I couldn’t resist the Moana & Pua pop! And then I also saw Frodo when I was on PopCultcha and had to grab him too!

FullSizeRender 163

I got some candles from Fragrant Fables! There is the only one that I don’t like and that is the Caraval one, the scent is really strong! But the rest smell really good!

FullSizeRender 162

When I saw these I had to get them! I absolutely love the Vampire Academy Series and there is hardly any bookmarks/candles or anything for this series! So when I saw these at Bookmark Library I put the whole set!

IMG_3660

These are from In A Paper Forest. The three on the right are from her old stock and she had the price reduced to get rid of them so she could bring in the new sizing and card. And then the Ginny one I couldn’t say no to! It’s so gorgeous and is probably my favourite Ginny drawing I have seen!

So I bought these in two different lots but once I got my first order from ReadandWonder I had to get more!

“I love every aspect of this amazing book—a gender fluid hero, a deadly contest, and vicious courtly intrigue. Get! Read! Now!” —Tamora Pierce, #1 New York Times bestselling author

I Needed to Win.
They Needed to Die.

Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home.

When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen’s personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge.

But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.

Summer Biannual Bibliothon Wrap Up

Header Image (98)

So another of the ReadAThons are over! Only 1 more left! I had heaps of fun this last week and a half with the Duodecathon, Biannual Bibliothon & BookTubeAThon but I’m also glad they will all be over soon so I can relax and slow down a bit with the reading.

So let’s get straight into what I read! I’m going to split this up into what I read & what I partially read during the ReadAThon!

I don’t know how much of this exactly I read during the ReadAThon as I started it before the ReadAThon and also I continued listening to it today after this ReadAThon had finished. But I did listen to a fair chunk of the book during the ReadAThon.

51m1Cr1lJlL._AA300_

I started listening to Half Bad during the ReadAThon but didn’t get it finished. I also don’t know how much I read during the ReadAThon as Scribd doesn’t show a percentage or anything, just chapters.

That is all for my wrap up!

Did you participate in the Biannual Bibliothon? How much did you read? What was your favourite read of the ReadAThon?

July 2017 The YA Chronicles Unboxing

Header Image (97)

I’m back for another The YA Chronicles unboxing! Let’s jump straight in!

Blog Titles (38)The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!

Here is the link to their website!

It says on the website that there is international shipping, so I’m assuming they ship everywhere, so I’m sorry if they don’t ship to your country!

I will only be posting costing in AUD, so if you want to know what it would cost in your country then you can go here to convert it.

Cost of the Box: $39.99 AUD
Shipping to Aus and NZ: $9.99 AUD (this includes tracking)
Shipping internationally: $24.99 AUD (this includes tracking)

They have closed sales for the pride box but you can preorder the Tower of Dawn box. There are 3 options for this box. One is the UK paperback + goodies, the second is US Hardcover + goodies and the last is the UK paperback, US hardcover + goodies.

Also, this subscription box is not automatically recurring, so you do have to purchase it every month, which is good and bad because it means you can easily pick and choose the themes that you want to purchase but also you have to remember to get in before it sells out!

In this box every month, you receive a new release paperback YA book, a TYAC bookmark with that month’s theme on the back and 2-5 other bookish items. Each month is themed and the theme is announced as soon as the subscription box goes on sale!

Also they have previous boxes for sale! At the moment they have the following for sale:

June 2016: Pride Week
December 2016: Simply Wonderful
April 2017: Bippity Boppity Book
June 2017: Take To The Seas
July 2017: To The Revolution (This box)

Blog Titles (39)

VOLUME TWENTY THREE: TO THE REVOLUTION

As always, I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box. I’m also going to add pricing or a guess at pricing so we can see if the box is worth the price tag!

IMG_3560

Rise Up Candle

IMG_3561

Prepare for the revolution with the alluring scent of Rise Up, a Hamilton inspired candle made exclusively for this box by The Book Hangover. The candle smells of Hay, Tobacco, Leather, Amber & Mahogany.

The Book Hangover is currently closed and they also don’t usually make 4 oz candles, so I’m just going with the average pricing of a 4 oz bookish candle on Etsy. So I would price this at $8.

Magnetic Bookmark

FullSizeRender 142

FullSizeRender 146

Remember Amani from Rebel of the Sands (our first and most beloved rebel?) well now you have this super cute Amani magnetic bookmark by Epik Page on Etsy.

This one costs $3.05 on their Etsy store.

FullSizeRender 143

Place this Hamilton Rise Up decal onto your laptop, eReader, or even your bedroom wall and show off your dedication to the cause! Decal created by Goldparrotcreation on Etsy.

This one costs $3.90 on their Etsy store.

Feminist Pin

FullSizeRender 141

We absolutely love this Feminist pin from jubly-umph.com. Show off your feminist pride and fight for equality for all.

This one costs $16.95 on their website. I don’t agree with an item like this being in the box as not everyone are feminist, myself included. So I would get absolutely no use out of this pin.

Readvolution Sticker

FullSizeRender 152

Start a revolution of your own with this readvolution sticker from annaOMline on Redbubble.

You can purchase this sticker on their Redbubble store for $2.87.

Hachette Australia YA superproof

FullSizeRender 153

FullSizeRender 155

We’ve also provided you with a Hatchette Australia  YA Superproof so that you can decide on which books to read during your revolution.

These books are usually given away so I can’t put a value to this.

The Book

FullSizeRender 147

FullSizeRender 157

In our book of the month, The Walking Land by Callie Bates, Lady Elanna Valtai has been raised by the King since she was a child. But when the King dies under mysterious circumstances, Elanna is accused of his murder and flees back to her homeland. Fighting to suppress the strange connection she has to the natural world, Elanna must team up with her father to lead a revolution against the Kingdom to which she once gave her allegiance. Trapped between divided loyalties, she must summon the courage to confront a destiny that could tear her apart.

