I read 19 books! 📚October Wrap Up

So in October I participated in GraphicsAThon, so 11 of the 19 books I read where Graphic Novels, 7 were audiobooks & the other 3 where physical reads.
So, let’s jump in!

Graphic Novels

Firstly for graphic novels I read Fence Volume Two & Volume Three by C.S. Pacat, Johanna the Mad & Joana LaFuente. I rated both of these 4.5 stars as they are super fun & also engaging. This series is the lead up to a fencing competition, so you are rooting for certain characters to win & there is a lot of anticipation while reading!

Next I read Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly Matthews & Nichole Matthews. These one is about a family’s who responsibility is to look after Pandora’s Box. However, it gets opened and these 3 kids have to return everything that escaped to the box before anyone finds out! This is fun & full of adventure. I ended up rating it 4 stars!

Next I read Volume One, Volume Two & Volume Three of Goldie Vance by Hope Larson, Brittany Williams, Noah Hayes, Jackie Ball, Jim Campbell & Sarah Stern. Goldie Vance is a Mystery Graphic Novel and it very immersive & addicting. I would have read Volume 4 & Larceny in La La Land as well but it became unavailable on Scribd before I could get to it! So maybe this one. I rated all 3 volumes 4.5 stars!

Next I reread The Tea Dragon Society & The Tea Dragon Festival then continued onto The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Katie O’Neill which I had an eARC of! These are just such a cute wholesome series & I’m really sad that it is over. I would easily read another 10 books set in this world or following these characters as it’s just all amazing. I rated all three 5 stars!

The Avant-Guards: Volume One by Carly Usdin & Noah Hayes is another sports based Graphic Novel. This one we have a girl that moves to a new school and has a group trying to recruit her for a basketball team they are trying to form. This one is very fun and I love this random group of characters! This is another one I would have continued but Scribd made them unavailable. I’m keen to get to the rest of this series! I rated this one 4 stars!

Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection by Junji Ito is a Horror Manga collection. This one I ended up rating 4 stars. This one features:
Frankenstein: 4.5 Stars
Neck Specter, Bog of Living Spirits, Pen Pal, Intruder, The Strange Tale of Oshikiri & The Strange Tale of Oshikiri: The Walls: 4 Stars
The Hell of the Doll Funeral: 3.5 Stars
Face Firmly in Place: 3 Stars
Boss Non-Non & Hide-and-seek with Boss Non-non: 3.5 Stars
So, overall I gave this one a rating of 4 stars. I’m keen to try more stories by Junji Ito!

Audiobook

The Silence of Bones by June Hur is a Mystery book set in 1800 Korea. I loved learning about the culture at that time and I love a good mystery. This one was interesting and keen to read more by the author. I rated it 4.5 stars.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is another YA mystery and I loved this one! I have a full spoiler free review up for this one and you can find that HERE! I’m so keen to read book 2 when it comes out because I feel like there is more to learn about this mystery!

This was my least favourite read of the month. Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia was slow & also the twist was very confusing. It didn’t make a lot of sense and I felt like it was a little ridiculous really. There were so many better ways this book could have gone. I ended up rating this one 3 stars but I have debated downgrading that to 2.5 stars. I’m not sure.

Physical/eBook

I reread Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys in October and loved it even more this time! This is a hard hitting WWII story that is very emotional and beautifully written. You can find my spoiler free review HERE!

FINALLY!!! They finally released Memento by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff in eBook & Audiobook form so I had to read it straight away! This one follows AIDAN in the events leading up to Illuminae. This was awesome & I rated it 5 stars!

Lastly I read Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare which is a Slasher thriller and it was a tonne of fun. The only downfall with this one was the reveal at the end.. It just didn’t really make sense and the motive was a push. I rated this one 4 stars.

Let’s Chat!

What was your favourite read from October?!
Mine would be The Inheritance Games for audiobook & The Tea Dragon Tapestry for Graphic Novel. Of course Salt to the Sea is a favourite but as it’s a reread I thought I’d let the new books have a chance.
