So, as many of you may know Goodreads has just opened their Goodreads Choice Award voting. As many of you also probably know the Goodreads Choice Awards are not that great for fairness…
Firstly, there are books on there that haven’t even released yet or have just released (These Violent Delights for example), so how can those books compete with books that released in January for example. Of course the books released earlier in the year will get more votes as simply more people have had the chance to read it.
Secondly there is often books categorised in genres that they simply don’t fit in.
Thirdly there is a lot of sequels which of course will get more love because if someone reads a sequel it is because they loved book 1 and will likely love book 2. So they have an unfair advantage to first books in series & stand-alones.
Fourthly (is that a word?) there is people that vote for books simply because they like the author, even if they haven’t read the book
And lastly there is people that vote for a book when it was literally the only one in the category they have read. Really this is the case in all cases though because unless you have read every book in the category how do you really know it’s the best one there?
There are other reasons but these are the main ones that make this unfair.
ANYWAY!
For that reason I decided to take on the challenge to read as many books in one category as I can. The category I chose is Young Adult Fantasy/Sci-Fi

There is some books in the list that I will not be reading because they are sequels of books I haven’t/or won’t read. Also one of them I DNFd in the past. So I won’t be completing that one but I can still give a bit of feedback for it in the end!

The Goodreads Choice Awards are always a bit questionable haha, but I still enjoy seeing which books end up there!
