This Year I Am Reading…
The Silence of Bones by June Hur
I am currently 30% into The Silence of Bones and I am super intrigued by the plot and very keen for the murder mystery to be revealed! I am really enjoying this one so far and hopefully that continues.
Last Year I Was Reading…
Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan
Tiger Queen was good but also a very forgettable book. I remember liking it and I vaguely remember the big end scene but VAGUELY. I also remember that I didn’t review it straight away and left it a couple weeks and then literally couldn’t remember what I liked or disliked about. So yeah, definitely didn’t leave an impression.
I think I’m enjoying The Silence of Bones more than I did Tiger Queen. It’s a super engaging story and really dragging me in! So I’m loving it and keen to continue!

This Year I Am Reading…
This one is a reread for me! I’m rereading Salt to the Sea for a buddy read and I love it! It’s so emotional and interesting and I am just really loving reading this one again.
Last Year I Was Reading…
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Do I really need to mention my love for Illuminae?! Last Year I was rereading this baby for the 4th time. I think that about sums it up. Illuminae is amazing and I especially love the format & the audiobooks are incredible!
I’m going to have to go with Illuminae for this week. I do love Salt to the Sea but Illuminae just has a special place in my heart. Salt to the Sea is a very important story though and I highly recommend checking it out! Also both these books have incredible audiobooks and both have full cast narration as well!

This Year I Am Reading…
A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow
I am currently 114 pages into A Song Below Water for a buddy read and really enjoying it. There hasn’t been tonnes of action or anything yet as it’s mostly been world building & showing the characters but I am still enjoying it. I love that the author has mixed the hate & fear of Sirens in with Black culture. Which is of course an important topic at the moment! So far I am loving how this book is dealing with certain topics and I’m keen to really get into the plot.
Last Year I Was Reading…
Immunity by Erin Bowman
Immunity was actually super disappointing even if it was a pretty decent book. Immunity is book 2 to Contagion which I absolutely LOVED! It is an extremely creepy sci-fi that literally had me on the edge of my seat and I read in 1 day! While Immunity was a decent book and action packed and fun it just did not live up to Contagion. Immunity was good but Immunity was AMAZING. So disappointing but a good book.
For comparison I am definitely enjoying A Song Below Water right now more than I was enjoying Immunity last year thanks to that disappointment. If Immunity was on the same level as Contagion then it would definitely be higher ranking but it just didn’t live up to it.

This Year I Am Reading…
Misfit City: Vol 2 by Kirsten Smith, Kurt Lustgarten & Naomi Franquiz
This year I am reading Misfit City: Vol 2 and loved it! The Misfit City Graphic Novels are so fun, kinda creepy and full of action. I have loved the whole thing and just had so much fun reading them!
Last Year I Was Reading…
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
This time last year I was listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This was of course a reread for me and I obviously love this book!
It’s hard to compare anything to Harry Potter, so while I did love Misfit City, of course I loved Harry Potter more. Harry Potter is my all time favourite series, so it doesn’t really compare. I do highly recommend Misfit City though!!

Yes, I am jumping back on the Top Ten Tuesday band wagon but it may not be every week. I’m just planning on jumping in when I enjoy the prompt of the week. So these will be pretty random.

