As the 2020 Goodreads Choice Awards have been announced I thought it would be a good time to go back and look at the 2019 Goodreads Choice Awards & see how many I have read & what I would rank those books! The main focus will be the Young Adult Fantasy & Sci-Fi category but have also read 5 books in the Young Adult Fiction category too, so I’ll chat about those as well!
Young Adult Fantasy & Sci-Fi
So there is a few books that are sequels of books that I’m not interested in reading or I’m simply not up to that book yet. The sequels that I’m not interested in are: The Wicked King, Wayward Son, Queen of Air and Darkness, Finale, Defy Me, Bloodwitch, Rebel & The Secret of Commonwealth. The ones I’m just not up to are Supernova & The Toll. The only 2 books I didn’t read that I could have was We Hunt the Flame but I’m also not sure if I will read that one & Call Down the Hawk which I just haven’t gotten to yet.
My Ranking
First Place: Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
It was a tough decision between A Curse so Dark and Lonely, Sorcery of Thorns & Aurora Rising as they were both amazing. But Aurora Rising was just that little bit better I think.

Second Place: A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
A Curse so Dark and Lonely is a close second for me! A Hear so Fierce and Broken was also amazing! I can’t wait for book 3 in this series!

Third Place: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
This was such and unique and amazing story! It’s a shame it was a standalone but I’m also keen for whatever the author releases next.
Fourth Place: King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo
King of Scars was really good but I do prefer the Six of Crows duology and it just wasn’t quite as good as the first three I placed!
Fifth Place: Serpent & Dove by Shalby Mahurin
I did enjoy Serpent & Dove overall but there were a couple things that weren’t my favourite. So, it definitely didn’t make it to the top of the list.

Sixth Place: Wilder Girls by Rory Power
This is easily my lowest rated on this list. This one only got 3 stars as I didn’t love the writing. There were also a couple other things that I wasn’t a fan of.

DNFd: Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
I DNFd Four Dead Queens as I just couldn’t get into it. There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with it but it just wasn’t vibing with me.
DNFd: The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
The Gilded Wolves I just didn’t enjoy from the start either and ended up DNFing. I found myself confused and bored so I didn’t continue. If a book doesn’t grip me early then I usually don’t push myself to read more and that was what happened here.
Young Adult Fiction
Majority of the books in this list I am simply not interested in as I’m not a Contemporary reader & I also only really got into Thrillers this year. There is only really 2 in this list that I’m interested in that I haven’t already read and those are Internment & The Fountains of Silence.

First Place: The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
The Vanishing Stair is hands down my favourite in this list. The Truly Devious series is amazing & I can’t wait for the 4th book that is yet to release!

Second Place: The Princess and the Fangirl by Ashley Poston
Another series that I love! The Princess and the Fangirl is such a fun contemporary and I have enjoyed everything I’ve read by Ashley Poston!

On the Come Up was an awesome book but it didn’t compare with The Hate U Give by the same author!

Fourth Place: Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus
I love a good mystery and this one was amazing! However, it wasn’t quite on the level of the top 3 books!

Fifth Place: Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
Capturing the Devil is easily my least favourite in this list. I loved Stalking Jack the Ripper but it slowly went downhill from there for me. The plot was slowly taken over by the romance. I loved Stalking Jack the Ripper for the mystery & not the romance. So this got very annoying.
