Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy’s kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor’s body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked – but his piercing stare draws her ever closer. As Feyre’s feeling for Tamlin begin to burn through every warning she’s been told about his kind, an ancient, wicked shadow grows.

Feyre must find a way to break a spell, or lose her heart forever.

Yes, I have finally read this book! I don’t own the second book, so I won’t be continuing the serious straight away as I have put myself on a book buying ban still!! So I will have to wait.

This review will have more rambling than normal! Just Saying!

Cover Art:

So the picture above doesn’t 100% show what the book cover looks like. The cover of the book has two different textures to it. It is matte but there is shiny vines with thorns on it, same vines as the silver ones, but they are just clear shiny stuff over the matte red. So you can only see it when the light hits it. Anyway, I love this book cover, but I do not like the matte textured part of the book as even lightly touching it leaves fingerprints and marks all over it that don’t rub away. If you know how to get rid of this, then please tell me..

Writing:

So this is the first book by Sarah J. Maas that I have read and I’m in love with her writing. It’s so beautiful and detailed and just sucks you in! I always say this to books that it applies to, but I LOVE maps! This book has 2 at the start! The left side is a map of Prythian including Hybern and the right is I do not know.. It looks like it’s just more of the map on the left, but I don’t remember anyone mentioning what was to the East of Prythian, Feyre always mentions the possibility of fleeing to the south, but don’t know what that part of the map is. At first I thought it might be a zoomed in of a part of the other map, but the coast line isn’t the same as the other map, so I have no idea! If someone can explain this to me, then please let me know in the comments!

Plot:

I really enjoyed the plot of this book. When starting this book I had absolutely NO knowledge of anything about this book, literally nothing! I feel like because it’s so well known that when people talk about it in BookTube videos and on blogs they never explain anything, which was great because I like going into book knowing as little as possible. So going into this book I knew nothing and at the start I was a little confused as to where this was going, but then pretty quickly it jumped straight into the story and I no longer had to wait, which I loved! I do like it sometimes that authors take a second to get the world going, but sometimes I like it when it jumps straight in! It just depends how I’m feeling at the time. But with this book it works jumping straight into it as we find out what Feyre knows early but then learn the rest as she does. Am I rambling? Yes, Yes I am. Moving on.

Characters:

The bit below in purple is kinda spoilery, so avoid if you want absolutely no spoilers!

So because this book is soo hyped, I may not have known anything about the plot but it is hard not to know about this Feyre & Rysand thing… So when reading this I was so confused and it kinda made it weird to read this book because in this book Feyre falls for Tamlin, so when Rhysand turned up I was waiting and waiting for something to happen between Tamlin and Feyre that makes her ditch him or that Rhysand will do something amazing to make her chnage her mind. So this was kinda annoying. I’m assuming the Feyre & Rhysand bit comes into play in the next book, but it kinda messed with me all through this book.. That was the only thing that I hated, but that’s not the books fault that is the hypes fault.

Anyway, I did enjoy Feyre a lot, sometimes she annoyed me a little, but that’s just because she was so paranoid sometimes and I was just like ‘woman, chill’. But that is just me haha. I really like Tamlin, at the end you find out something that made me kinda question his actions at the start but it didn’t bother me too much, if you’ve read this then you will know what I’m talking about. I really like Lucien, at first I was a bit iffy about him, but in the end I liked him. Rhysand was another one that I didn’t like at the start but grew to enjoy. Then there is Amarantha, bitch, moving on. There is also a couple other characters that I enjoyed that weren’t major characters but still worth mentioning. These three were also characters that were kinda eh in the start and then towards the end turned out to be awesome! Alis was just kinda there until at the end when she helps Feyre, Elain further in was just so happy when things were shitty and I liked that and then Nesta I kinda wanted to push in a creek at the start and then towards the end shows this strong interesting side. I hope we see more of Elain & Nesta in the next book!

Overall:

I really enjoyed this book! I have been having so many awesome reads lately! Which makes me soo happy! I loved this world, the plot and most of the characters and I’m keen to get to the next book hopefully soon!

I’m glad I’ve finally read this as it’s just so hyped and I’ve felt left out for ages! There is still heaps of series that I feel like everyone else has read, and I hope to get to them soon! I honestly have no idea what I am going to pick up next. And holy shit I actually read all the books that were on my Aprils TBR and it’s only the 10th! So that is exciting as hell!

  1. I ordered this book the other day myself. Can’t wait to get started on it. Everyone seems to adore Maas’ writing style. I admit, the hype is what kept me away from it at first but couldn’t resist. Glad you loved it!

    1. That’s awesome! I don’t know why it took me so long, I think it was just because other things caught my eye before I picked this one up. But I’ve finally done it! Hope you enjoy it just as much!
