Magical ReadAThon FAQ

My Career Goals!

So I have chosen to strive to be a Magizoologist for this years Magical ReadAThon.

Magizoologist Fact Sheet – Created by Book Roast on YouTube

So as you can see the OWLs that are required for Magizoologist are: Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Herbology & Potions.

My TBR!

So I will be concentrating on the 4 subjects required for Magizoologist but I have chosen a book for each of the 12 subjects. If I have time I will pick up as many as I can but my priority will definitely be the 4 subjects for Magizoologist!

Care of Magical Creatures – Land animal on the cover

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin (aerial view of a someone riding a motorbike with a wolf shadow coming from the bike)

This one is fairly self explanatory. There is a wolf on the cover, which is a land animal.

Charms – Age Line: Read an adult work

The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley

This is an Adult Historical Fiction. I absolutely love this cover and I picked it up on a whim when I was out shopping with a mate. I haven’t read what it’s about but I hope I love it!

Herbology – Plant on the cover

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon (Orange Flower in top middle of book)

I have been meaning to read this for AGES! I read The Bone Season & The Mime Order maybe 2 years ago, maybe longer and I picked a copy of this one up straight away but never actually read it. I think i will definitely need to read an overview of Book 1 & 2 before starting this one.

Potions – Next Ingredient: Sequel

This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada

This is book 2 to This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada. I absolutely loved This Mortal Coil so I can’t wait to read this book!

Ancient Runes – Retelling

This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee

This is a Frankenstein retelling. So fits the challenge perfectly. I have been wanting to read another book by Mackenzi Lee as I absolutely love the Montague Siblings series.

Arithmancy – Work written by more than one author

The Wicked + The Divine: Vol 7: Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson & Clayton Cowles

This has 4 contributors so it’s perfect for this challenge. I have been making my way through this series and I am really enjoying it. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous!

Astronomy – “Star” in the title

Ruin of Stars by Linsey Miller

This is pretty self explanatory. Ruin of STARs is the second book to Mask of Shadows which I read and enjoyed last year.

Defence of Magical Creatures – Land animal on the cover

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

I’m cheating slightly as the first letter is A, but I don’t have anything else that fits. So I’m using it!

Divination – Set in the future

Dry by Neal Shusterman & Jarrod Shusterman

This was recommended to me when I asked in a Facebook Group for books set in the future. I can’t find anywhere in the description if this is set in the future so I hope that is correct.

History of Magic – Published at least 10 years ago

Murder in the Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie

This was published in 1936, so definitely more than 10 years old! I have been making my way through the Hercule Poirot series and this is the next book I’m up to.

Muggle Studies – Contemporary

Dear Martin by Nic Stone

This has been on my TBR for ages, so I’m glad to be finally getting to it hopefully.

Transfiguration – Sprayed Edges OR red cover

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa (Black Background, Silver Fox like mask with a red swirl and red silhouette of asian landscape behind mask)

Another self explanatory one, the cover has red on it. I’ve been meaning to read more by this author as I read The Iron King a while ago and really enjoyed it.

  1. Ooh have fun! I’m also participating! My goal is becoming an alchemist, but for that one you need to read all subjects, so if I won’t manage that I will also try for magizoologist! πŸ™‚

  2. This will be my first year participating in this readathon, and I also chose Magizoologist. Not only because it fits in with my love for animals, but I figured it’s also the more … manageable one, haha. I don’t want to stress myself out and be the usual overachiever that I am with these things lol.

    1. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I chose it because of my love for animals too. I didn’t even look at the required subjects or any of the other careers really πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
      Good luck!!

  3. I’m also going for Magizoologist because I love animals a lot! I picked 12 books as well and I’m hoping to read them all but we shall have to wait and see. I hope you have fun during the readathon. Good luck!!! πŸ™‚
