Agatha Christie: Read and To Read

New Header Image (20)

So I love reading Agatha Christie books, especially Poirot stories. I used to absolutely love the TV shows too! I also feel like as Agatha Christie books are older they are barely ever talked about in the book blogging & booktube world!

So I thought, why not share some love. In this post, I will be talking about the Agatha Christie books I have read and the ones that are on the top of my TBR list! Of course, I want to read all of them, but I will just share the immediate ones. Also, this will be focusing on the Hercule Poirot series as they are the ones I want to read first. I want to read the Miss Marple ones too, but I’m focusing on Hercule Poirot first. Also, I will be listening to most of these on audiobook as I have really enjoyed the ones I’ve listened to so far and I really enjoy the narrator and also there is a tonne of them on Scribd!

So I’ll start with the well known ones!

And-then-there-were-none-360x560

So, this is one of her standalone’s and it is one of the most intense ones I’ve read so far! You are constantly guessing who is murdering everyone and then everyone is dead and you are still thinking ‘Wait, what?! Who was the murder?!?!’. And no that isn’t a spoiler… It’s in the title!

This one is probably the one that everyone has heard about… So I don’t need to say much. This was the first Hercule Poirot book I read and loved it! Even though I had seen it on, I think, TV but it had been a while ago. So I was still really invested in the mystery of this one!

Now onto the lesser known ones!

x500 (1)

Trains again! This one I was a little iffy going into because I was thinking it might be similar to Murder on the Orient Express, but I was so wrong. Yes, it is a mystery on a train, but it was completely different and was still so gripping.

16339

Just a note first, this one has two names! There are different names on the US editions & UK editions I think. It is also known as Murder at Hazelmoor. This one was so good! This one uses a ‘paranormal experience’ to set the murder up, so it was really unique. All of Agatha Christie’s books are so unpredictable!

2ae5dd36c6b71f81159876f325811719

This was my most recent Agatha Christie read and it was really good too. It was a little different as instead of Poirot coming in before or just after the murder, this one is set 16 years after the murder. Even with no physical evidence Poirot swoops in and discovers the truth and it’s amazing.

New Blog Title (26)

Okay, so I won’t be posting any info about these as I do not read synopsis’s for Agatha Christie books as I don’t want to know anything! I will link the Goodreads for them all below so you can check out the goodreads synopsis if you want to know what they are about.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
The Big Four
Evil Under the Sun
Poirot Investigates
Murder in Mesopotamia
Death on the Nile
The Murder on the Links
Cat Among the Pigeons

I’m really keen for Poirot Investigates as it will be the first book of short stories I read by Agatha Christie. So I’m keen to see how that one goes!

Top 5 Wednesday – Authors You Want to Read More From

Header Image (9)

This Meme is hosted by Thoughts On Tomes and the prompts can be found on Goodreads.

This week’s prompt is: Authors You Want to Read More From

1. Agatha Christie

I have read And Then There Were None & Murder on the Orient Express and really enjoyed both of them! Her writing and writing style is just amazing and I plan to read a lot more of her books!

2. Laini Taylor

I have read Strange the Dreamer and absolutely loved it! I wanted to read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series for a while but since reading Strange the Dreamer I want to read it even more now!

3. Sarah J. Maas

I have only read A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I’m currently waiting for A Court of Mist & Fury to arrive from Book Depository and have also Pre-ordered A Court of Wings and Ruin and plan to read them together. I enjoyed A Court of Thorns and Roses, it wasn’t absolutely amazing but everyone claims that A Court of Mist & Fury is even better, so I’m yet to see. I also own Throne of Glass and plan to read it. There is still 2 more books to come out in this series, so I will most likely leave it for a while yet so that way there isn’t a tonne of time between reading the ones that are out and waiting for the next books to come out.

4. Marissa Meyer

The only book by Marissa Meyer I have read is Heartless and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my favourite. But that wasn’t because of Marissa Meyer’s writing, it was more because of the fact that it was a prequel of sorts to Alice in Wonderland and that meant that nothing was unexpected or unpredictable and I dislike predictable books.. So that I think just wasn’t the book for me. But I really want to try her The Lunar Chronicles series!

5. Jay Kristoff

I have read the first two books in The Illuminae Files and I can’t wait for the next book Obsidio. I haven’t read  any book solely by him as The Illuminae Files is Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff and also The Illuminae Files is not a good book to judge someone’s writing skills on because it’s so different from a normal novel. I own Nevernight and I really need to get to reading this book. If I enjoy Nevernight then I will consider reading his The Lotus War series.

Tag Sunday – The Nintendo Book Tag

Screen Shot 2017-04-09 at 10.22.00 pm

So I’m back for another tag! I didn’t do my Discussion post on friday as I worked, had a nap and then went to the pub and didn’t get home till 3 the next morning. I might try and do it sometime this week if I’m bored, but if not I will be back on Friday for this weeks Discussion Friday! I also haven’t been doing Goodreads Monday that much as it’s just getting a bit boring!