Today we are going to be talking about 10 Graphic Novels that I think you should check out! All of these except 1 I have read more than 1 volume of (except the ones that are just one book) so I feel like I have read enough to give you are proper recommendation! So, let’s jump in!
I have read Vol 1 & Vol 2 of The Backstagers but am yet to read Vol 3. The backstagers is a fun action packed contemporary with a hidden magical world behind the curtains! Our main character transfers to an all boys school where he doesn’t feel like he fits in. Until he finds his place as part of the Backstagers and discovers this hidden underground world. Highly recommend if you are after a fun & fantasy read!
I have read Heartstopper Volume 1, Volume 2 & Volume 3. Volume 4 is set to release Feb 2021! This is a cute LGBT+ romance and it is just such a fun and wholesome read! This also follows characters that feature in some of Alice Oseman’s other books, so if you love her other books then it’s definitely worth checking it out! Highly recommend if you are looking for a cute & very quick Graphic Novel.
Mooncakes is such a gorgeous stand alone Graphic Novel! This one is a YA Fantasy and features a tonne of representation. The main character lives with her Lesbian Witch Grandmothers and wears a hearing aid. There is also a female/female romance featured! So plenty of rep for such a short story! Mooncakes follows Nova who lives and works at her grandmothers bookshop. She goes to investigate sightings of a white wolf in the woods only to discover her childhood crush, Tam, a werewolf, battling a horse demon. Tam turns to Nova for help against dark forces which are after her wolf magic. I highly recommend checking out Mooncakes if you are after a LGBT+ witchy fantasy book!
Pumpkinheards by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks
This is another super fun read! Pumpkinheads is a standalone contemporary and perfect for the autumn (fall) season. This one follows Deja & Josiah on their last shift at the Pumpkin Patch where they have been working every autumn of high school. Josiah wants to spend the night feeling melancholy about it being their last shift but Deja comes up with a plan that involves seeing every sight & tasting every snack! If you are looking for a fun, wholesome & autumn feeling read then this is definitely the one for you!
I have read Misfit City: Vol 1 and loved it and I’m hoping to read Vol 2 this month! Misfit City is a kinda creepy adventure story where the characters go on the hunt to find pirate treasure. I highly recommend this if you need an adventure which is a little creepy. This is another one that would be good for the autumn season as it’s got those creepy elements!
I have read Heavy Vinyl: Riot on the Radio but I didn’t know until brainstorming for this video that there is actually now a follow up book called Heavy Vinyl: Y2K-0!. So I will be going and reading that one soon! I do highly recommend the first one though! This one follows Chris who has just joined the staff of a local record store. The staff’s favourite singer mysteriously disappears the night before a big show in town and Chris learns that the record shore is just a front for a teen girl vigilante fight club! This is just such a cool idea and I loved every minute. This is a mystery and is super action packed & fun to read.
I don’t think I need to describe this one. As far as I know this follows the events of the TV show, so if you love the Avatar Show then I highly recommend picking this one up!
This one is an Adult Fantasy series that is a tad brutal & intense. The Wicked + The Divine follows 12 gods incarnate as humans. That is literally all you need to know! This series is amazing but as it is adult it has some sexual and gory content that could be troubling for some readers, so be careful.
Giant Days is a Fun YA Contemporary that is about three girls that make fast friends when they start University. This series follows the chaos that is their life in university. It’s funny, action packed and crazy.
MAUS is a Historical Non-Fiction story that follows the life of Art Spiegelman’s grandfather during the Holocaust as a Jewish man. This is a hard hitting but amazing story but it’s definitely not an easy read. There is no sugar coating things in the story and I love that about it. I also love the art style and that the illustrator used different animals to represent different groups (jews, Germans, Pols, Russians, etc.). This made it easy to follow and understand. I highly recommend this book if you are a looking for a WWII Historical book!

This Year I Am Reading…
Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
I am currently 101 pages into Wolf by Wolf and I am enjoying it! This is a super interesting story based on World War 11 but with a small fantastical element. I LOVE WW11 based books and this is definitely the most unique one I have read so far. I can’t wait to keep reading and see how everything is going to play out.
Last Year I Was Reading…
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Wilder Girls, I rated 3 stars and I did review this one so you can find that HERE! This one was a huge disappointment for me! The only thing I enjoyed was the setting which was very creepy and atmospheric. The plot, characters and writing in general though all felt very flat. I couldn’t connect with the characters and couldn’t really get invested in the plot at all. The romance was a big no for me as well as. It felt super forced and like it was only thrown in their half heartedly to make sure there was LGBT+ diversity in the book.
So, I’m definitely loving my current read, so far, a lot more than my read from last year! I can’t wait to keep reading Wolf by Wolf.

