October Haul

The Book Depository links are the paperback editions..

Physical Copies:

I’m kind annoyed as I already have the first book and it is the regular sized book and these were the smaller books and they aren’t as good a quality! They feel like the cheap mass produced copies..

I have bought the Supernatural books just to give them ago! I have no idea what to expect with them as I have mostly seen meh reviews for them! So let me know if you have read any of them and what you thought?! I have watched season 1 to 9 of the Supernatural seasons in order, so I’m hoping these are good as I loved the TV show!

Well these are books that I received in Subscription boxes this month (I received both September YA Chronicles, October YA Chronicles and the Gemina in the mail this month)

How?!?!? I forgot!! Addition to November Monthly Releases!

screen-shot-2016-10-28-at-10-18-30-pm

Okay, so I did my November Monthly Releases yesterday and I completely forgot to put Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them on there!

So here is an addition to yesterday’s post!

0portland_lbbg_revision2_fotor

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Original Screenplay) by J.K. Rowling

Even though I strongly disliked Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which was partly because of the format, I am still going to read this book!
I dislike that it is another Screenplay, but at least this time I will be about to see the media that goes along with it. That is what disappointed me most about Cursed Child, I live in Australia and can barely make enough money to live.. I can’t afford to go and see the play! The least they could have done was recorded one of the live shows so that the rest of the world could actually see it! Whereas Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them I can at least see the movie that goes along with it and I’m so excited!

Release Date: 18th November

When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt’s fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone…

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, author of the beloved and internationally bestselling Harry Potter books. Featuring a cast of remarkable characters, this is epic, adventure-packed storytelling at its very best.

Whether an existing fan or new to the wizarding world, this is a perfect addition to any reader’s bookshelf.

The Snowfang Bride (Snowfang #1) by Merry Ravenell

Genre: Paranormal, Fantasy

Goodreads Synopsis

Centuries of political games killed most of the female werewolves. Now only a few survive, and the Elders work to change the old ways of thinking.

Winter, the only daughter of the SilverPaw Alpha, finally meets the soul Gaia has chosen for her: Sterling, the cold, demanding, and entirely-too-human Alpha of the tiny SnowFang pack.

Thrust into a world of human wealth for which she was never prepared, Winter must become Sterling’s flawless wife and Luna from the moment she arrives. The city is full of threats, both werewolf and human, and Sterling’s past is full of secrets best left undisturbed.

When they are betrayed by those closest to them, Winter and Sterling embark on a dangerous game of brinkmanship that will change their lives, and the future of the werewolves, forever.

Sky Road Walker by S.M. Carrière

Genre: Unknown (It doesn’t say on goodreads and I have looked other places but can’t find anything.. The Synopsis also doesn’t tell me much.)

Goodreads Synopsis

The Seeker’s Son has taken one,
The Seeker’s Son takes two.
The Seeker’s Son takes another one,
The Seeker’s Son seeks you.

Chased by wraiths of dark smoke, without knowledge of the land in which I found myself or memory of my life and purpose, I became embroiled in a perilous quest to restore the throne of a fading Empire. Little did I know how dangerous a task that would prove to be.
This is my story; the tale of the Sky Road Walker.

Sky Road Walker is the first of the democratically created Your Very Own Adventure books by author S.M. Carrière.

Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to The Ottawa Caring and Sharing Exchange, a charity which provides relief and dignity during difficult times of the year.

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

Genre: Science Fiction, YA

Goodreads Synopsis

A Diabolic is ruthless. A Diabolic is powerful. A Diabolic has a single task: Kill in order to protect the person you’ve been created for.

Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator’s daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side, but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe.

When the power-mad Emperor learns Sidonia’s father is participating in a rebellion, he summons Sidonia to the Galactic court. She is to serve as a hostage. Now, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia. She must become her. Nemesis travels to the court disguised as Sidonia—a killing machine masquerading in a world of corrupt politicians and two-faced senators’ children. It’s a nest of vipers with threats on every side, but Nemesis must keep her true abilities a secret or risk everything.

As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns there is something more to her than just deadly force. She finds a humanity truer than what she encounters from most humans. Amidst all the danger, action, and intrigue, her humanity just might be the thing that saves her life—and the empire.

The Amateurs (The Amateurs #1) by Sara Shepard

Genre: Mystery, YA

Goodreads Synopsis

As soon as Seneca Frazier sees the post on the Case Not Closed website about Helena Kelly, she’s hooked. Helena’s high-profile disappearance five years earlier is the one that originally got Seneca addicted to true crime. It’s the reason she’s a member of the site in the first place.

So when Maddy Wright, her best friend from the CNC site, invites Seneca to spend spring break in Connecticut looking into the cold case, she immediately packs her bag. But the moment she steps off the train in trendy, glamorous Dexby, things begin to go wrong. Maddy is nothing like she expected, and Helena’s sister, Aerin Kelly, seems completely hostile and totally uninterested in helping with their murder investigation.

