I have been meaning to do this post for a while! I decided a couple months ago to set myself a goal to finish 7 series by the end of the year. But now that there is only just over a month to go, I can see that it’s not going to happen. I had good plans but then BOTMs popped up as I started joining more groups and starting my own Facebook bookish group The YA Book Nerds. Then there was also ARCs and most of those are first books in the series. So I know I won’t be finishing 7 series this year! As I was going to wait until I did this little challenge to write this post and now I know I’m not going to get it finished I figured I may as well write it now!
First I will just list the series I need to finish and then I will list the ones that I won’t be finishing and a little explanation as to why I won’t be continuing.
**For the series I need to finish, this list will only include series that all the books have been released. I may do a separate post later on series I need to catch up on.**

1. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
Have read: City of Bones & City of Ashes
What I won’t be reading: City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls & City of Heavenly Fire
I have no better reason than I was bored reading the first two books. They were okay, but I just wasn’t interested in them and I will never understand how people compare them to the Harry Potter series. I just don’t get the hype and I’m not interested in completing this seires just so I can go read the other 2 companion series which are meant to be better. If it was one more book I might think about it but I’m not pushing myself through 4 more books in the hopes that it may get better.
2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Have read: Me Before You
What I won’t be reading: After You
I didn’t find this book emotional at all. That’s basically it. This book is written to be ‘sad’ and if you don’t like sad books then it basically has nothing for you. The book was predictable and half of the book I was just waiting for the thing to hurry up and get over with. I did like that we had a diverse character and a lot of people said it was ‘eye-opening’ but as I explain in my review for it, that wasn’t the case for me as I have close experience with someone in a wheelchair and I completely understood all the struggles that showed when it comes to being around someone in a wheelchair. So even though I was glad they included it, I didn’t get anything out of that. Also, that diverse factor will be gone in book 2 as that certain person will no longer be present. So I don’t really know what the point of book 2 would be except to be sad.. Which I doubt I would even have that opinion if I did read it..
3. Rondo by Emily Rodda
Have read: The Key to Rondo & The Wizard of Rondo
What I won’t be reading: The Battle for Rondo
This series was just kinda going downhill. The first book was good, not a favourite. Then the second book was just okay. I only picked up The Key to Rondo because I used to own it when I was a kid, I remember I bought it at one of those Scholastic Book Fairs when I was in Primary School. I tried reading it a few times when I was younger but never finished it as I would just loose interest. I hardly ever read at this point. Then I decided to give it another go, I think, last year and made it through it and the next book but they still never fully grasped my interest. So I won’t be continuing. I also honestly don’t remember a thing about the book except that its a boy and his cousin who is really stuck up and there is a talking pig. That’s all I remember.
4. Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh
Have read: Flame in the Mist
What I won’t be reading: Smoke in the Sun
I just did not like Flame in the Mist. I hated the romance and didn’t love the characters. I did not enjoy the third person POV that the book was in, I felt disconnected from the book and the characters… Also, the ‘magic’ system is basically nonexistent. If I’m going to read something labelled as an ‘amazing fantasy’, I want to see some legitimate fantasy elements!
5. The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff
Have read: Nevernight
What I won’t be reading: Godsgrave & Book 3 (unnamed)
Another book I just didn’t love. The book was really confusing to start off with as it swaps between past and present. There is nothing at all to suggest that its past and present and I honestly thought it was two different people to start off with. The plot was okay, but didn’t blow me away and neither did the world. The characters were also okay, I liked them but they weren’t outstanding or very memorable. This book just didn’t grasp my attention enough for me to want to continue.
6. The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater
Have read: Shiver, Linger & Forever
What I won’t be reading: Sinner
Okay, so this was one of those series that were meant to be a trilogy but then it became kinda popular and a few years later the author decides to write a companion or add on to the series. Sometimes I love when this happened and sometimes I just don’t care. I have read the full trilogy but I didn’t like any of the books. They were insta lovey, cheesy, predictable and basically everything I don’t want to read about in a Paranormal fantasy. I owned all three books so I decided to read them all, they were also really quick, so it wasn’t an issue reading all 3 as it took me under a week to read all 3.
7. Stormheart by Cora Carmack
Have read: Roar
What I won’t be reading: Rage
This is a maybe not read. I did like the world and the writing. But I didn’t like the romance at all. I also did not like basically any of the male characters. There was so much sexism and negative views of the male characters and I couldn’t stand them.
8. The School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani
Have read: The School from Good and Evil
What I won’t be reading: A World without Princes & The Last Ever After
I am just goint to link my review of The School for Good and Evil.. I don’t even want to talk about this book. HERE is the review
Oh thanks for this post. Most of these are in my TBR and will consider your comments about them…Why read bad books when there are good ones, right…And I must say, it’s a good decision, you stopped reading Mortal instruments as early as you did. I finished the series but *deep sigh* it was even more boring on book three or 4… But you really should finish Cinder..That series is one of my faves. And I just recently read Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology…You can check out my review if you want. But I might have included little spoilers. 🙂

My struggle with Percy Jackson is I can’t find matching editions to the one I have. 😫
And yeah I honestly hated the sex scenes in Nevernight.
And I was told you should read TMI before the other two. So I haven’t bothered.

i hate it when you try to find the same edition to the books you have!
give TID a try everything in that series was ten times better than TMI

Might give it a try eventually. Not a high priority though.

I relate so much to what you pointed out about the Me Before You series. Although I did sort of enjoy the first book, the second book seems a little bit unnecessary in my opinion. Just an excuse for the author to drag on and on the story. AND YES YES YES finish the Shatter Me series you will not regret it, especially with the series sequels coming out next year.

I didn’t enjoy the first really at all unfortunately. And I will definitely be continuing. I will probably leave it till next year now too. So they might be out my the time I get to the other books.