This round will go from the 1st to 31st of May 2020
The map for Round 3 is based on the map of Medora from The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni! You do not need to have read The Medoran Chronicles to participate or understand the ReadAThon! I just love the map, so decided to recreate it and use it for the ReadAThon!
Map
So, firstly, the map!
So, the aim of the ReadAThon is to journey from Haroyell in the West to Nialas in the North East. You may choose whichever path you please & depending on the path chosen you will either read between 6 or 8 books as the paths vary in length. Each team does however have an ability and some of these abilities make you be able to complete the path by reading less books. But more on that later. Next, the prompts!
Reading Challenges
Teams
There are 5 teams each with a unique ability. Each team is based off one of the Races that are present in The Medoran Chronicles. So let’s chat about those and I’ll also give a brief description on each for those that haven’t read the books!
Human Mortal beings – No special powers Ability: Use 1 book for 2 locations as long as those locations are directly connected on the map. Ex: You could use 1 book to complete Woodhaven & Tryllin but not to complete Woodhaven & Ezera Forst
Meyarin Immortal beings – Physically Powerful, Swift, sharp eyesight & perfect memory Ability: Skip one location on your path but you will not gain points from this skipped location. You CANNOT skip Haroyell or Nialas as these are the Start & Finishing points.
Tia Auran Immortal Beings – Telekinetic Powers Ability: Receive double points for any challenge completed. This can be used on any locations prompt including Haroyell & Nialas as long as the book you read fits the challenge.
Shadow Walkers Power to control Shadow Ability: Jump from one path to another. You can jump from any location on your current path (Excluding Haroyell) to any location on another path. You CANNOT jump ahead on the same path. Ex. you could travel: Haroyell > Meya > *JUMP* > Hallowgate > Nialas.
Dayriders Power to control light Ability: Complete a location with ANY book even if it doesn’t fit the prompt. This can be used on any location including Haroyell & Nialas. Audiobook, Graphic Novel, Short Stories, comic, eBooks, etc. all count! If it’s on Goodreads it can be counted.
Points
You earn points from reading pages & completing challenges. There will also be ways to earn points through photo challenges on Insta & Reading Sprints on Twitter!
It is up to the participant to keep their section of the Points Tracker up to date to earn points for your team. Points are calculated on an average so that even if one team has more members than another there will be a fair chance of winning.
There will be 4 photo challenges throughout the ReadAThon! These challenges will be announced on Saturdays on both Instagram & Twitter and you will have till Friday to post your challenge in order to earn points. You MUST use the hashtag #JourneyAThonIG to receive points. These points are added by the host, so all you need to do is post the photo & use the hashtag.
Reading Sprints
I will be hosting Reading Sprints on the Fantasy JourneyAThon Twitter. These will be random, so if you wish to participate & don’t want to miss out you can turn on post notifications for the Fantasy JourneyAThon Twitter. That way you will get a notification when sprints are held.
Well, I think that is all the info you need! If you have questions feel free to comment them below or message me on he Fantasy JourneyAThon Twitter or Insta!

Soooo, today I am bringing you guys a BRAND NEW READATHON! That’s right another ReadAThon and this one completely new! I have been wanting to do this ReadAThon for AGES, but I didn’t know how to really go about it, so over the past few months I have been brainstorming how to go about it and creating the map and it’s finally all fallen together. And here it is!
When?
21st – 30th of June 2019!
How to?
Firstly, here is the map!
The Map break down: Option 1: New Beijing > Shoel 1 > Kalyazin > Hogwarts Option 2: Medora > Emberfall > Dustwalk > Hogwarts Option 3: New Reynes > Ellingham Academy > The Shire > Hogwarts Option 4: The Ice Court > Fennbirn > Cabeswater > Hogwarts
So for this Round your goal is to JOURNEY to Hogwarts! So pick a starting point (The Ice Court, New Beijing, Medora or New Reynes) and follow the footprints, completing the challenges along the way, until you make it to Hogwarts!
So the aim is to complete 4 books! However do not let me stop you! Journey ahead if you wish once you have arrived at Hogwarts! Borrow a Thestral and Journey on to Dustwalk or commandeer the Durmstrang ship and flee to The Ice Court. Once you reach Hogwarts, the path is up to you!
The Locations?
So incase you were curious or not familiar with some of these locations, here are what books each of these locations are from!
New Beijing – The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer Shoel 1 – The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon Kalyazin – Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan Medora – The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni Emberfall – A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer Dustwalk – Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton New Reynes – Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody Ellingham Academy – Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson (I realise that this is not a Fantasy book but this Academy feels like a Fantasy, so I’m counting it! Also it’s my ReadAThon and I can do what I like 😂) The Shire – The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien The Ice Court – Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Fennbirn – Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake Cabeswater – The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater Hogwarts – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
The Challenges?
New Beijing – Read a Sci-Fi Book
Sheol 1 – Read a Dystopian Book
Kalyazin – Read a book with Blood on the Cover OR Read a book with a Red Cover
Medora – Read a book with the ‘Chosen One’ Trope
Emberfall – Read a Retelling/Reimagining
Dustwalk – Read a book about a Rebellion
New Reynes – Read a book that has a Card Suit on the cover (Heart, Spade, Diamond or Club)
Ellingham Academy – Read a Mystery Book

The Ice Court – Read a book following ‘Criminals’
Fennbirn – Read a book with Multiple POV
Cabeswater – Read a book that involves a King
Hogwarts – Read a book that is set in a Magical School
Bonus Info: You can use the Book/Series in which the Location comes from for that Locations challenge! For Example you could Read Ace of Shades for the New Reynes challenge as Ace of Shades has a Card Suit on the cover! This method works with all of the Challenges!
