Thriller/Mystery šŸ“š Bookish 5 Recommendations!

Hi all! Firstly I don’t really know what to call this series just yet but I want to do some book recommendations in the coming months. I’m conflicted as it’s not exactly a Top 5 so that name is out, so for the moment I’m going with ‘Bookish 5 Recommendations’ but if it changes in future posts you know why! This one is a little more broad but some I have planned are more niche recommendations like ‘Books with numbers in the title’ & things like that. Today I will be recommending 5 Thriller/Mystery books that I love! I did do a post at the end of last year recommending mystery & thriller book so you can check that one out HERE if you wanted some more recommendations. I will not be mentioning those books again in this post or sequels to them! Let’s jump in!

The Cousins by Karen M. McManus

This is Karen M. McManus’s most recent release & it wouldn’t be a Thriller/Mystery recommendations post without at least one of her books. This one follows 3 cousins who have never met their reclusive grandmother as she had disinherited the whole family before they were even born. Suddenly they receive an invitation to work at their grandmothers island resort. There is something more to it though and they start learning the mystery behind why the family was disinherited. I have enjoyed everything this author has released so far and they are definitely an auto buy author for me now. They have a way of writing extremely gripping stories with characters you can’t help routing for! I rated this one 4.5 stars!

The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas

This was another more recent read for me. It was fast paced, dark and thrilling & I loved every moment of it. This is actually one of my favourite premises for mystery books and that is a character trying to solve a mystery from the past. Truly Devious is like this and it’s one of my all time favourite series! The Cheerleaders follows Monica and 5 years ago at her school 5 cheerleaders died. Two believed to be an accident, two killed by the man next door & one (monica’s sister) a suicide. However after Monica discovers an old phone & letters in her stepdad’s desk she goes on the hunt for answers. Were these deaths as they seemed?
After reading The Cheerleaders I’m now very interested in picking up more books by this author! Hopefully they will be like Karen M. McManus and turn into an auto buy author! Fingers crossed anyways! If you have read any of Kara Thomas’s other books let me know your thoughts! I rated this one 4 stars.

Goldie Vance by Hope Larson, Brittney Willians & Sarah Stern

Thought I would add a Graphic Novel series onto the list! This one follows Goldie Vance, a teenage slueth that one day wants to become the in-house detective at the Florida Resort she lives at and Dad manages. This one is super fun to read & full of high stake adventure. There is also a Volume 4 that I haven’t gotten to yet as well as a heap of stand alones that aren’t direct sequels but are apart of the same story. Definitely recommend checking it out if you are looking for a fun mystery or a graphic novel!

I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick

This book was a ride! It took me a bit to get into this one as it follows multiple time lines but doesn’t really tell you when those time lines are. So I struggled a little but once I got into it I really enjoyed it! It’s very thrilling & mysterious and I had no idea what that reveal was going to be until it happened! I rated this one 4.5 stars. This one follows Anna & Martina. Anna is a new girl to town that has a striking resembles to Zoe Spanos a girl who went missing on new years eve. Anna starts looking into the case and begins to believe they are connected some how and that she knows what happene to Zoe. When Zoe’s body is found Anna is charged with manslaughter. Martina, a girl who runs a podcast thats about the Zoe Spanos case is determined to get to the bottom of it. Did Anna really kill Zoe?

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

In case you didn’t know the 2 covers above at the same book. The US edition for some reason is called 7 1/2 deaths & most other editions are just Seven Deaths. No idea why. Anyway this book is so freaking good and this is definitely a premiss I want to read more of! In this one every night Evelyn Hardcastle dies and then the day resets and Aiden, our main character, wakes up in a different body of someone in Blackheath Manor. The cycle will continue until he identifies the killer. This one is a closed door mystery where Aiden is racing against the clock to solve the mystery. This is another one that is a little difficult to get into but once you do you will be gripped to the very end! I honestly had no idea who the killer was until the very end and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Highly recommend and the audiobook is also very well produced!

Well that is all for this recommendations post! If you have any suggestions for recommendations let me know & I will see if I can do them. Obviously it will depend if I have 5 books that fit that trope/premiss.

What Mystery/Thriller book do you recommend the most often?

Thanks for reading! Eliza