But when Brett, another super user from the site, joins Seneca and Maddy in Dexby, Aerin starts to come around. The police must have missed something, and someone in Dexby definitely has information they’ve been keeping quiet.

As Seneca, Brett, Maddy, and Aerin begin to unravel dark secrets and shocking betrayals about the people closest to them, they seem to be on the murderer’s trail at last. But somewhere nearby the killer is watching . . . ready to do whatever it takes to make sure the truth stays buried.

October 2016 The YA Chronicles Subscription Box Unboxing

screen-shot-2016-10-28-at-10-57-18-am

So, today I received my October YA Chronicles and my October Geek Gear boxes, so the unboxings for both of those will be going up today! Along with my Friday Finds post which I do ever Friday.. So sorry for spamming the feed today! But I want to get them up now as I hate Scheduling posts and I will be busy Saturday and Sunday I want to start my Hauls, Wrap Ups and TBRs for the end of the month.. So my bad, but it’s going to happen haha.

What You Need To Know About the Subscription Box

The YA Chronicles is based in Australia so for me this is great, being Australian the shipping is pretty cheap and the box gets to me quickly!

Here is the link to their website!

It says on the website that there is international shipping, so I’m assuming they ship everywhere, so I’m sorry if they don’t ship to your country!

I will only be posting costing in AUD, so if you want to know what it would cost in your country then you can go here to convert it, or comment your currency and I will tell you.

Cost of the Box: $29.99 AUD
Shipping to Aus and NZ: $9.99 AUD (this includes tracking)
Shipping internationally: $24.99 AUD (this includes tracking)

Also, this subscription box is not automatically recurring, so you do have to purchase it every month, which is good because it means you can easily pick and choose the themes that you want to purchase

In this box every month, you receive a new release paperback YA book, a TYAC bookmark with that month’s theme on the back and 2-5 other bookish items. Each month is themed and the theme is announced as soon as the subscription box goes on sale!

What I received this month!

Volume Fourteen: Against All Odds

I will write under each photo what is written on the description card that you get in the box.

Manon Lip Balm

img_5692

We absolutely love BehindThePages’ products and so we definitely had to include a Manon Lip Balm from her new range of Book Girlfriend Scents. Made from all natural products, it smells of dragons blood, rain, fire, amber moss and teak. The colour of the wingleader’s iron teeth, the balm glides on smooth to nourish your lips.

Behind The Pages Etsy shop

Also,  I’m assuming the Manon is from Throne of Glass.. I haven’t read the books, I just googled it.

Honestly, I won’t be using this.. The actual product is great a sparkly and that colour comes off on your lips and makes them look bruised and also in my opinion it stinks.. I do like BehindThePages other products!

Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven

img_5696

Jennifer Niven has done it again with another heart-wrenching story. Holding Up The Universe is our book of the month and it is a beautifully poignant novel. Everyone thinks they know Libby and Jack. She was dubbed America’s fattest teen and he is the most popular guy in school. But don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Thanks to a cruel joke, they are brought together find some thing they never thought they would find in each other.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed “America’s Fattest Teen.” But no one’s taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her mom’s death, she’s been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now, Libby’s ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for every possibility life has to offer. In that moment, I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything.

Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, he’s got swagger, but he’s also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he can’t recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. He’s the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything, but he can’t understand what’s going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Don’t get too close to anyone.

Until he meets Libby. When the two get tangled up in a cruel high school game—which lands them in group counseling and community service—Libby and Jack are both pissed, and then surprised. Because the more time they spend together, the less alone they feel. Because sometimes when you meet someone, it changes the world, theirs and yours.

screen-shot-2016-10-27-at-7-59-39-pm

Book Travelling Thursday is a weekly meme created by Danielle and Cátia. All you have to do is a pick a book that is related to the theme, the themes are announced on the Goodreads page. Once you have chosen a book you need to find the original cover, the covers from your country, your favourite cover and your least favourite cover.

This week’s prompt is: Halloween is here! Choose a spooky read that you have either read or want to read.

I chose A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and this is a book that is on my TBR.

Original Cover:

6a00d8345295c269e2016760da20b1970b-600wi

Cover from my Country:

Again, no Australian book cover

Favourite Covers:

Left: Candlewick Press 2013 Release
Middle: Candlewick Press Movie-Tie in 2016 Release
Right: Original Candlewick Press edition.

I love the one on the right as it looks creepy and sounds like it would match the story.

Least Favourite:

Left: Walker Books Un-illustrated edition 2015 Release
Right: Spanish Nube De Tinta 2014 Release

These covers are just kinda boring to me.

Well, that’s it for today! Let me know which cover you like best and send me a link to your BTT!

Now, Denna must learn the ways of her new home while trying to hide her growing magic. To make matters worse, she must learn to ride Mynaria’s formidable warhorses before her coronation—and her teacher is the person who intimidates her most, the prickly and unconventional Princess Amaranthine (called Mare), sister of her betrothed.

