It’s finally time to discuss the Best Books I read in 2022 and reveal THE BEST book! I’ve narrowed it down to a top 10 though I will have a section at the end for honourable mentions as well! These are in no particular order excluding THE BEST which I will discuss last!

Would it be a Best Books of the year post without a Seanan McGuire on here? Where the Drowned Girls Go was an interesting addition to the series. I loved exploring the Whitethorn institute and watching a badass group of characters come together to rebel against oppression. These books are always such a thrill and I enjoyed meeting you new characters and seeing some old favourites.
The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea was a surprising read. I went into it with little expectation having not even heard of it before it came in a Fairyloot box. I soon fell in love with these characters! The world was so intricate and enticing. The story was full of twists and turns that I loved. It was heartbreaking and fulfilling at the same time. Highly recommend!
What a wild ride The World Between Blinks was! This one is a super fun Middle Grade fantasy full of adventure. I love Amie Kaufman’s writing so I was interested to see what her & Ryan Graudin could bring to the table and I was not disappointed. The characters are incredible, the world is deep and fascinating and the action was on point! If you’re looking for a fun, easy adventure then this is definitely worth checking out!

The Final Gambit was one of my most anticipated sequels of the year and it did not disappoint! The mystery is so intricately detailed and weaved around so many characters that this is definitely one I need to reread a couple times as I know each time I reread it I will find more hints and information sprinkled throughout that I didn’t notice before. I love these characters but more than that I love the mystery itself! I’m so glad we are getting another book in this series!
Yet another highly anticipated sequel was Crimson Reign and it also did not disappoint! Crimson Reign was an EPIC conclusion to this series. This world & magic system is so intricate and detailed. I am so sad this series is over but I’m also so freaking excited to read, Song of Silver, Flame Like Night, the first book in her new series!
Is this the first time I have put a non-fiction on my Best Books list? Possibly! Messy Roots is a Graphic Memoir about a Wuhanese American living in America. It follows different points in her life but I found it all fascinating and empowering. The quote at the very end of this one has also stuck with me long after finishing this book!
So I’ll grow my home from the ground up using the roots I’ve nurtured with the people I love. There’s still so much about myself I’ve yet to explore. But right now, I’m Laura Yuyang Gao. And my world is tall and mighty, like the skies. Infinite and mysterious, like the cosmos. And peaceful and safe, like the sea. And I’ll bring it all with me, wherever I go next.

Another fun middle grade that made it to my top books was The Book Sellers Apprentice. This is a companion to The Grandest Bookshop in the World which I read last year and absolutely loved! Firstly I love books about books and this one follows a young boy who starts apprenticing at a peculiar little bookshop in a market in Melbourne. The magical world that Amelia Mellor creates based on real places in Australia are so fun and interesting. This one was action packed & thrilling! I have seen mention of another companion book in this world which I am very excited about!
We all know I’m lover of everything Agatha Christie but what about a mystery following someone who also loves Agatha Christie and uses her knowledge of Miss Marple & Hercule Poirot’s methods to solve a murder? Hell yeah! The Agathas was soo freaking good and I loved all the Agatha Christie references, including the Agatha Christie quote a the start of every chapter! Besides that though the mystery was full of twists and turns. It left me guessing every time and the reveal was shocking! I also adored these characters and apparently we will get to see more of them as apparently we are getting a sequel!
Lastly for this section of the list we have Blade of Secrets. I was a bit apprehensive of this one as while I loved Daughter of the Pirate King/Daughter of the Siren Queen & The Shadows Between Us I wasn’t the hugest fan of Warrior of the Wild. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed it but it didn’t blow me away like the others. This one however go the blown away status, as did the sequel Master of Iron. Which honestly could have gone on this list too but I thought one book per series was enough and also helped in the narrowing down to a top 10 part haha.
The Best Book of 2022!
Firstly I didn’t read anything in August due to a reading slump which is why it’s left blank.
And the winner is…

Yes, The Lost Apothecary! A book I picked up on a whim because the cover was gorgeous and someone told me it was a mystery with dual timelines where the mystery branches over both timelines. Which happens to be one of my favourite types of books. I was blown away by this book. Firstly as I said above I love this type of book already but also the characters and the world were both so detailed and incredible. The mystery was full of twists and turns and I absolutely adore the dual timeline. The audiobook narration was also very well done. I will definitely be rereading this one physically some time in the near future!
Honourable Mentions

I loved The Lost Apothecary as well! And I loved the fact that it had recipes in the back. I made the rosemary butter cookies for my blog, and they were delicious. And The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea has a gorgeous cover.

Wait!!! It does? I listened to the audiobook and then bought a copy later on. Will need to check that out. 😳
And that cover is stunning! Even the US edition is gorgeous too.
