🎄 Blogmas 🎅🏼 Wrap Up

November Wrap Up 🎄 Blogmas Day 2

November was a little slow for me! One book took a while because I was busy & it was long and another one I struggled to get through which took away from my reading time.. I ended up reading 10 books altogether but 5 of them were rereads.
Anyway, let’s jump in!

Audiobooks

Firstly the rereads! Don’t think I really need to discuss these, so moving on.

Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline

Next I listened to Ready Player Two was was really good! I was very nervous going into this one as Ready Player One was amazing & I was worried this one wouldn’t be able to live up to it but I was impressed. Ready Player One was a bit better but Ready Player Two was still really good & I ended up rating it 4.5 Stars.

Ghost Squad by Claribel A. Ortega

Then I listened to Ghost Squad which is a Middle Grade. This one was super fun & I really enjoyed reading it. This one features ghosts, a badass grandma & her cats. I highly recommend giving this one a chance of you can! I rated it 4.5 stars.

Physical/eBooks

Queen of Volts by Amanda Foody

Firstly for physical books I finished Queen of Volts by Amanda Foody. This one is a decent size book and it took me a while to get through it. I did enjoy it but not quite as much as the other books in the series. I still rated it 4.5 stars and I’m very keen to see what Amanda Foody comes out with next.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn

This one I started reading physically but did end up finishing on audiobook. I struggled with this one a lot. I would go for days at a time without wanting to pick it up and even when I did I would only read a small amount and then get bored with it. If it wasn’t for this being one of the books in my Goodreads Choice Awards Challenge I probably would have DNFd. It wasn’t necessarily bad but I just couldn’t get into it and couldn’t connect with it. Which means I didn’t really care about the characters or what happened to them. There was a love triangle which I was not a fan of but really that was the only actual negative I have. I rated this one 3.5 stars

The Test by Sylvain Neuvel

This one was a bit disappointing. I read and loved The Themis Files by Sylvain Neuvel and they were amazing! The story was so impactful and the characters were so realistic and I just loved the whole thing. So I had high expectations going into this one but I just couldn’t get into it. It was interesting enough but I didn’t have any connection to the characters. I feel like you need that connection to feel the full impact of the book but I just didn’t. There wasn’t anything wrong with it but I just wasn’t overly impressed compared to The Themis Files.

Wrap Up

I read 19 books! 📚October Wrap Up

So in October I participated in GraphicsAThon, so 11 of the 19 books I read where Graphic Novels, 7 were audiobooks & the other 3 where physical reads.
So, let’s jump in!

Graphic Novels

Firstly for graphic novels I read Fence Volume Two & Volume Three by C.S. Pacat, Johanna the Mad & Joana LaFuente. I rated both of these 4.5 stars as they are super fun & also engaging. This series is the lead up to a fencing competition, so you are rooting for certain characters to win & there is a lot of anticipation while reading!

Next I read Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly Matthews & Nichole Matthews. These one is about a family’s who responsibility is to look after Pandora’s Box. However, it gets opened and these 3 kids have to return everything that escaped to the box before anyone finds out! This is fun & full of adventure. I ended up rating it 4 stars!

Next I read Volume One, Volume Two & Volume Three of Goldie Vance by Hope Larson, Brittany Williams, Noah Hayes, Jackie Ball, Jim Campbell & Sarah Stern. Goldie Vance is a Mystery Graphic Novel and it very immersive & addicting. I would have read Volume 4 & Larceny in La La Land as well but it became unavailable on Scribd before I could get to it! So maybe this one. I rated all 3 volumes 4.5 stars!

Next I reread The Tea Dragon Society & The Tea Dragon Festival then continued onto The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Katie O’Neill which I had an eARC of! These are just such a cute wholesome series & I’m really sad that it is over. I would easily read another 10 books set in this world or following these characters as it’s just all amazing. I rated all three 5 stars!
The Tea Dragon Society Review
The Tea Dragon Festival Review
The Tea Dragon Tapestry Review

The Avant-Guards: Volume One by Carly Usdin & Noah Hayes is another sports based Graphic Novel. This one we have a girl that moves to a new school and has a group trying to recruit her for a basketball team they are trying to form. This one is very fun and I love this random group of characters! This is another one I would have continued but Scribd made them unavailable. I’m keen to get to the rest of this series! I rated this one 4 stars!

Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito is a Horror Manga collection. This one I ended up rating 4 stars. This one features:
Frankenstein: 4.5 Stars
Neck Specter, Bog of Living Spirits, Pen Pal, Intruder, The Strange Tale of Oshikiri & The Strange Tale of Oshikiri: The Walls: 4 Stars
The Hell of the Doll Funeral: 3.5 Stars
Face Firmly in Place: 3 Stars
Boss Non-Non & Hide-and-seek with Boss Non-non: 3.5 Stars
So, overall I gave this one a rating of 4 stars. I’m keen to try more stories by Junji Ito!

Audiobook

The Silence of Bones by June Hur is a Mystery book set in 1800 Korea. I loved learning about the culture at that time and I love a good mystery. This one was interesting and keen to read more by the author. I rated it 4.5 stars.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is another YA mystery and I loved this one! I have a full spoiler free review up for this one and you can find that HERE! I’m so keen to read book 2 when it comes out because I feel like there is more to learn about this mystery!

This was my least favourite read of the month. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia was slow & also the twist was very confusing. It didn’t make a lot of sense and I felt like it was a little ridiculous really. There were so many better ways this book could have gone. I ended up rating this one 3 stars but I have debated downgrading that to 2.5 stars. I’m not sure.

Physical/eBook

I reread Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys in October and loved it even more this time! This is a hard hitting WWII story that is very emotional and beautifully written. You can find my spoiler free review HERE!

FINALLY!!! They finally released Memento by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff in eBook & Audiobook form so I had to read it straight away! This one follows AIDAN in the events leading up to Illuminae. This was awesome & I rated it 5 stars!

Lastly I read Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare which is a Slasher thriller and it was a tonne of fun. The only downfall with this one was the reveal at the end.. It just didn’t really make sense and the motive was a push. I rated this one 4 stars.

Let’s Chat!

What was your favourite read from October?!
Mine would be The Inheritance Games for audiobook & The Tea Dragon Tapestry for Graphic Novel. Of course Salt to the Sea is a favourite but as it’s a reread I thought I’d let the new books have a chance.

Blogtober 2020 Wrap Up

September 📚 Wrap Up 💫Blogtober #2

It’s time for my September Wrap Up! While I did still read ## books this month I definitely felt like I was reading less than usual. Majority of the books I read were on audiobook because I have been super busy and just haven’t had the chance to sit down and read. I’m still happy with how much I read I just wish I had more time to physically read.
Anyway, let’s jump in!

Audiobooks

Even If We Break was a very interesting and creepy story! I read this one for the Bookopoly ReadAThon Challenge LGBT+ MC as this has a Trans MC as one of the POV and I enjoyed it! It was so gripping and atmospheric! I ended up rating this one 4 stars!

Dead Voices is the sequel to Small Spaces which is book 1 in a Middle Grade Horror series. This one is very fun but also very creepy and atmospheric. I love how unpredictable these books are and I really enjoy the characters and the villain is also super creepy. Dead Voices & Even If We Break have very similar vibes too because they are both horror set in a cabin/building in the middle of nowhere and they are trying to escape/survive. I rated Dead Voices 4 stars.

Rebel of the Sands was a reread for me and I enjoyed it just as much this time as I did the first time reading it. Rebel of the Sands was the first book I ever read and reviewed on this blog, so it’s been a while. It’s really action packed, lots of world building and I love the characters. I’m super keen to reread book 2, Traitor to the Throne, soon! I rated this one 4.5 stars this reread and I read it for the Animal on Cover Bookopoly ReadAThon challenge.

All Your Twisted Sisters was so good! I also highly recommend the audiobook for this one it was really well done. I had not heard anything about this book before picking it up but the cover intrigued me and I guessed that it was YA mystery which I was in the mood for. I was so surprised by how much I loved this book. It was VERY unpredictable and the big reveal at the end literally floored me. Amazing read! I rated this one 5 stars and read it for the Book featuring murder challenge for Bookopoly ReadAThon which is doesn’t quite fit but oh well.

Next Girl to Die is the first book in The Calderwood Cases series. This is a pretty standard detective mystery. I have been really into all mystery/thriller/horror lately so this was perfect. I did really enjoy it and it was unpredictable as well. It was nothing mind blowing but I would be interested in continuing the series someday and I rated it 4 stars. I read this one for the “girl” in title challenge for Bookopoly ReadAThon

Loveboat, Taipei was actually surprisingly good. I needed a book set in Asia for the Bookopoly ReadAThon and this one came up on Scribd so I decided to pick it up. I’m not huge into contemporary but I did enjoy this one in the end and rated in 4 stars.

