Top 8 πŸ“š YA Sci-Fi Recommendations πŸŽ„ Blogmas Day 8

It’s time for another top 8! Today we are chatting about YA Sci-Fi books. I’ve kept this list to either standalones or series that I’ve read at least 2 books or more of. So, let’s jump in!

1. Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

This is a trilogy but I have read all the books that are currently out & loved them! Aurora Rising follows a squad of graduating cadets lead by Tyler. The Squad he ends up with isn’t exactly what he wanted but none of that matters after they find Aurora who had been trapped in Cyro-Sleep for two centuries.
Aurora Rising is action packed, funny, thrilling & just drags you in and won’t let go! Aurora Burning also ended on a HUGE cliffhanger so I am very impatiently awaiting the release of book 3.

2. This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada

This Mortal Coil is a Dystopian Sci-Fi that follows Catorina. One day a solider arrives at Catorina’s home with news of her fathers death. Her father, Lachlan, was the world’s leading geneticist and the only hope to finding a cure for a deadly virus that was spreading! Catorina discovers a secret, her father created a vaccine but only she can find it and decrypt it.
This Mortal Coil is insanely action packed and unpredictable. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time and I loved every second of it!

3. The llluminae Files by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Illuminae Follows the events of Kerenza, an illegal mining colony when a rival company tries to wipe everyone out. Kady & Ezera, who broke up that morning, are forced to escape with an enemy warship on their tail.
I love The Illuminae Files so much! I’ve read the multiple times and they are just amazing every time. I love that this series is dossier of documents which is just such an unusual format to read but works perfectly for this book! The characters are amazing, the plot is insane and it’s just a wild ride reading this one.

4. Contagion by Erin Bowman

Now, I’m only actually putting book 1 in the series on this recommendations list. Book 2, Immunity, just did no live up to Contagion at all in my opinion, so I can’t really say I recommend both as I would be lying. I recommend just reading contagion. It doesn’t need a sequel in my opinion.
So, Contagion follows a small crew that is dispatched on after an SOS call is received from a work detail on a distant planet. When the crew arrives they find an abandoned site & a heap of dead bodies. They start investigating and discover that some mysteries are best left unsolved.
This book is amazing! This is a Sci-Fi Horror/Thriller and it is definitely thrilling ! I was on the edge of my seat, looking over my shoulder and just straight up creeped out while reading this! It’s action packed and completely unpredictable. If you are on the hunt for a Thriller in a Sci-Fi setting, this is definitely the one!

5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

This one only just made it to this list as I only finished Ready Player Two a couple days ago. Ready Player One of course was amazing but I couldn’t put it on this list without reading book 2, as per my own rules haha.
In Ready Player One the real world isn’t fabulous so everyone lives inside a virtual reality world called the OASIS. The creator of the OASIS died and left behind a game where the players are on the hunt for Halliday’s Egg. Wade, our main character, finds the first clue and suddenly he is a target. Now he is on the hunt for the next clue!
I loved Ready Player One and to be honest I was very nervous about Ready Player Two but I didn’t have to worry as it was also amazing! I highly recommend checking out the audiobook for this one as well as the narrator is amazing and does such a good job. This one is full of pop culture references and while it can be slower as there is a lot of info discussed it was still really interesting and I loved every minute!

6. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

The Darkest Minds is another Dystopian Sci-Fi book. This one follows Ruby and when she is day years old she wakes up one morning and something has changed about her parents. They lock her in the garage and call the police where she is then taken to Thurmond a government rehabilitation centre. She may have escaped the deadly disease that is killing children all over america but instead she ended up with deadly abilities that she can’t control. Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life and journeys off to find a apparent safe haven for children like her.
This world is amazing and so interesting as well as brutal and unique! I loved the characters, the friend group that’s developed is just amazing and I love them all so much. This one is also action packed and unpredictable and I just loved every second!
I have not yet read The Darkest Legacy which released well after the initial trilogy. I do want to but I’m also nervous reading books that release years later.

7. The Nyxia Triad by Scott Reingten

I’ve only read the first two books in the Nyxia Triad so far but I’m hoping to get to book 3 soon! In Nyxia we follow Emmett who decides to join a mission with Babel Corporation off earth because he is hoping he will return with enough money to take care of his family forever. After boarding he discovers that the 10 recruits then have to compete in order to be chosen to go down to the planet Eden and mine a substance called Nyxia. However, Babel might not be all they seem.
This one is action packed and completely unpredictable. I had no idea what was going to happen next and I was on the edge of my seat. I love the mystery in this one, trying to figure out what Babel is up to. The world is also very unique and I I was invested in Emmett and some of the other characters so much. Definitely worth picking up and the audiobook is also really good.

8. Armada by Ernest Cline

In Armada we follow Zack who is a gamer and book & movie lover. He is just living a normal life until he spots an alien ship that looks exactly the same as the ships in the game Armada. All of a sudden gamers across the world are recruited to save the world from these Alien Ships but the situation is starting to feel even more familiar to Zack.
Armada gives off strong Pixels (the movie with Adam Sandler in it) vibes. I loved that movie & I loved Armada. This one is fun, action packed and such an interesting concept. I loved the idea and even though I didn’t personally understand all the gaming references it was still super interesting! This would be an awesome one for gamers who are interested in getting into reading as well!
