ReadAThon Guide – August 2018

Header Image (13)

Okay, so this is a bit later than usual but it is here! Here are all the ReadAThons I could fine for August. For August I couldn’t find any ReadAThons shorter than a week or any that were in the 2-4 weeks category. I think with the crap tonne of ReadAThons that happened in July, August is a little more chill.

The TBR BustAThon

TBR BustAThon is dedicated to reading the books on your TBR! So rereading does not count. There are 7 challenges for this. But if you don’t have a book to fit a challenge then simply skip it as the idea is not to be adding more books to your TBR by buying new books. If you wish you can use 1 book for 2 challenges but no more than 2. There will also be sprints held on Twitter.

The ReadAThon goes from midnight on the 6th till 11:59 pm on the 12th of August.

Reading Challenges:

1. Read a book with less than 300 pages
2. Read a book with a mythological creature on the cover
3. Read a book whose title begins with the first letter of your name
4. Read a 2018 release
5. Read a book with some kind of school supply on the cover
6. Read four books
7. Read a book from your childhood/a children’s book

Magical ReadAThon – NEWTs Edition

So a couple months ago there was a OWLs Edition of Magical ReadAThon. You won’t really be able to do the NEWTs if you didn’t do the OWLs. For this ReadAThon each subject has 3 challenges. However, you can only do the challenges for a subject that you completed in the OWLs edition. Same as at Hogwarts, if you fail a subject in your OWLs you won’t be allowed to continue with that subject. Now, each subject as I said has 3 challenges, one for each of the pass grades you can receive during exams (Acceptable, Exceeds Expectations & Outstand). You have to complete these in order. So you start with the Acceptable challenge and then move up to Exceeds Expectations and then finally onto Outstanding. Hopefully that all makes sense, it is really hard to explain but I will leave links below to the creator’s announcement post.

The ReadAThon will go for the entire month of August.

Challenges:

Ancient Runes

Acceptable: Book set in the past
Exceeds Expectations: One of the most ancient books on your shelves that you haven’t read yet
Outstanding: Book translated from another language

Acceptable: Book of at least 300 pages
Exceeds Expectations: Book that ends on an even-numbered page
Outstanding: A book that’s not a first in a series

Outstanding: Story that’s set on a different planet/world

Care of Magical Creatures

  1. Thank you for putting together this list, I always love your Readathon Guides!! It’s sad that there are not more Readathons taking place in August, but I will likely be joining in last minute with the NEWT Readathon 🙂

  2. This list is awesome! Thank you for always posting these. I’ve been getting into readathons more lately and they’re so helpful. Sadly I won’t be participating in most of these because I’m doing #ARCAugust so I can’t do some of the challenges for most of them, but I think I could do TBR Bustathon so I might do that one!

    1. Yeah with the NEWTs I’m kinda limited with what I can do as the books for NEWTs have to be read in a certain order and I have series that obviously need to be read in order. So I’ve already had to make a strict reading order for myself. So any other ReadAThon with challenges would just be impossible. And series crackdown is the only one that doesn’t have specific challenges but I don’t have any full series on my TBR and then again there is the problem of when I have to read things.
So I think I’m out for this month except NEWTs

      1. The OWLs was definitely easier as there was only 1 challenge per subject & no order. But this one is definitely more challenging. Which I don’t mind at all haha. But I totally get that it would be a little intense for some people.

      2. Haha right!! I’m just so bad at sticking to readathons sadly. Hopefully next year, since I’ve been getting into them more lately. The 7in7 readathon last week was my first ever 100% successful readathon.
