Here is the April ReadAThon Guide!! It is split up into categories depending on the length of the readathon! So it should be easier to find something you might want to participate in.
Atm, I’m planning on doing #AYearAThon & Duodecathon as I do them every month. I’m also hopefully going to participate in Magical ReadAThon which is a 4 week Harry Potter themed ReadAThon and I am so keen!
Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon
This one is exactly how it sounds! You have 24 Hours to read as much as possible. What’s unique about this ReadAThon is that it starts at the same time worldwide rather than at a certain time in your time zone. So everyone is reading at the exact same time.
This ReadAthon will be on the 28th of April.
They usually set up a world clock so you know exactly what time it starts for you, rather than having to figure it out. But I haven’t seen the link yet, so follow their Twitter or blog below and when they put it up you will see it.
You can find the ReadAThons Twitter HERE and also the 24HourReadAThon Blog HERE

This ReadAThon occurs every month and each month there is a different focus on what to read.

Okay, so this is a “week long” ReadAThon happening on Litsy! This is a casual ReadAThon with no challenges except to read as much as you can in the 5 days.

Alphabethon
Okay, so I don’t know any specific info about this one yet as it is still ages away. Usually, the challenge is to read books that either the name of the book or the authors first of last names start with a certain letter. They seem to be going in alphabetical order, so I will assume that this round will be F. They also have optional reading challenges too but as I said nothing has been announced yet except the date.
As this one crosses over with April & May I will add this one to my May ReadAThon Guide. It will be up prior to the start of this ReadAThon.
The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 30th of April till 11:59 pm on the 6th of May.

Magical ReadAThon
This is a 4 week long ReadAThon that is based on Harry Potter and when I discovered this I was like yes bitch I’m joining!! Anyway, this ReadAThon is based on the OWL (Ordinary Wizarding Level) exams at Hogwarts. So basically there are challenges for each of the 12 school subjects that Hogwarts students could take. So each challenge you complete is 1 OWL. You cannot double up challenges, so 1 book per challenge! You complete challenges and strive for the highest overall OWL grade. Unlike the books you don’t get an OWL grade for each subject, you just get an OWL for each completed subject challenge and depending on how many OWLs you get overall a corresponding grade is awarded. You can see the grades below.
The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 2nd till 11:59 pm on the 29th of April.
Grades:
Fail Grades:
T = Troll: Did not show up at your OWL examinations (Didn’t start a challenge)
D = Dreadful: Start but not finished an OWL task
P = Poor: Sit only 1 OWL
Pass Grades:
A = Acceptable: Sit (and pass) at least 2 OWLs (complete 2 challenges)
E = Exceeds Expectations: Sit (and pass) at least 3 OWLs (complete 3 challenges)
O = Outstanding: Sit (and pass) at least 5 OWLs (complete 5 challenges)
Subjects & Challenges:
Ancient Runes – A book with a symbol on the cover
Arithmancy – Read a book with a number on the cover or in the title
Astronomy – Read a Sci-Fi Book
Care of Magical Creatures – Read a book that includes Magical Creatures OR Features a Magical Creature on the Cover
Charms – Read a Fantasy Book
Defence Against the Dark Arts – Read a book about/featuring secret societies/clubs
Divination – Read a book featuring prophecies

