up. So it will depend how I feel at the time as to whether I will read this or not. I prefer contemporaries that have something else going on besides the romance, for example Geekerella was mainly about the TV Show and the convention and everything else so I could concentrate on that rather than the romance side of things being the main thing. I don’t care for romances that much in books, especially cheesy or instalove type romance. So hopefully this is a good book…

Pages: 328

The+Darkest+Minds+by+Alexandra+Bracken (1)

This may be a book I pick up before the ReadAThon honestly as I picked it up last night and read the synopsis and I am intrigued! This book is classed as a Sci-Fi/Dystopian/Fantasy and they are my 3 favourite genre’s so how can I say no?!

Pages: 488

So if I read those 5 books I would have read 1,753 pages. But as I said they are just possible reads.

Read-A-Thon Guide – June (Sorry I’m late!)

Header Image (54)

I know I am a little late as it’s already half way through June, but this is my guide for the Read-A-Thons happening for the rest of June.

This challenge also goes all month! So you can still jump in and complete a challenge for this ReadAThon if you wanted!

HERE is their Twitter Page.

Junes challenges:

A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Blog Titles (58)

This ReadAThon runs from the 19th to 25th of June and this is the 2nd time this ReadAThon has happened. So this ReadAThon each month there is a letter of the Alphabet that you have to choose your books around, so the books have to either start with that letter, the author’s first name starts with that letter, the author’s last name starts with that letter or a combination of all 3.

This month is B.

I would say they are going in alphabetical order. This ReadAThon has reading sprints on Twitter throughout and you can find their page HERE! There is also a giveaway if you post a photo of your TBR on either Twitter or Instagram or if you post a blog post and leave a link in the Info post on the creators blog! You can find that blog poster HERE that has all the info about the ReadAThon, sprints and the giveaway and how to enter!

So that is the 2 ReadAThons that are happening at the end of the month that I know of! If there are other please let me know and I will add them!

AYearAThon May Wrap-Up

Header Image (23)

So the AYearAThon actually finished a couple days ago now, but I haven’t been home. I didn’t read a tonne in the ReadAThon, but I’m happy with how much I did read!

Blog Titles (22)

So I only finished 1 book in this time but I finished 1 and started 2 others.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is the book that I finished.

HateUGive_10-10Snap

I finished Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake, I read 183 pages of this book during the time frame of the ReadAThon

three-dark-crowns-red

I started Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth, I got to 35% of this book and then put it down. I received an eGalley of this, so I don’t know exactly how many pages, I only know the percentage as that is what the kindle app shows. This book is so slow and it took me a couple days to get to 35% where I would usually finish 1/4 of a book in a day easily and because this book was taking forever, so I put it down to read something that I could actually read in this ReadAThon and I will pick it up after!

CarveTheMark_Roth_EpicReads

I also started Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I was 203 pages in that book when it hit midnight on the 7th!

Nevernight-Royal-HB-front-White-title (1)

And that is all I read for the ReadAThon! If you participated then let me know how much you read!

Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon Wrap Up

Header Image (12)

So the Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon has finished and I honestly didn’t do that great in this ReadAThon! I knew that I wouldn’t get TONNES read as I knew I would have to sleep and work. When I first decided I was going to do this ReadAThon I didn’t know that I was going to be working, so I planned on read all day today but that didn’t happen.

Blog Titles (24)

I started reading last night at 10:00pm, which was when the ReadAThon started in Aus. I went to sleep at about 1am and listened to an audiobook until I fell asleep.. I couldn’t get to sleep straightaway so I actually got an hour and a half of listening done. I woke up at 8 and worked from 9 till 1:30 and then had to come home and have something to eat and do some jobs. I then read for about 2 hours and then had to do some more jobs and cook dinner and then I watched My Kitchen Rules as it is the Grand Finale and I had forgotten it was on tonight till about half an hour before it started. I thought it was tomorrow night for some reason. So I watched it instead of reading as I’m not missing the grand finale after watching every damn episode of the season haha. So this wasn’t the best ReadAThon for me.

Blog Titles (22)

I read 223 pages of Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

three-dark-crowns-red

Blog Titles (23)

I listened to about an hour and a half of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I don’t know the exact time as when listening to audiobooks before bed I put it on a sleep timer of 15 minutes and then reset it if I’m still awake. That way if I fall asleep then it will be easy to go back a couple minute to what I remember.. So I listened to somewhere between 1hr 15min to 1hr 30min.