When a shocking assassination leaves the kingdom reeling, Mare and Denna reluctantly join forces to search for the culprit. As the two work together, each discovers there’s more to the other than she thought. Mare is surprised by Denna’s intelligence and bravery, while Denna is drawn to Mare’s independent streak. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

Top Ten Tuesday – Scary Books on my TBR

screen-shot-2016-10-25-at-9-34-28-pm

Top Ten Tuesday is a monthly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and you can find all the info and upcoming prompts Here.

This week’s prompts is: Halloween related freebie: ten scary books, favorite horror novels, non-scary books to get you in the Halloween/fall mood, bookish Halloween costumes, scariest covers), scary books on my TBR, etc.

As I live in Australia, Halloween isn’t as big here as it is in other countries, so I don’t read ‘scary’ books around this time of year for that reason and I also don’t read books to ‘get me in the mood for Halloween’ as I couldn’t really care less about Halloween haha. Anyway, this month I will be doing scary books on my TBR.

Obviously, I haven’t actually read any of these books, so I’m not 100% sure that they are scary, but they are on Goodreads ‘Scary’ lists haha.

1. World War Z by Max Brooks

World_War_Z_book_cover

Goodreads Synopsis

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. “World War Z” is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.

Ranging from the now infamous village of New Dachang in the United Federation of China, where the epidemiological trail began with the twelve-year-old Patient Zero, to the unnamed northern forests where untold numbers sought a terrible and temporary refuge in the cold, to the United States of Southern Africa, where the Redeker Plan provided hope for humanity at an unspeakable price, to the west-of-the-Rockies redoubt where the North American tide finally started to turn, this invaluable chronicle reflects the full scope and duration of the Zombie War.

Most of all, the book captures with haunting immediacy the human dimension of this epochal event. Facing the often raw and vivid nature of these personal accounts requires a degree of courage on the part of the reader, but the effort is invaluable because, as Mr. Brooks says in his introduction, “By excluding the human factor, aren’t we risking the kind of personal detachment from history that may, heaven forbid, lead us one day to repeat it? And in the end, isn’t the human factor the only true difference between us and the enemy we now refer to as ‘the living dead’?”

2. The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty’s thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. When world-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a mysterious symbol—seared into the chest of a murdered physicist—he discovers evidence of the unimaginable: the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati … the most powerful underground organization ever to walk the earth. The Illuminati has now surfaced to carry out the final phase of its legendary vendetta against its most hated enemy—the Catholic Church.

Langdon’s worst fears are confirmed on the eve of the holy conclave, when a messenger of the Illuminati announces they have hidden an unstoppable time bomb at the very heart of Vatican City. With the countdown under way, Langdon jets to Rome to join forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and mysterious Italian scientist, to assist the Vatican in a desperate bid for survival.

Embarking on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that snakes across Rome toward the long-forgotten Illuminati lair … a clandestine location that contains the only hope for Vatican salvation.

And when a strange boy bearing stranger tattoos moves into the neighborhood so, she discovers, does something else. Questions from Kayla

1.If your region is currently in spring, what are you doing this summer? Or if not, what did you do this past summer?
This summer I have no idea what I am doing! All I know is that I will be going to my Uncles and Cousins for the first time in probably 8 years for Christmas,  don’t know exactly how that is going to go as there is a lot of family drama there. But hopefully it will be good!

2. How many physical books do you own?
Gimmie a second!
I’m back
94

3. Under what circumstances would you DNF a book?
If it was way to confusing and I had no idea what was actually happening.. Or if it’s just really boring and I’m not enjoying myself. I have only not finished 1 book and that was Game of Thrones, I was confused and it was hard to understand and I just felt straight up bored reading it and also a little disgusted with it..

4. What was the last movie you saw in theatres? Did you enjoy it?
I have not been to a cinema in so long! But I think the last movie I saw was Find Dory and yes I enjoyed it.

5. What are your favourite and least favourite things about blogging?
Favourite thing would be the community, chatting with people who have similar opinions to or even discussing with someone about why we have different opinions on a book. My least favourite thing is literally nothing. I am still only new, but I haven’t found anything I don’t enjoy about blogging

6. Tell me a teaser sentence from the book you’re currently reading!

“Because from the day I met her I’d known I wanted to be part of any world she belonged to. Did that make me crazy? Or was my heart too easily conquered?”

7. What device do you use to write your blog posts (computer, phone, etc.)?

Always computer

8.Tell me a little known fact about you that no other bloggers know.

I have always wanted a Husky, but my mother hated dogs and while I’m living with dad he won’t get a dog unless it’s a Chihuahua that he can take in his truck with him.

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world right this instant, where would you go, and why?

I would go to either the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort or to Warner Bros. Studios in London to take the The Making of Harry Potter Tour.

10. What song is stuck in your head right now? (if any)

Honestly, nothing. The last thing I was listening to was an Audiobook. So maybe that’s why.

11. I personally love the idea of giving a shoutout to 5 bloggers, so go ahead and spread the love like confetti!😊

I will do a shoutout to my 5 latest followers