Extra Note: There will be a NEWTs Exam ReadAThon happening in the future and you will only be able to complete NEWT Exams for the subjects that you completed in this OWL Exam! Just like at Hogwarts. So be mindful of what subjects you pick!
You can find the announcement post HERE! She has also created this awesome Hogwarts letter explaining everything, check that out HERE! Also follow the ReadAThons Twitter HERE!
#RYBSAT
THIS ONE STARTS TODAY!!!
Or at least very soon for the rest of the world! There wasn’t information up about this one when I put my March ReadAThon Guide together, so it wasn’t on that one, so sorry guys. But here is everything you need to know.
The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 27th of March till 11:59 pm on the 10th of April.
Firstly, this is usually a week long ReadAthon but as this marks their 10th round, they are making this one two weeks!
Okay, so the only challenge for #RYBSAT is that you pick a point on your bookshelves and read them in order that they are there and see how far you can get in the 2 weeks! I’m assuming you can use physical bookshelves OR the bookshelf on your phone or eReader for eBooks or audiobooks if that is your prefered way to read.
For this round, they are allowing you to choose the direction in which you read. So pick a point on your shelf and you can read forwards, backwards, up, down or diagonally. So pick a direction and go for it. You can choose to switch directions midway through too. You can read 3 books going backwards and then choose to go down for one book and then go forward from there. I hope this all makes sense.
Also if you are going backwards for example and you get to a series, you obviously don’t read the series backwards. Just grab the first book you haven’t read and go from there or skip the series completely. I’m also assuming (it wasn’t specifically said) if you are someone that doesn’t organise your series together and you, for example, get to the third book in a series but haven’t read the one before it you just skip it.
They will be running sprints on the #RYBSAT Twitter page which you can find HERE! Also, go and join their Goodreads Group HERE for my info! On Instagram & Twitter use the hashtag #RYBSAT when talking about the ReadAThon!
Empty Shelfie
Okay, so I have been trying to find solid info about this ReadAThon but they are severely lacking in that department. I believe this is a month long ReadAThon (I’m only guessing as in the ‘announcement’ type video the hosts kept saying ‘throughout the month’ and similar things like that). This ReadAThon seems to happen every month as well, so it is a little intense if it happens every month, all month.
Anyway, the goal of this ReadAThon is to read books that you already own, to try and Empty that TBR shelf we all have. This month they also have an ‘under the sea’ theme with reading challenges based on the theme. Personally, I think the first challenge is a little specific, simply if you don’t own a book about a cruise, you can’t complete that one and things like this really irritate me as I always like to attempt to complete all challenges and follow the rules. The other challenges are pretty broad though.
Challenges:
Read a book about a cruise
Read a book with water on the cover
Read a book set in a foreign land (this can be either any country you don’t live in on the planet or a fantasy land that is very different from ours).
Read a book with a marine or tropical word in the title
Read a book with Gold or Blue on the cover (yellow can be substituted instead of gold).
You can find the ReadAThon Twitter page HERE and the Goodreads Group HERE where they also run a book club by the looks.
Spring Into Horror
Spring Into Horror is a month long ReadAThon based on reading horror books. It goes for the entire month of April, but instead of starting in YOUR timezone, they want everyone to start at the exact same time worldwide, same as Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon. They have got a link to a time zone converter on their blog, but it is kinda useless. In the announcement post they say the ReadAThon will start at 12 am in ‘central time’, but that particular time zone converter works, not by time zones but by towns and states. So for anyone that doesn’t know where exactly ‘central time’ covers you are still going to have to google it. So I suggest using World Time Buddy. All you have to do is search ‘CST’ for central time & then your time zone. Choose the little calendar and pick the 1st of April and it will show a little table with what time it is in CST and what it would be in your time zone.
Okay, that out of the road! The goal is to read at least one scary book! You can choose to read more or focus on other books in other genres, but you need to read at least one.
To join you have to sign up to the linky at the bottom of the announcement post which you can find HERE!
Apocalypse-A-Thon
This one is another week long ReadAThon where you are challenged to read pre or post apocalyptic books! There are 5 challenges to complete in the month and each challenge is open to your interpretation
Reading Challenges:
Natural Disaster
Creature Feature
Out of This World
With a Little Help from my Friends
A Classic
The creator has helpfully created a Suggestions Post with a list of apocalyptic books and which challenge they could fit into. You can find that HERE! You can also find the ReadAThon’s goodreads Group HERE!
ApTHRILL
Yes this is the second month long horror themed ReadAThon that is happening in April and they are basically the same.
ApThrill is a month long ReadAThon with the challenge to read suspense, thriller and horror novels! As with most month long ReadAThons you don’t have to only read books that fit the challenge for the whole month, you are allowed to read other books too. As long as you read at least one suspense, thriller or horror novel you have smashed this ReadAThon.
Rules:
Post a blog post with your intent to participate (I imagine a post on any social media would suffice too if you don’t run a blog)
Share your TBR
Use the hashtag #ApTHRILL on social media!
This ReadAThon is being run by Kathy over at Books & Munches, a fellow book blogger! You can find her announcement post HERE!
