I haven’t done a tag in forever! So I decided I would do one now! All I did was go into the WordPress Reader and scrolled until I found a tag! So the first tag I found was the Totally Should’ve Book Tag and The Book Dutchesses is who posted it.
Let’s jump in!
1. Totally should’ve…..gotten a sequel
I do love that this was a standalone as YA Fantasy standalone’s are rare, but also this book was amazing and I wanted more.
2. Totally should’ve…… had a spin-off series
Do I really need to explain myself?
3. Totally should’ve……who totally should write more books
This is Alwyn Hamilton’s debut and it was bloody amazing!! So I need something else from her!
4. Totally should’ve……ended differently
There is one specific thing that should have been different at the end of this book! But I don’t want to spoil anyway, sooo….
5. Totally should’ve……had a movie franchise
I am not going to answer this but knowing how a lot of book to movie adaptations go, they ruin it. So no.
But a book that would make a cool movie would be Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
6. Totally should’ve……had a TV series
Same as for the movie. I don’t want it ruined but a book that would make an awesome TV show if done correctly would be The Menagerie Series by Tui T Sutherland & Kari Sutherland
7. Totally should’ve……had one point of view
I wouldn’t necessarily say this should have had only 1 POV, but less than it did might have been nice to connect with the characters more. I do love multi POV books though.
8. Totally should’ve……had a cover change
These covers are just no!! I honestly prefer the 10th year anniversary & movie covers (below) to these. But none of them are great. Out of all of them, the movie cover is the best-looking one and that is saying something! This series is amazing can we please do something about these shitty covers though!
9. Totally should’ve……kept the original covers
I have a couple.
First off, I don’t hate the cover change itself as the new UK covers are awesome too. But it pisses me off that they changed it mid way through a series! If you’re going to do that, still come out with the next books as a matching cover. and the new covers. Like Alwyn Hamilton did with Rebel of the Sands!
Next, I know both are still available but the first covers are gorgeous!!
10. Totally should’ve……stopped at one book
Okay, so for this one it should have stopped after the second book.
I really enjoyed Firstlife & Lifeblood but Everlife, my god! It read like a fucking Adult romance 80% of the time! And it’s meant to be a YA fantasy. It was just bad.
I Tag
I usually don’t tag specific people, but I thought fuck it. Why not, so I tag:

I totally agree about a Harry Potter spinoff!!!!! And also Mockingjay! Totally should’ve had a different ending

Seen as you have read Mockingjay I won’t be spoiling you, I think the thing in Mockingjay that I wish was different was Prim’s death. That was horrible!!

I also like that Daughter of the Burning City was a standalone, instead of a sequel I think that having a companion book would be great, I would love this world to be expanded more.
I don’t think the covers for An Ember in the Ashes needed a cover change at all the first cover was great, but they went and made to more cover changes for books two and three. I’m curious to see if they make another cover change when book four comes out.

I want to explore the other abilities, and maybe the world outside of the Gomorrah Festival.

Thank you for the tag! I also wish Daughter of the Burning City had a sequel – partially just because I didn’t ever feel like I 100% understood some of what happened, but also because I liked the setting a lot.

I agree about not understanding everything but I feel like because it’s a stand-alone I just think ‘of course we don’t know everything it’s only 1 book!’ And don’t think about it too much haha. But yes I would love for some things to be rounded off a bit better. And yes! The setting is my favourite part.
