I have been debating over the last few weeks whether or not I will participate in the Popsugar Reading Challenge and I have finally decided that I will. However, it’s not going to take over my reading by any means and I won’t stress if I don’t get it completed.
So I just wanted to share a list of the books I may possibly read for each of the challenges.
I tried as hard as possible to choose books I already own, have already pre-ordered or books I will definitely be picking up soon but it wasn’t always possible.
HERE is the link to the PopSugar post!

A book made into a movie you’ve already seen
I’ve watched these movies so many times and I have tried to read the whole Chronicles of Narnia but I was not enjoying the first book ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ in the slightest! So I stopped reading. So I’m completely skipping that and just starting with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I also already have an eBook of the whole Chronicles of Narnia books
True Crime
I haven’t decided on this one yet
The next book in a series you started
I may have already read this one!
A book involving a heist
Nordic Noir
A novel based on a real person
I’ve already read this book, twice actually. I finished by reread via audiobook last night of Stalking Jack the Ripper!
A book set in a country that fascinates you
Anything set in Germany fascinates me and I have been meaning to read this for ages! I also have it on audiobook already.
A book with a time of day in the title
Night counts right?! Already own!!
A book about a villain or antihero
Already own this too! I’m doing good so far haha!
A book about death or grief
Pretty sure this one will cover that and I already have it on audiobook!
A book with a female author that uses a male pseudonym
AKA J.K. Rowling of course!
A book with a LGBTQ+ protagonist
This one has a Trans character who is a lesbian after changing gender. So it definitely counts! And I have this as an eBook through Scribd
A book that is also a stage play or musical
I’ve wanted to read some more Roald Dahl so this helps!!
A book by an author of a different ethnicity to you
I have already read this one! I finished it today actually.
A book about feminism
I have been hearing tonnes about this so I’m keen!
A book about mental health
I am using this book for the same challenge for the Winter Biannual Bibliothon which is next week!
A book you borrowed or was given to you as a gift
I received this one for Christmas from my father and I have already read it!
A book by 2 authors
I already have this one pre-ordered and I can’t wait!!
A book about or involving a sport
A book by a local author
So, I live in the middle of nowhere! So I don’t know any local authors, so I just chose an Aussie author!!
A book with your favourite colour in the title
I received this book in The YA Chronicles AGES ago! I really need to get to it but I have heard mixed things about it, so I have been hesitant.
A book with alliteration in the title
I have wanted to read more Agatha Christie books, both Hercule Poirot & Miss Arple stories! So I added a couple to this TBR.
A book about time travel
This has been on so many TBRs! But it’s so big, so I keep skipping it!
A book with a weather element in the title
close enough! And I already own this book.
A book set at sea
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats & Piracy
This doesn’t have a cover yet, but it releases later in the year and I am so keen on it! I’m also guessing that it will take place at sea due to the Piracy part of the title.
A book with an animal in the title
This one has two! So, bonus!
A book set on a different planet
I’ve already started the audiobook for this. I really enjoyed the audiobook of book 1, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.
A book with song lyrics in the title
I haven’t been able to find a book that interests me that fits this challenge! So if you know any YA books that fit this that aren’t romances then please let me know!
A book about or set on Halloween
This is a Frankenstein retelling, so close enough. I really don’t give a damn about Halloween as we don’t celebrate it. So I just chose this instead
A book with characters who are twins
Another Agatha Christie!
A book mentioned in another book
I feel like the Winter Biannual Bibliothon got some inspiration from this list for their challenges as this is the second challenge that is the same as WBB!
A book from a celebrity book club
I found an extensive list HERE for a book group called Vaginal Fantasy by Felicia Day.
A childhood classic you’ve never read
I used to watch the Tv show for this as my Mum loved it, but I have never read the book.
A book that’s published in 2018
I have already pre-ordered this and I can’t wait!!
A past Goodreads Choice Award winner
I already have a copy of this book and I have been meaning to get to it.
A book set in the decade you were born
I want to reread Harry Potter this year, but the physical books. I have been rereading via audiobook a fair few times now and I have reread the first couple books using the illustrated editions but I’m yet to reread the physical books again in full. So this is a start.
A book you meant to read in 2017 but didn’t get to
I have owned this for a fair while now and it has been on a couple TBRs in the past, but I still haven’t picked it up! But it needs to happen, especially with the upcoming release of the prequel book, which I plan to purchase and read before picking up Truthwitch.
A book with an ugly cover
This is one of the eARCs I have from NetGalley however it is not a recent release, it has just been left on NetGalley, it actually released in 2011 I think.
A book that involves a bookstore or library
A favourite prompt from 2015, 2016 or 2017 Popsugar Reading Challenges
For this, I chose the challenge ‘An audiobook’ as I love audiobooks and I have also already started listening to the audiobook of this one!
Advanced Challenges:
I won’t be doing all of these but I will try for a couple. I will still list all below though.
A bestseller from the year you graduated high school
A cyberpunk book
A book that was being read by a stranger in public
As I barely see anyone reading in public that I don’t know. I just don’t have one for this. I live in small town, so we are lacking on people that are strangers to me, places I go that people would sit and read and also just readers in general. If I twisted the challenge slightly I could choose The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor as I have seen one of the girls I used to work with reading that while waiting for her children at the pool while I was working. But not a stranger.
A book tied to your ancestry
I really don’t understand this prompt! My only guess is to read a book that was set in a place where my family was originally from. In which case I would have to read something set in Scotland, Prussia or Germany. But I haven’t chosen anything yet.
A book with a fruit or vegetable in the title
An Allegory
I still don’t understand what an allegory is really but I just looked at a list on Goodreads and this showed up and as I am already reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe I decided to choose it.
A book with the same first or last name as you
A Microhistory
Another one I don’t really know the meaning of. What’s the difference between a Microhistory and normal history?! This book is known as both Deep Down Dark & The 33 as they changed the name to The 33 after the movie version.
A book about a problem facing society today
Police brutality may not be as extreme here in Aus as it is overseas, but it is still definitely a problem!
A book recommended by someone else taking the Popsugar Reading Challenge
Are you participating? Then comment a recommendation. Please, not romance heavy!!
Lol, I struggled at choosing a book by a local author too. 🙂 🙂 I ended up choosing an anthology of horror stories by various filipino artists. 🙂 Goodluck with this.. I’m participating too. 🙂

It’s a bit of an odd challenge. Like how do you define local. Normally I would consider that just my town. Which is like max 2.5k people… Not exactly likely to have a local author for me!
And yay! Good luck!

🙂 🙂 Maybe you can just go for a writer in your country 🙂 Anyway, goodluck… Looking forward to your updates of this challenge. Ive been trying to do this in the past couple of years, hope I can do it this year successfully. 🙂

I’m reading HP for the first time and that’s worked for a lot of challenges! I’ve also been reading some graphic novels to try to get a headstart.
If I had to recommend a book, I’m going with Kim Reaper. It’s about a girl who is a grim reaper and a somewhat light-hearted death for the death/grief prompt. 🙂 It’s a comic series that’s getting its own volume soon so I counted it as one!