This book costs $17.88 on The Book Depository & $19.99 at both Dymocks & QBD.

The Bookmark

FullSizeRender 160

FullSizeRender 149

The Card

FullSizeRender 150

Blog Titles (41)

So all up this box was worth $52.65. This box costs me about $45 as I used a coupon code. But usually, the box is about $50 a month. Honestly, I would like a bit more value to the box as $3 extra really isn’t that worth it especially taking into account there is most likely going to be at least one item you don’t like or have no use for in each box. Hopefully, next month will have better value!

And that is all for this unboxing!

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan – Mini Spoiler Free Review

Review Header Image (37)

Title: The Lightning Thief
Author:
Rick Riordan
Series Name: Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy
Publication Date: June 28th, 2005
Pages: 377 (Paperback)
Publishers: Disney Hyperion Books
Rating:
5 Star

Blog Titles

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school… again. And that’s the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he’s angered a few of them. Zeus’ master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus’ stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.

91RQ5d-eIqL (3)

Okay, so I’m not going to go into the full review for this book as basically everyone knows what the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is and a majority have people have read it and a majority of those people like it.

Blog Titles (74)

– The world is really well done and well developed. It was easy to picture what has happened throughout the book.
– I liked most of the characters and they developed well throughout the book. Annabeth is probably my favourite character.
– The book was action packed but also well paced. There were slower parts but they were used to develop the world or characters.
– As the book is more of a middle grade book it is easier and quicker to read than what I’m used to.

Blog Titles (75)

– Percy’s character did not feel like a 12 year old. Nor does Annabeth really either but it makes a little more sense seen as she has known about the world and been in it for a lot longer.
– The cover of this book doesn’t really make sense honestly. Why is Percy standing on the head of a Poseidon statue?

This is the story of a charming lord who won’t grow up, his best friend (who he may or may not be in love with), and his studious and sassy little sister. This is the tale of their incredible road trip through 18-century Europe, and all of the mischief they encounter along the way. This book has everything you could ever want – an amazing cast of diverse characters, pirates, highwaymen, mysterious artifacts, laugh-out-loud moments, dangerous adventures, and ALL THE FEELS!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue has us smiling from beginning to end, and we know you’ll love it! We also hope you enjoy the exclusive cover, super fun letter and signed bookplate from Mackenzi Lee, as well as the cute art print map!

On Book Depository this book is $24.93 but I will give it $30 for the exclusive cover & signed book plate.

Blog Titles (41)

So adding up all the pricing it ends up at $83.97 AUD. This box cost me $62.26 so I am happy with how much this box ended up being worth.

I personally won’t use the owl bag tag as I don’t think it is cute and I just don’t travel anywhere that requires a bag tag. I also personally think it’s more of an item for kids.. I also won’t use the drawstring bag as I haven’t used them since Primary school when we had to.. Also, another item that I think is more for kids… Not necessarily the quote and design itself but the bag itself.

Title: The Bone Season
Author:
Samantha Shannon
Series Name: The Bone Season
Genre: YA Fantasy Sci-Fi
Publication Date: August 20th, 2013
Pages: 466 (Hardcover)
Publishers: Bloomsbury
Rating:
4 and a half Star

Blog Titles

The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

BoneSeason_PB_cat (1)

Blog Titles (1)

So I’m not in love with this cover but it’s alright. I prefer the over set of covers and if I purchase this series that is the ones I will buy!

Blog Titles (2)

So I enjoyed the writing but I did have one issue and that was the lack of explanation of certain words in the book. However, I do know now that there is a Glossary in the back of the book though which is handy! But as I am reading the eBook I didn’t know it was in the back of the book until someone else told me it was there. Which is the frustrating thing about eBooks, you can easily go back and forwards and look at the glossary. I do like the glossary though as it is pretty extensive!

So as for the writing itself once I got into the book a bit I really enjoyed it. Without the glossary, the start of the book was a little confusing and a little hard to get into but once I got past the start of the book I really enjoyed the writing, it was fast paced for the majority of the book and dragged you in!

Another thing that annoyed me about this eBook itself is that it has the prequel in it, The Pale Dreamer, which is fine but The Pale Dreamer comes before The Bone Season and they put it at the back of the book!

Blog Titles (3)

So as I said this is a fast paced book and there is a lot of stuff going on in this book! There are tonnes of twists and turns in this book which always kept it interesting! I was a bit iffy about this book just being another typical dystopian but it was fairly unique! It does contain a few tropes but the overall plot was really interesting and so was the world.

Blog Titles (4)

I liked Paige, she was brave and strong and would always try and do what was right for the people around her. She also developed in this book and became even more caring and determined in the end. She always did everything she could and pushed herself until breaking if it meant trying to save herself or others.

Julian, I enjoyed even though we didn’t get to know him a tonne but he never cared about the consequences for himself as long as he was helping others. Liss I really enjoyed too, she put herself at risk to give some advice and food to a newbie!

I don’t like Jaxon. We mainly only see him in memories throughout the book but I don’t like him. I liked that there was a character named Eliza (same as myself) but we didn’t see her a tonne so I can’t really comment. I just like that I’m starting to find the name Eliza being used in books more. I did like Nick, I think, he was caring and protective but I need to know more about him, so hopefully, we will see him more in the next book.

I can’t talk about a few people as it will kinda give away spoilers so I’m going to leave it here.

But also can I just say the character development in this book was done so well!

Blog Titles (5)

I really enjoyed this book! The character development was awesome! The world was so interesting and unique! The pacing was really good and this book drags you in and doesn’t let you leave! I can’t wait to get to book two!