30154610

Well that is all for this wrap up. Hopefully I will have a better time with the AYearAThon which starts at midnight tonight! Atleast it goes for a week, so I can get more read in that time haha.

May A YearAThon TBR & Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon Info

Header Image (10)

So I have 2 ReadAThons coming up  very soon. The Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon & the A Year A Thon. I won’t be making a specific TBR for the Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon as there is no challenges, so I will just read whatever I’m up to when it starts and read as much as I can.

I’m posting this TBR now rather than just before the ReadAThon starts because the Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon ends at 10pm on the 30th and the A YearAThon starts 2 hours later at midnight. I will also be writing my blog post for the 30th today which will be a Tag Sunday so that way I won’t have to worry about it on that day. In the 2 hours between Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon and the A YearAThon I will post my wrap up for Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon.

So the May A Year A Thon starts on the 1st and ends on the 7th. The monthly theme is Rereads and the challenge is to read books over 400 pages. I won’t be rereading any books as I want to concentrate on new books more than rereading books.

So onto the books on my TBR. This isn’t a specific TBR, it will more be options of books with 400+ pages that I own or have on eBook.

Blog Titles (21)

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

CarveTheMark_Roth_EpicReads

Pages: 468

I have just received an email saying that I was approved to get a copy of Carve the Mark through NetGalley. So I will be starting this book next, I don’t know whether that will be before or during the A YearAThon.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

mara-dyer (1)

Pages: 456

I have a copy of this book on Scribd.

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

a-shadow-bright-and-burning-by-jessica-cluess

Pages: 416

I received this book in a The YA Chronicles Subscription box last year and have been meaning to read it ever since. It sounds really interesting and this ReadAThon might be the reason I finally get to it.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Nevernight-Royal-HB-front-White-title (1)

Pages: 429

I bought this ages ago and have been meaning to get to it but just haven’t got around to it yet! I also really want to read something that is written by only Jay Kristoff to see if I like her writing as in Illuminae & Gemina it is hard to tell.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Caraval-Garber

Pages: 407

I have this and the next book coming in the mail from Book Depository so it will partly depend on whether they arrive in time. But this book just sounds so interesting and there is so much hype, I’m so excited to get to it!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

HateUGive_10-10Snap (1)

Pages: 444

This sounds like such an important book to read at the moment. Granted being Australian this isn’t something that is directly affecting me, but I still really want to read it.

Well that are some of the books that are options for books over 400 pages that I could read from the ReadAThon. I will definitely be reading Carve The Mark after I finish Shadow and Bone. But it will depend on how long it takes me to read Shadow and Bone whether I will be reading it before or during the ReadAThon. If Caraval & The Hate U Give arrive in time they will most likely be the ones I’m most likely to pick up. If they don’t arrive in time then The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer & Nevernight will be highest on my list.

Read-A-Thons Guide – End of April & May

Header Image (6)

So there is a couple Read-A-Thons coming up that I want to participate in and I just wanted to talk about them! I will do another one of these at the end of May for the ReadAThons starting in June & continue this throughout the year.

Blog Titles (6)

So this one is coming up at the end of April and I will definitely be participating in this one!

This is a ReadAThon that goes for 24 hours! There is no reading challenges, you just read as much as you can in that time. What is different about this ReadAThon is that it doesn’t start at midnight in your timezone, it starts at the exact same time no matter where you are in the world! So if you are interested in participating HERE is a link to find out when it starts in your timezone

For me in Australia is starts at 10pm on the 29th of April and finishes at 10pm on the 30th of April.

Find more info HERE and Sign-Ups are HERE!

For this one I will be posting a TBR on the day before this one as there is no reading challenges it will just depend on where I’m up to at the time!

Blog Titles (7)

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read. In May the aim is to ReRead books! I don’t know what exactly I want to ReRead yet but I will also post a TBR for this one closer to the date. Also each month there is a challenge and May’s challenge is to read books that are 400+ pages (this is optional I believe).

You can find their Goodreads group HERE!

This one runs from midnight in your timezone on the 1st of May until 11:59pm on the 7th of May.

For this one there is also sometimes group reads. There isn’t one for May that I have seen though.