Lastly we have Nick and Charlie which is a novella based on the characters from the Heartstopper Graphic Novels. These characters are just super cute and I love reading the graphic novels. This novel was a little less fluffy than the Graphic Novels but I did still enjoy it. I listened to the audiobook but also flipped along with the physical book as there is illustrations throughout which I love. I rated this one 5 stars!

Ever Cursed as actually really good! I had no idea what to expect from this one as I hadn’t heard any talk about it. It was a really interesting story with amazing characters and vivid world. I really enjoyed it and rated it 4 stars.

A Song Below Water was not what I was expecting. I wanted a siren story and while it started as that it didn’t end that way. The focus shifted from Tav to Effie and while I liked Effie I was more invested in Tav’s story. It was also just a little lacklustre, so I didn’t overall love it. I ended up rating this one 3.5 stars!

The Hate U Give was a reread for me and it’s the 3rd reread I have done. I love this story so damn much and still makes me cry every time! 5 stars for sure!!

Physical Reads

The Price Guide to the Occult was entertaining but had some problems. I did review this one so if you want to check that out you can find it HERE. I rated this one 3.5 stars.

Indigo Owl was amazing! I really enjoyed reading this one and loved the characters, world and plot! I also review this one as part of a Review Tour, so you can find that one HERE. I rated this one 4.5 stars and again a huge thank you to Wakefield Press & AusYABloggers for hosting the Review Tour and providing copies for review.

Graphic Novels

The Tea Dragon Festival is book 2 to The Tea Dragon Society and these graphic novels are amazing! The art work is gorgeous, the diversity is incredible & the story are just so fun and enjoyable. I love them and I can’t wait to pick up book 3, The Tea Dragon Tapestry. I really hope this is one of those series that they just keep adding more and more books because I am so down to read them all! I rated The Tea Dragon Festival 5 stars!

Misfit City Vol 1 & Vol 2 are both awesome! I would definitely read more books following these characters but unfortunately the series has wrapped up for now. These are super fun adventure stories about a group of diverse and badass females on the hunt for pirate treasure. It’s amazing and I love the art style as well. I rated both of these 4.5 stars.

May & Fantasy JourneyAThon Wrap Up

It is the last day of May & also the last day of the Fantasy JourneyAThon! So, let’s chat about what I read in May and how I went during the ReadAThon!

After reading only 1 book in March & 4 in April, I actually managed to read 11 books in May! Which I’m super happy with. I read 3 eBooks, 5 Audiobooks, 2 Graphic Novels & 1 eARC which also happened to be a Graphic Novel.

Graphic Novels

Firstly let’s just mention the 2 Graphic Novels I read in May. I have spoken about them more in my Recent Reads & Currently Reading post, so I’ll just pop the covers up here!

eBooks

Next onto the eBooks!

Firstly I read book 2 & 3 in The Extraordinary Adventures of The Athena Club series by Theodora Goss! Which I absolutely loved!! European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman & The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl are Historical Mysteries with fantasy elements, which is right up my alley. I loved all the characters, the setting, the plots were super unique and unpredictable & I was just absolutely hooked on this story. This is definitely one I would consider rereading and Scribd happens to have the audiobooks, so this might just happen soon!
Next I read The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller and I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought I would when I started out. This is a YA Fantasy Standalone which sounded good to me, however, this is also a Romance and usually I’m not a huge fan but I actually really enjoyed this one. I enjoyed the characters & the setting. The plot was also unpredictable and just kept me hooked.

Audiobooks

Now, onto the Audiobooks

Firstly, of course I reread Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets & Prisoner of Azkaban.
I also reread Quidditch Through the Ages which I especially love the audiobook for as it has bonus content of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup, which is not featured in the original book.
Then I was bored one afternoon and looking through audiobooks and started listening to The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky as it was short and thought would help with points for Fantasy JourneyAThon. I did not realise at the time that it meant ‘Getting Lucky’ in the sexual sense. So, that was an interesting read. Slightly funny but I don’t think it’s something that you really need to read for the story. It did help with points though, so all good!

eARC/ARCs

Lastly, we have the eARC that I read which was Kriss: The Gift of Wrath by Ted Naifeh & Warren Wucinich and I have reviewed this one so you can check that out HERE if you wish! This one just wasn’t for me and I didn’t understand the point of it really.

Fantasy JourneyAThon

The path I took included 7 books and I did use my Shadow Walker ability to jump from Garon to Mount Paedris.

