Goodreads Synopsis:

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was the surprise best seller of 2011—an unprecedented mix of YA fantasy and vintage photography that enthralled readers and critics alike. Publishers Weekly called it “an enjoyable, eccentric read, distinguished by well-developed characters, a believable Welsh setting, and some very creepy monsters.”

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerizing) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.

I am absolutely loving this series, I was in a kind of mini reading slump throughout October, so it took me awhile to read it, but that wasn’t because I didn’t like it!

If you have read my Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Review, you will notice that some of this review will be very similar as my opinion has not changed when it comes to certain aspects of the books.

Writing:

I loved the writing style. I love books that when reading you can easily visualise the place they are talking about and that was the case for this book. I also loved the addition of the pictures. It added to the effect of the book and I thought it made it a little creepier, which I loved. This isn’t a scary book, just putting that out there, at first, I thought that’s what it was meant to be. However, it’s no scarier than any other fantasy novel I have read. The quality of writing was consistent between Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City, which is good as there is nothing worse than when the first book is written amazingly and the second seems like a half ass job!

Plot:

Now, as this is spoiler free I will not be talking about details of the plot as that would ruin this book and give away details of the first book. However, I loved the plot! It had so many twists and turns and it wasn’t a book where you are like ‘I bet this is what happens in the end’ because no matter what you guessed, you would have been wrong! It was so well done and there was tonnes of suspense which just heightened the plot.

Characters:

If you want my initial opinion on Jakob, Jakobs Grandfather Abraham, Jakob’s Father Franklin, Emma, and Millard than check out my review for the first book here!

I’m not going to go into details about each character, but I loved that we actually learnt about each of the characters and found out what their personality is like!  There was also the addition of a few new characters that join them and some they had to leave behind! LITTLE BIT OF A SPOILER: A loved that Peculiar Animals were added! I found that so fascinating and I just loved it! TINY SPOILER PART OVER (not even sure that’s considered a spoiler, but to me you should go into this story with an open mind and knowing nothing like I did and this book will just blow your mind!

Overall:

I loved it! I can’t express it any other way! This book was equal to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and I will be picking up Library or Souls by the end of the day!

Highly RECOMMEND!