Also upcoming dates, themes and challenges:

1-7 May: Rereads
Challenge: Books with 400+ Pages

5-11 June: Catch Up/Finish a Series

This ReadAThon also is every month. This one has 12 options for challenges that you can pick from and the idea of this is that you participate every month and by the end of the year you will have done them all. As I have already missed Jan, Feb, March and April I will not get all the challenges done, but I hope to participate every month from now on!

You can find info and join the Goodreads group HERE.

Upcoming Dates:

May 24-30
June 24-30
July 19-25
August 1-7 or 11-17 (it has two dates on the goodreads pages, so I’m not sure atm)
September 18-24
October 7-13
November 22-28
December 25-31

Challenges to pick from:

Read 1,200 pages
Start OR finish a series
A 2017 debut author
A short story
A Graphic Novel
A Non-Fiction book
A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years
A book with multiple authors
A book you picked up because of the cover
A book that has to do with travelling
Someone else’s favourite book
The first book on your shelf you have read

Challenges I’m going to try and complete:

Read 1,200 pages – this one should be a little difficult but I like the challenge

Start Or finish a series – this should be easy as there are a couple series I need to finish

A 2017 Debut author – I might do this one for May as I’ve just ordered online Caraval and it should be coming soon, but it will depend on if I can wait till the end of the month to pick it up! Other options I’m considering is Frostblood, Daughter of the Pirate King & The Hate U Give

A Short Story – You could get through a couple short stories in a week easily and feel like you have accomplished heaps! I just don’t know which I would choose

A Graphic Novel – I have never read one before I do want to give it a go, but I just don’t know. If you have suggestions please leave them in the comments! I’m a fantasy reader and I don’t know how that fits into Graphic novels really haha. They are just an unknown for me.

A Non-Fiction Book – I want to read some Non-Fiction World War II stories, so this would be a good opportunity to do that. Any recommendations?!

A Book with multiple Authors – I have These Broken Stars on my TBR shelf and it is by 2 authors, so that is an option I already own.

A book you picked up because of the cover – Well the only books I have done that too that are on my physical TBR shelves is Everything, Everything & These Broken Stars. So this is a maybe as I’m not going to go out a specifically purchase books that just have pretty covers,  I don’t have money to waste like that.

A book that has to do with travelling – This doesn’t say travelling by distance, so I’m going to take this as travelling by time. So some options are Passenger and A Thousand Pieces of You

Challenges I won’t be doing:

A Book that has been on your TBR for 2+ years – I didn’t have a TBR 2 years ago, so I can’t exactly do this one

Someone else’s favourite book – Nearly every book you read is someone in the world’s favourite. I didn’t really not choose this one for any particular reason, it was just the least interesting to me.

The first book on your shelf you haven’t read – Well I don’t actually know if this means the first book you physically put there that you haven’t read yet or you go along from left to right going down your shelf until you find a book you haven’t read. Either way, I won’t be doing this. If it is my second guess then it will be The Hobbit as I have my TBr separate from books I’ve read on my shelves and by TBR section is in colour order, so it’s the first black book that I haven’t read, so that is what it would be.

Now I want to talk about other ReadAThons that are happening in May that I’m not participating in.

I will not be participating in this even though I really wish I could.

This ReadAThon goes for 3 months! From the 15th of May to the 6th of August.

Required to read in that time:

– Harry Potter Series
– Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
– Hogwarts Library books: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages & The Tales of Beedle the Bard
– Pottermore Short Stories: Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardships & Dangerous Hobbies, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics & Pesky Poltergeists & Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide.
– Pottermore Info on Illvermorny
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

Required to watch in that time:

– Harry Potter series
– A Very Potter Musical
– A Very Potter Sequel
– A Very Potter Senior Year
– Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

So as you can see that is a lot to do, if this was over the year then I would definitely do it. I could do it in a 3 month time frame, but even though I love Harry Potter that is a waste of a 3 reading months in my opinion as this would be all I was reading and wouldn’t have time for too much else. I would probably do this in a year without it being a ReadAThon, but I won’t be doing this challenge. I still wanted to let you know that is is a thing though. There is also challenges and chat time and quizzes and stuff that go along with this ReadAThone and you can find out everything HERE! You can also purchase a handmade bookmark in your house colours with your name on the back and I purchased mine before actually thinking through whether I was going to do this or not. So I’ll still be getting a cool custom bookmark but won’t be participating.