Haroyell: Read a first book in a series – The Backstagers: Vol 1
Dupressa: Read a short book – The Backstagers: Vol 2
Garon: Read a book from your favourite genre – European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman
*SHADOW WALKER ABILITY TO JUMP USED*
Mount Paedris: Read a book with a map – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Maroo: Read a book with a monster – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Tryllin: Read a book featuring Royalty – The Shadows Between Us
Nialas: Read a predicted 5 star read – The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl

What was your favourite read of May?
Mine would have to be either European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman or The Sinister Mystery of the Mesmerizing Girl! They were both so good! I can’t choose.

Wrap Up

January 2020 Wrap Up

A bit late but here is my wrap up for January!
Firstly, some stats! I read a total of 11 books and also DNFd 1 book. 5 of the books I read were rereads. 3 of the books I read were physical/eBooks and the others were all audiobooks. I also read a total of 4,450 pages in January.
So, lets jump in!

Physical/eBook

Firstly we have Nyxia Unleashed! This is the sequel to Nyxia in The Nyxia Triad Series. I read Nyxia in 2018 and I loved it! I loved this book just as much! This is a super unique, interesting & action packed This was a 4.5 Stars for me and I can’t wait to get to book 3, Nyxia Uprising.
Spoiler Free Review

Next we have The End and Other Beginnings which is a short story collection by Veronica Roth. This was a bit all over the places for me. There were ones I loved & ones I hated. There however wasn’t enough good stories in there for it to really stand out, so that was disappointing. You can check out my review for ratings & thoughts on each of the individual stories.
Spoiler Free Review

Lastly for Physical/eBooks I read Come Tumbling Down which is book 5 in the Wayward Children Series. I am loving all these new worlds we explore with each new book in this series and I also love that they have remained short books. They make for easy and fun reads.
Spoiler Free Review

Audiobooks!

Firstly for audiobooks I listened to The Beast which is book 2 in The Darkdeep duology. I listened to The Darkdeep at the end of December and really enjoyed it. It’s a fun middle grade adventure novel with heaps of plot twists and action. Highly recommend if you are looking for something quick & action packed to read.

Next I reread the first two books in one of my favourite series in anticipation for the release of Book 3, The Hand on the Wall. I absolutely love Truly Devious & The Vanishing Stair. This series just keeps getting better and better with each book.
Spoiler Free Review of The Vanishing Stair

Next I listened to book 31 & 32 in the Hercule Poirot Mysteries series. I enjoyed both After the Funeral & Hickory Dickory Dock just as much as I have all the other books in the Hercule Poirot series. I absolutely love Hercule Poirot and the way Agatha Christie writes the mysteries in this series. Never predictable & always leaves you guessing.

Lastly, some more rereads in anticipation of continuing the series. It had been a few years since I originally read the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series so I decided to reread them via audiobook before I listened to A Map of Days and future books in extended series. I loved this one just as much this time as I did the first time reading them! Such a creepy and unique world and amazing bunch of characters.

DNF

The only book that I DNFd in January was The Dragon Republic which is the second book to The Poppy War. I DNFd at 285 pages, so just over half way through. I absolutely loved The Poppy War but when I tried to read this one I just found it super slow and lot was going on which wasn’t making me excited to jump back in and read it and I found myself just avoiding reading instead of pick this one up. I definitely want to read this one at some point because of how much I loved The Poppy War but I might have to give it a go on audiobook to try and get through the slow parts.

Well that is all the books I read & DNFd in January! How many books did you get the chance to read? Also, which one was your favourite? Mine would have to be Nyxia Unleashed!

2018 Reading Wrap Up

So 2018 is over and it is time to talk about how my reading year went!! If you aren’t interested in stats then this probably isn’t the post for you but I thought this might be interesting.

So first, I read 177 books in 2018!

Next, lets look at the length of the books I read.

Also my average rating on Goodreads. But this is also not 100% accurate as I use half star ratings and Goodreads doesn’t have that ability.

The last stat from Goodreads is what book is the most popular & least popular according to Goodreads.

I also created a chart to display what genres I read in 2018.
Also the small dark blue section is Non-Fiction, for some reason Google Sheets didn’t put a label on it.

So overall, I am really happy with how much I read this year! Obviously towards the end of the year my reading went down due to going back to work & just having so much else on. So that was unfortunate but I’m still happy with having read 177 books!

Copy of Blog titles

How did you go with your reading in 2018? How many books did you read! Let me know in the comments!

October 2018 Wrap Up

Copy of Header Image (5)

So I was on a reread & Mystery kick this month!

