Goodreads Synopsis:
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
!HOLY SHIT!
I seriously… just wow.
Writing:
First of all, this book is nothing like I have ever read before! I loved it. I’m talking about the actual formatting of this book, I loved that there was no text like a normal book would have, it was all messages, surveillance footage summaries, transcripts of conversations and things like that. It made for a whole other reading experience that was just amazing. Also, the actual writing was amazing, the way things were explain was phenomenal, i felt like I was actually apart of this world and just reading all these documents.
Plot:
The plot was amazing as well! The whole idea was just great and the way everything just went together smoothly was awesome. I find that in most books after you read it you still have questions, like why do things happen and such but after finishing this book I really don’t have any question besides what happens next?!
Characters:
I loved the characters and how they were brought to life even though when they are talked about in the book it’s not from a personal observation. If that makes any sense. I really enjoyed Kady as a strong female character who put other people before herself. I also loved her sarcasm even when everything was falling apart around her and she was in a stressful situation she was still witty. Loved it!
I also liked Ezra even though things were shaky at first between him and Kady, he was still a loveable character!
In the end, I even started to enjoy AIDAN. Won’t go into details, trying to have no spoilers here!
Overall:
WOW, there is really no other word for it! I definitely recommend this book!!!
* I have since changed the rating of this book from 5 stars to 4 and a half as I liked Gemina even better!! *
