🎞 May Reading & TV Wrap Up! 📚

May is done & dusted and I read very little! Don’t get me wrong! I did read 9 books (8 audiobooks & 1 Graphic Novel) but all of that happened between the start of the month & the 14th. I haven’t finished anything since. I’ve been busy but also been in a bit of a slump. I’ve been struggling keeping focus on a specific book & kind of bouncing around but not actually finishing anything. At the time of writing this I have 3 books that I’m ‘currently reading’ but also not actively reading any of them…. So yes it’s been fun. Even audiobooks haven’t been it. I’ve just not been interested to start any lately. Instead of reading I have been binging shows on Netflix so I thought I would include those in my wrap up! Granted I don’t really track the shows I watch like I do for books read so a couple of these I think I may have watched towards the very end of April but oh well! Let’s jump in!

Audiobook

Yes I binged all of Alice Oseman’s books on audiobook after watching Heartstopper 3 times and rereading the graphic novels. I love them all. This Winter is probably my least favourite & I Was Born for This my Fave, closely followed by Solitaire!

Yes another Alice Oseman…. Moving on. After my Alice Oseman kick I picked up some other LGBTQ+ books including The Music of What Happens (4 stars) & Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens (3.5 stars) which were both super fun. Then I swapped to a YA mystery which while predictable was still a bit of a wild ride with an interesting format.

Graphic Novel

Bloom by Kevin Panetta & Savanna Ganucheau

Only one graphic novel this month but it was a pretty fun one. I rated it 3 stars, so obviously not a fave but definitely not a bad read. I think it lost out a little purely because I read it just after rereading Heartstopper which is one of my all time faves sooooo….

Shows

Firstly we have Young Royals which after binging Heartstopper 3 times I went on the hunt for something similar and this one came up in a list online of shows to watch similar to Heartstopper. I will admit it is really nothing like Heartstopper outside the M/M romance & school setting. Young Royals is a lot darker & has more adult themes including sex, drug use, death, etc. Still loved it though and so glad they got approved for season 2!

Then I watched Fate: The Winx Saga which was a bit of a wild ride. Like most of the shows I watched in May, I had no idea what it was about before starting. It just looked interesting. Wasn’t dissapointed though & keen for Season 2!

Next was seasons 1 & 2 of The Order. At this point I had watched 3 shows with only 1 season and I went hunting for something with at least two seasons so I didn’t get to the ‘oh shit it’s over but I need answers!’ part too quickly. This one wasn’t my fave for the month. Alyssa, one of the main characters kinda pissed me off and there were times where it was kind of ridiculous but still a fun time. Not bad but not my favourite either.

Then two shows in a row that are based off YA books! Cursed has been on my radar for a while & I do own the book but I was planning on reading the book before watching the show but then when I finished The Order and was looking for what to start next I said fuck it. It was really good with an action packed plot & enjoyable characters!

Next of course was Shadow & Bone. I actually previously started this one but it was with my ex. We watched episode 1 & maybe a little of 2 and then he got sick of it so we didn’t finish it. So I rewatched what I had and finished this one and quite enjoyed it. I’m not sure how I feel about the Six of Crows/Shadow & Bone mash up. It might turn out okay but at the moment I just don’t know where they are going to go with it. I prefer Six of Crows to Shadow & Bone so it’s sad that they aren’t getting there own spotlight with the heist & stuff. They may incorporate it though, will have to wait & see.

Then I watched Season 1 & 2 of Blood & Water! This one was soo freaking good. There is a fair bit of teenage drama & I don’t know how many times I either said ‘why the fuck would you do that’ & ‘JUST FUCKING TELL HIM THE TRUTH!’… But hey the latter statement I’m pretty sure I end up yelling with basically every show or book I go through. Like just tell the truth from the start mate. Though we wouldn’t have a show/book if the secrecy didn’t play a major part! So it is what it is. I’ve very keen for Season 3! This one ended on a cliff hanger so I am anxious!

Lastly we have The Witcher! I watched Season 1 when it came out and loved it. I finally rewatched Season 1 & then watched Season 2 and it was so good! Another one that ende on a cliff hanger & I am so keen for the next season.

Well that is everything I read & watched in May! Let me know if you are interested in the shows/movies I watch & I will continue including them in my wrap ups!

Thanks for reading! Eliza