Blog titles (1)

As I said this was a month for rereading! I have finally started rereading Harry Potter physically again! I’ve reread a tonne of times on audiobook, but not on physical for at least a year. So, of course, I’ve been loving the reread!
I also read Jackaby which I LOVED. It was such an amazing book! You can find my review HERE!
And lastly for physically read books is Children of Blood and Bone which I read because it was one of the BOTMs for The YA Book Nerds. I haven’t reviewed this one and don’t know if I will but my basic thoughts are I enjoyed it for the most part but a couple things mean I only rated it 4 stars. The main thing I did not like was the romances. I felt they were unnecessary and took away from the plot and the whole women’s empowerment & family themes.

Another 2 rereads! If you didn’t know I am slowly making my way through all the LOTRs world books on audio and last month I read The Two Towers.
I also reread Mask of Shadows. I originally read it on audiobook and as the sequel recently came out I planned on rereading it physically and I did start that but the physical book was just taking forever to actually read. I use the app Bookly so I can track my reading and I know my average reading speed and it was literally double for this book and it was making me not want to actually pick it up because I felt like I was getting nowhere. So instead I listened to the audiobook and flipped along with the book which helped a lot. I still really enjoy this book, it was just something about it that took forever and put me off.
Then as I said above I was on a mystery kick, mainly Hercule Poirot mysteries! I love Poirot and listened to these 3 in about 4 days. I would have listened to more but the delightful Scribd will remove all your saved books and put them in ‘Available Soon’ if they think you are listening to too many audiobooks. I do have a possible hack for this that I will be testing out once they all become available. So I will keep you updated as to whether that actually works in November.

BooktubeAThon 2018 Wrap Up, Mini Reviews & Ready Player One Movie Review

Copy of Header Image (2)

Okay, so this was meant to be a video but I quite frankly have not had the time to film it! And now it has been nearly a week since BookTubeAThon ended. If I get the chance tonight I will try and film it, but anyway, here is a blog post in case I don’t get the chance!

So I completed 5 challenges out of 7. I did not complete the ‘Read a book about something you want to do’ or ‘Read a book while wearing the same hat the whole time’. For the something I want to do challenge, I simply couldn’t find a book. For the hat challenge. I started with reading with a hat on and then quite frankly forgot and then stopped caring. I didn’t care about that challenge that much to begin with as it doesn’t actually challenge the type of reading you are doing, so I really didn’t see the point.

Now onto the challenges I did complete.

Let a coin toss choose your first read

Okay, so I did this. I tossed and got The Dragonet Prophecy by Tui T Sutherland. I started the book & then decided to DNF as it just felt too childish for me. So then I swapped to the other option I had for the coin toss.

Rating: 4 stars

I wrote a short review for this one on Goodreads which I will link below but a quick overview. This book was a fun and quick read. It involves books that come to life and it is quite amusing.
However, there was a subplot of the Main Characters parents separating that I simply did not like how it was handled. The message it kinda sends to kids is that if you push hard enough then your parents will magically realise they do love each other and get back together. I don’t think that is a good message to send as in most cases that simply does not happen. I was hoping this book would be a good representation of separating parents and possibly help someone who is going through that by seeing how the MC deals with it but that simply was not the case.

Goodreads Review

Read and watch a book to movie adaptation

Book rating: 5 stars
Movie rating: 4.5 stars
The Movie as a book to movie adaptation: 2 stars

Okay, so I love this book. It was a reread for me. I highly recommend the audiobook, it is narrated by Wil Wheaton and is fabulous.
I did enjoy the movie, HOWEVER, it is very VERY different from the book. The main theme of the book stays the same in the movie. The creator dies and leaves an Easter Egg in the game, to get it you have to acquire 3 different keys throughout the game for a player to discover and whoever does wins his fortune and ownership of the game. There is also a ‘bad guy’ organisation trying to win it that will end up ruining the game if they get ownership. So that is the same. EVERYTHING else is completely different. Everything from how the characters meet, to the things they have to do to get the keys, to the whole feel of the book/movie is different. The book is an ode to vintage video games & 80s Pop Culture. However, the movie is a lot more concentrated on nowadays gaming. There is 1 vintage video/arcade game seen being played in the whole movie & there is only one major mention of something from the 80s and that is the movie The Shining, which I don’t even remember being mentioned in the book. There were a couple other things like King Kong, Godzilla and Back to the Future, but they were more just seen rather than really part of the story. So that was disappointing. I love the 80s feel of the book. I’m not an 80s kid but I still loved the feel of the book. The movie really looses that.
Also, there is one MAJOR plot point that happens in the book, it was devastating and made you angry as hell while reading but it simply didn’t happen in the movie. I kinda like that is doesn’t happen as it is sad but still they just completely changed EVERYTHING.
By itself the movie is great but as an adaptation, nope, not at all.

