This week’s prompt is: Books That Aren’t Set In/Inspired By The Western World
–I know this is a long title, but I couldn’t figure out how else to word it and still get the point across. Talk about books that are set outside of the Western World (so outside of North America and Western Europe) or if they are SFF, books that aren’t inspired by those places (so no medieval setting fantasy!)
This will be books I have & haven’t read
1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer (Have Read)
This is set in a Fantasy Beijing (New Beijing)
2. Soundless by Richelle Mead (Have Read)
This is set in a fantasy Asia
3. Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman (TBR)
Based on East Asian astrology
4. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
This is set in a fantasy Middle East
5. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
This is set in a Historical Fantasy Russian
OMG how did I forget to include Cinder on my list? 😣 Great picks, I’ve been planning to read some of these books for quite a while.

I have read Cinder, The Wrath & the Dawn, and The Crowns Game and they were all great. I have to read the second book in The Crowns Game duology and I have only read to Cress in the the Lunar Chronicles but planning me continuing soon.

Nice! I have only read Cinder so when I get my hands on the next books I will definitely continue.
I’m not 100% sure if I will read The Wrath and the Dawn, I read Flame in the Mist and disliked it, so I don’t know yet. & I still need to get to The Crowns Game!

It really highlights the poetic writing, and you know how to pronounce the names correctly.

Yes names are a big thing! I have listened to a preview of an audiobook just hoping that a specific name was mentioned so I would know how to pronounce it while reading! 😂😂

Most of them were easy to pronounce anyway, I think it was only one I I was getting wrong, and that was Khalid.
