22 Books to read in 2022

It’s that time again! It’s time to share my 22 books in 22 reading challenge! So if you haven’t seen this before it’s basically a challenge were I select 22 books I want to get to in 2022 that are already on my physical TBR. This is to challenge myself to read books that have been on my TBR for a while but also this year I’m using it a little bit differently. Some of the books on this list are ones that are on my physical TBR but I have slightly lost interest in them. So I’m challenging myself to either read them, give them a go but end up DNFing or just unhaul them and move on. Well enough chatting! Let’s jump in!

1. Soulswift by Megan Bannen

Firstly this one was on my 2021 list but I just haven’t gotten there. I’ve been in a bit of a Fantasy slump on and off for most of the year. So that is most of the reason why I haven’t gotten to a few of those. I received Soulswift in a subscription box and it sounded interesting so I held onto it! Hopefully I will get back into Fantasy soon and will be able to read this one.

2. Jade Fire Gold by June CL Tan

This is actually one of the latest editions to my TBR shelves as I got it recently in a Fairyloot box. It sounds really intriguing so I’m keen to get to it soon! It sounds like it may be a bit romance heavy for me which is why I am slightly iffy but besides that it sounds good!

3. Day Zero by Kelly Devos

Day Zero sounds amazing! It’s a sci-fi with dystopian & mystery vibes and I am here for it! This one I picked up on a whim at Big W because it sounded interesting! Hopefully it will blow me away! This one is book 1 in a duology & book 2 is already out so if I love this one I can grab book 2 and start reading straight away!

4. The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

This has been on my TBR too long! The Black Kids is a *sigh* Historical Fiction set in 199s Los Angeles! When did the 90s become historical… I was born in the 90s! Get out! Anyways, this is based on the Rodney King Riots and is recommended for fans of THUG which I loved! So I have been really keen for it! I’ve just been in a mystery thriller mode lately, so I haven’t gotten to it. Hopefully soon!

5. Nyxia Uprising by Scott Reintgen

This was also on my 2021 list! I did attempt to read it in 2021. I reread books 1 & 2 but for some reason I couldn’t read book 3. I think it was because the audiobook wasn’t available at the time or something like that. Either way I never got to it so I have added it to this list! Hopefully the audiobook is available now and I can get on this!

6. This Golden Flame by Emily Victoria

Another one I got in a subscription box & haven’t read yet. Actually I have 2 copies of this one… Both from subscription boxes… Anyway! This is an LGBT Fantasy and I did NOT read enough LGBT books in 2021! So in 2022 I’m going to try and read more and this will hopefully be one of them!

7. All these Bodies by Kendare Blake

Sixteen bloodless bodies. Two teenagers. One impossible explanation.

All these Bodies Synopsis

Do I need to say more? I am so damn keen for this one! I planned on reading it as soon as it came but I was doing a challenge at the time so couldn’t and then in December I am trying to tick off some of the books on my 2021 list before the end of the year & this wasn’t one of them! So in January I will definitely be prioritising this one!

8. These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

This one sounds really interesting but might be a little too romance heavy for me! This is a Romeo & Juliet retelling set in 1920s Shanghai. Sounds fascinating but we will see how the romance is. I don’t mind romance as long as it’s secondary to the plot and doesn’t become the plot. Which this one might do that….

9. Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston

I love Ashley Poston’s writing so I am really keen for this one! It sounds amazing and looks amazing! This cover is STUNNING! It’s also meant to be a dark fairy-tale inspired fantasy, which, I’m in!

10. Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

This is another one I grabbed n a whim from Big W! It sounds really fascinating & I just love this cover with the double perspective! Hopefully it will be amazing but we will see! Also this is an LGBT Horror Mystery! Sounds perfect to me.

11. Oculta by Maya Motayne

This one has also been on my TBR too long! I absolutely loved the first book! I had every intention of reading this one when it came out in I think April 2021. Then my pre-order didn’t actually arrive until like June or July. By that point I was in a ReadAThon and couldn’t get to it at the time & then I wasn’t reading much fantasy. So it just didn’t happen.

12. Dear Justyce by Nic Stone

This is the sequel to Dear Martin which I read a couple years ago and really enjoyed. These books are written in letters to a prominent Black figure. Like in book 1 which the letter were written to Martin Luther King Jr. Dear Martin was very impactful and a heavy story which is why I know I need to be in the right mood to read this one! Hopefully that will happen soon.

13. Archenemies by Marissa Meyer

Archenemies is the sequel to Renegades which I read a few years ago. I really enjoyed it but it kind of dropped off my radar and I never continued the series. Now books 2 & 3 are out and I need to finish it up. At least I can binge the whole series now that they are all released!

14. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

I have owned this since it released. I have owned book 3 since it released. I still have not read either of them! I need to just jump head first back into this series as it’s been way too long! I literally own both and still have not read them!

15. Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust

So this one is a hard maybe. I read about 90 pages of this one physically and I was struggling. I ‘m not 100% if it was due to my reading mood at the time or just the book. I thought it was my mood, so I put it down as I didn’t want that to effect my enjoyment. I am willing to give it another go though. Likely on audiobook this time as it was a little slow. So I think that format will help.

16. Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake

I have waited way too long to continue this series. I have Books 3 & 4 on my shelf waiting to be read but I just haven’t done it! It needs to happen in 2022! I’m planning on rereading the first two before reading books 3 & 4 as it’s been way too long. I remember the basics but not majority of what happened. So definitely need a reread!

17. The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton

Another that I tried to read in 2021 but didn’t finish. This one is dense, a little slow & really big! I wasn’t in the right mood for it at the time so I put it down. I do think I’m going to enjoy it but I need to dedicate myself to it and when I’m in the right mood for it!

18. Cilka’s Journey by Heather Morris

I now have two unread Heather Morris books on my TBR as I recently picked up her newest releases at Kmart. I loved The Tattooist of Auschwitz. It wasn’t the most amazingly written Historical Fiction I have read but it was impactful & emotional. Hopefully Cilka’s Journey will be just as good!

19. Blade of Secrets by Tricia Levenseller

I have read and enjoyed everything Tricia Levenseller has released! Daughter of the Pirate King is definitely my favourite though! This one sounds incredible and I want to get to it so that when book 2, Master of Iron, releases in July I can pick it up! Aiming to read this one probably around June!

20. Soul of Stars by Ashley Poston

Getting close to the end of the list now! This is another Ashley Poston book I need to read. I read book 1 ages ago and really enjoyed it but it fell off my radar a little bit! I really want to reread Book 1 and then read this one! It’s a duology so once I read this one it’s completed! Hopefully I will be able to tick it off in 2022!

21. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

This is another one I started but didn’t finish. I read about 50% of this one but I just couldn’t get into it and was finding my attention drifting. I was listening on audiobook, so I want to give it a go physically reading instead. We will see how this one goes.

22. Hunted by Megan Spooner

Lastly we have Hunted! I read Sherwood last year I think and really enjoyed it! This one is a Beauty and the Beast retelling & sounds really interesting. Again, haven’t been in a fantasy mood, so haven’t had a chance to pick it up.

We are done! I’ll be posting my update for my 21 books to read in 2021 list in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for that one! Hopefully in 2022 I will complete this challenge & have an amazing update at the end of the year! *fingers crossed*!

What challenges are you doing in 2022?

Thanks for reading! Eliza