Read a book with green on the cover

A1DcwxGrlKL

This book has very little green, but hey it counts.

Rating: 4 stars

Okay, so this book is a little all over the place. I can definitely say it is intense and unique. The world and plot were really interesting and there was always something new and unexpected going on. I can’t say it is a new favourite but I definitely had fun reading it and there were a few good quotes I caught. I only wrote one down though as I did listen to the audiobook so it is a bit hard to easily record a quote like you could on a physical or eBook.

I’ll add the full quote as I love Riley’s comment as well as the one from the MC at the end.

“Okay, but you guys were always eating somewhere bizarre. I don’t want to eat food from Thailand or India or wherever. Who even knows what’s in there? Why couldn’t you eat something normal?”
“We can’t all subsist on buttered noodles and self-righteousness,” Riley growls.
“And, for fuck’s sake, stop using normal as code for white,” I snap. “Your life isn’t the ruler that the rest of the world gets measured against.”

Read a book with a beautiful spine

51CqGUHhJPL._SX323_BO1,204,203,200_

I don’t have a pic of the spine but it’s half blue, half white and has stars on it. I basically just sat on my bed, looked at my TBR shelves and picked the spine that looked the nicest.

Rating: 3.5 stars

As for this book, I can’t say I enjoyed it as much as I did Caraval. I didn’t review this but to give you an overview: I found it predictable and that was one of my main issues. This whole book revolves around discovering who Legend really is and I guessed it like 15% into the book. It’s not that hard to guess. So that took away from the wow/mysterious factor of the book. The romance was just so meh. I think the main issue with the romance was the MC, Tella. She was just predictable and dull, so that affected the romance. She also has 0 willpower. She would keep trying to be strong and saying ‘no I can’t fall for….’ and then turn into a lovesick teenager whenever they entered the room. It was monotonous and irritating. Tella was also just annoying, she was a bit better than Scarlett in Caraval but not much. So yeah I wasn’t impressed with this book.

Read 7 books

So I had to read 3 extra books to make up the 7.

This was the book that was originally meant for the hat challenge but I stopped caring.

Rating: 3.5 stars

This one I did do a full spoiler-free review on which you can find HERE!

51d3sEZrwRL._SL320_

Rating: 4.5 stars

At first, I wasn’t enjoying this book. It felt boring and predictable. Then it takes some very dark and messed up twists and turns and I ended up really enjoying it. I feel like this was done on purpose, it drags you into this false sense of security and then BAM murder and shit! The ending was not predictable AT ALL and definitely not dull in the slightest. Very entertaining read! If you are having trouble with it at the beginning, just wait, trust me.

This is a short middle grade fantasy that is pretty fun. It basically starts with at a certain age all kids go through this ceremony type thing to discover whether they will get a spirit animal. It has a similar vibe to Ice Wolves by Amie Kaufman, but in that one, they touch something and possibly turn into an animal whereas this one they drink something and possibility get a spirit animal, not turn into one.
This book is very short (only 224 pages) so it didn’t have a huge plot but it was enough to keep me interested and the world is intriguing, so I will definitely continue on in the series. This series has 7 books all by different authors (Brandon Mull, Maggie Stiefvater, Garth Nix, Shannon Hale, Tui T Sutherland, Eliot Schrefer & Marie Lu) and I think all following different characters maybe? I’m not 100% sure as I’ve only read the 1 and I prefer not to read Synopsis’s but each cover has different animals on it, except the last where they all seem to come together.

July 2018 Wrap Up

Header Image (14)

So July is over and here are all the books I read during July.

But first, I will not be making a July Wrap up & August TBR video on my channel. That is because between by my TBR Jar, Tome Topple & Biannual Bibliothon Wrap Ups that is all the books I read. And between BookTubeAThon & Magical ReadAThon, that is most of the books I plan to read in August. But I still wanted to do my usual Wrap Up, TBR, Haul & Anticipated Releases on my blog.

Blog titles (1)

Legendary I am actually reading atm. This Mortal Coil & King of Ashes I have had to put down because of ReadAThons. Bygone Badass Broads I am slowly making my way through as it is a heap of small stories.