Now onto the questions!

1. NES (NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM): A CLASSIC YOU WANT TO READ

Well for this I’m choosing more of an author and that is Agatha Christie! I want to read as many as I can of her works! I will only show a couple I want to read!

2. SNES (SUPER NINTENDO): A SEQUEL YOU LIKED MORE THAN THE FIRST (CAN BE A SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES)

9780373212194.indd

I don’t really know if I have an answer for this question as nothing comes to mind when read this..

4. GAMECUBE: A POPULAR BOOK THAT DID NOT GO OVER SO WELL WITH YOU

5. WII: A NEW FAVORITE BOOK

6. NINTENDO POWER: FAVORITE GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES OR A SERIES YOU WANT TO START

I don’t read graphic novels, so I don’t have an answer for this!

7. SUPER MARIO: A CHARACTER THAT YOU’D LOVE TO SQUISH LIKE A GOOMBA

Kadir, he is just a dick.

Traitor_to_the_Throne-667x1024

8. ZELDA: A NEWER FANTASY THAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE A MODERN CLASSIC

I don’t really understand this question completely. I’m assuming it means a fantasy that you think could be a classic one day?? As Modern and classic are basically opposites and I’ve never understood that..

Even though it’s a screenplay I think this could be a classic purely because it’s link to Harry Potter!

9. SAMUS-ARAN: FAVORITE SCI-FI NOVEL OR ONE YOU WANT TO READ

Favourite Sci-Fi Novel on left and want to read on right

10. POKEMON: BOOK EDITIONS THAT YOU WANT TO COLLECT

I already have 2 different editions of the Hogwarts Library set, but I think that one is just beautiful, I have only seen it a couple times though!

11. DONKEY KONG: A BOOK WITH ORIGINAL CHARACTERS

MissPeregrineCover

12. NINTENDO FANDOM: FAVORITE NINTENDO GAME(S) OR GAME

I really enjoy Agatha Christie books! True I have only read 2 so far, but I have loved both a lot! I really want to read more but I have currently put a ban on myself for buying books, so it will have to wait for a little while.

Cover Art:

There are tonnes of covers for this book as it has been out for over 80 years! I do really like the one I own, however I feel like there should be more snow around considering. But overall I really like this cover!

Writing:

Agatha Christie’s writing is amazing and I cannot fault it. I really like how mysterious everything is kept right until the end! I do kinda wish that there was a glossary of sorts for translation of some of the words used in the book as even though they were specifically necessary to know the meaning of, I was curious and kept googling things to find out what they meant. That is the only thing I wish this book had, but it’s not necessary.

Plot:

Well I won’t speak of the plot much as I don’t want to give anything away as the entirety of the plot leads to the end conclusion. However I do want say that I agree with M. Bouc  & Poirot’s decision at the end. I know alot of people didn’t believe this was right to do, but I do, even though it’s not specifically the law abiding way.

Characters:

I feel like these books aren’t books that you can really form an opinion of the characters, as besides Poirot himself  you only find out pure facts about the characters and can’t really form a personal opinion on that. So I won’t say much about them, however I really enjoy Poirot and I really wish that I could figure things out like he does!

Overall:

I really enjoyed this book! I love reading mysteries even though I don’t read them as much as I do Fantasy. I really want to read more though! I also think that this book is a good starting book for someone starting into Agatha Christie’s works!

April 2017 TBR

Screen Shot 2017-03-30 at 12.48.42 pm

So most of these books will be the same as March’s TBR! I had planned to read all of those books, and then I got approved for 2 eGalley books. So I read them instead and the first book in the Everlife series so that I could actually read Lifeblood and know what was going on. I’m not requesting any eGalleys for a while as quite simply there isn’t anything interesting to request that is available to Australians that I have seen. So I will try and stay on this months TBR!!

Yes I am relistening to the Harry Potter Series AGAIN!

What I Want To Read In April

I did have The Diabolic on last months TBR, but I also want to read more books that can go towards the Beat The Backlist challenge which is to read books that weren’t released this year, so instead I have put A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas instead.

The Return Of The King by J.R.R. Tolkien

Don’t know if I will get to it this month as I am relistening to the Harry Potter series again, but I might listen to it at some point.

Well that is all! Now I’m going to go and read more of Traitor To The Throne! It’s been raining for the last 2 days as the leftovers of Cyclone Debbie heads towards South East Queensland. I don’t know if any of my followers are fellow Queenslanders, but if you are I hope everyone is okay and be careful as the flash flooding in Brisbane, Toowoomba, etc is getting pretty dangerous. Thank goodness we live in a small town that is on a hill. Our creek may flood, but it never actually comes into town! Stay safe everyone!

What’s on your TBR for April??
