Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world . . .

Welcome, welcome to Caraval―Stephanie Garber’s sweeping tale of two sisters who escape their ruthless father when they enter the dangerous intrigue of a legendary game.

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nevertheless becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever.

Well first off I don’t own the edition shown above, I own the UK Hardcover but I am yet to find a image of it’s cover online that isn’t a tiny image and can’t be expanded without going blurry! So I will enter a photo from my Instagram below that shows it in part of my April Haul image!

I love how there was 4 different designs on the Hardcovers that you could get, I got the circus tent, but there was also the top hat, a dress and a clock! I really wanted the clock but as I ordered online I couldn’t really pick which one I received, so I had to live with the one I got haha.

I love the design on the front cover, it’s simple but also nice. I also like that the spine is half black and half white as the front cover it black and the back is white!

I really enjoyed the writing, it was simple and easy and quick to read. The writing drew me in and made me not want to put the book down. At the end of nearly every chapter there was something there that just made you want to know what was coming next! I like how the letters were added into the book and looked like actual letters, not just part of the book. And I also like that each person’s handwriting on the letters was so different! I love that they added a map of Caraval! I don’t full understand where these balconies were, because in the book it says they were all around but on the map there is buildings on the edge of the map but not all of those buildings had balconies.

The plot was interesting, but also very different and weird! The world was just so curious and odd and I loved exploring it with the characters! The plot basically all twists and turns and alot of the time I thought I had it figured out what was going on and then the next chapter I realised I was completely wrong! I liked how it ended, it was really out there and unexpected especially the bit of info we learn at the end from a certain character I did not see coming. And also that kinda cliffhanger they left us on with that little bit of info in the last letter! That definitely made me want to know what happened next and what deal had been struck up!

Okay so there is only really 1 character that we really get to know and that is our main character Scarlett, I enjoyed her character more towards the end when she started growing and opening up to new possibilities a bit! A lot of the other characters are just such mysteries still! Even Tella is still a bit of a mystery however a little bit is revealed towards the end about what she is actually like and the things that she would do and I do like her character, but I need to know more! I can’t really talk about any others as it would either ruin the mystery of the book or the characters themselves are still a mystery to me.

Overall I thought this book was fun, inventive and interesting! The only reason it didn’t get a 5 star for me was that even though it was an amazing book it didn’t completely blow my socks off. Still a new love though!

Let me know if you have read this and what you thought?!

Also what are you reading atm?!

Please no spoilers without warning in the comments, don’t want to ruin anyone elses reading experience!!

May A YearAThon TBR & Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon Info

Header Image (10)

So I have 2 ReadAThons coming up  very soon. The Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon & the A Year A Thon. I won’t be making a specific TBR for the Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon as there is no challenges, so I will just read whatever I’m up to when it starts and read as much as I can.

I’m posting this TBR now rather than just before the ReadAThon starts because the Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon ends at 10pm on the 30th and the A YearAThon starts 2 hours later at midnight. I will also be writing my blog post for the 30th today which will be a Tag Sunday so that way I won’t have to worry about it on that day. In the 2 hours between Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon and the A YearAThon I will post my wrap up for Dewey’s 24 Hour ReadAThon.

So the May A Year A Thon starts on the 1st and ends on the 7th. The monthly theme is Rereads and the challenge is to read books over 400 pages. I won’t be rereading any books as I want to concentrate on new books more than rereading books.

So onto the books on my TBR. This isn’t a specific TBR, it will more be options of books with 400+ pages that I own or have on eBook.

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Pages: 468

I have just received an email saying that I was approved to get a copy of Carve the Mark through NetGalley. So I will be starting this book next, I don’t know whether that will be before or during the A YearAThon.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Pages: 456

I have a copy of this book on Scribd.

A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess

Pages: 416

I received this book in a The YA Chronicles Subscription box last year and have been meaning to read it ever since. It sounds really interesting and this ReadAThon might be the reason I finally get to it.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Nevernight-Royal-HB-front-White-title (1)

Pages: 429

I bought this ages ago and have been meaning to get to it but just haven’t got around to it yet! I also really want to read something that is written by only Jay Kristoff to see if I like her writing as in Illuminae & Gemina it is hard to tell.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Pages: 407

I have this and the next book coming in the mail from Book Depository so it will partly depend on whether they arrive in time. But this book just sounds so interesting and there is so much hype, I’m so excited to get to it!

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

HateUGive_10-10Snap (1)

Pages: 444

This sounds like such an important book to read at the moment. Granted being Australian this isn’t something that is directly affecting me, but I still really want to read it.

Well that are some of the books that are options for books over 400 pages that I could read from the ReadAThon. I will definitely be reading Carve The Mark after I finish Shadow and Bone. But it will depend on how long it takes me to read Shadow and Bone whether I will be reading it before or during the ReadAThon. If Caraval & The Hate U Give arrive in time they will most likely be the ones I’m most likely to pick up. If they don’t arrive in time then The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer & Nevernight will be highest on my list.

Tag Sunday – The Chocolate Book Tag

Screen Shot 2017-04-16 at 9.50.08 pm

And I’m back for another tag! This one I thought should be easter themed! So that is what I searched and this is what I found!

Here we go!

1) Dark Chocolate – A book with a dark theme/content

I honestly can’t think of a book I have read that has a really dark theme or content, so I’m going with a book that is on my TBR that has dark themes.

2) White Chocolate – A light-hearted/humourous read

3) Milk Chocolate – A book with a lot of hype that you are dying to read

4) Chocolate With a Caramel Centre –  A book that makes you feel gooey on the inside

Well honestly I don’t think of any books as ‘gooey feeling’. So I turned to google and apparently Vampire Academy is a gooey read, I don’t see it but I’ll chuck it up anyway haha

5) A Wafer-Free KitKat – A book that surprised you lately

 6) Snickers – A book you are going nuts about

I don’t really have an answer for this as I’m not ‘going nuts’ about a book right now. I’m going nuts about the Fantastic Beasts movie as I’ve watched it about 5 times in the last 2 weeks!

7) Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream and Marshmallows – A comfort read that you turn to again and again

8) Box of Chocolates – A series that has something for everyone

Because I’ll be doing them every Sunday, I am only going to tag 1 person in each so I’m not tagging the same people all the time! So each week I will tag my latest follower! Hopefully there will be a new ones each week to tag.

My Name Is Daniela

And this is a brand new blog, go and follow!
